On this day, exactly 22 years ago (November 16, 1999), Dr. Dre released his second solo studio album, “2001,” featuring guest appearances from Eminem, The D.O.C., Hittman, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Xzibit and Nate Dogg. The album was produced mainly by Dr. Dre and Mel-Man.
The album debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 516,000 copies. It also entered at number one on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. “2001” is eligible for 8x platinum in the United States for selling more than 8 million copies in the country.
“2001” received positive reviews from critics. Its singles were also nominated for the Grammy awards. “Forgot About Dre,” featuring Eminem won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
