Pete Davidson had one final treat for Saturday Night Live viewers before ending his 7 season run: a rap tribute video to the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels.
The skit, which was apparently cut for time, begins with host Natasha Lyonne informing Davidson that Michaels is depressed because the two never got to make a rap video together.
Using Dr. Dre and Eminem’s hit song “Forgot the Dre,” David proceeds to honor Michaels’ legacy by ratting off his many accomplishments but suddenly, Davidson’s video is cut short when none other than Eminem appears to remind the comedian that this is the third time he has parodied one of his songs (see: “Stu” and “NFTs”). “Pete! What you doing man? Is it another parody? It’s another tribute or something? I would just stop. They all suck. Stop. Just please, stop. It’s really bad.”
Then Davidson attempts to explain he’s merely paying tribute to the rapper, Marshall Mathers shuts him down and warns: “Pete, don’t f**king do it again!”
It’s 2054, and Pete Davidson has to prove that he’s still got it.
It was a very strange night for Saturday Night Live. The big Christmas episode was set to induct Paul Rudd into the Five Timers Club but a reported COVID-19 outbreak among the cast forced the show to piece together an episode with only two of the current cast, Kenan Thompson and Michael Che.
Shot in black and white, “An Evening With Pete” imagines a sad, washed-up Pete Davidson 33 years in the future. Like a lounge singer working a dingy club decades past his prime, old Pete does a faux Weekend Update with a robot Colin Jost. A bored patron heckles him to “Do Chad!” his most well-known recurring character.
Pete does a Warren Beatty-themed parody of Eminem’s 1999 hit song “My Name Is,” from The Slim Shady LP album while cast member Chloe Fineman asks what exactly type of audience is this for.
Later in the sketch, Pete says he’d like to do a song with his friend, Machine Gun Kelly and brings out chalice with MGK’s dust in it and 1990-2054 written on it.
Saturday Night Live is not live tonight, but its a replay that’s very worthy of a re-watch. SNL is going back to its season premiere to re-air the episode hosted by Owen Wilson.
The audience was also thrilled for the return of Weekend Update, where Michael Che and Colin Jost talked about infrastructure, Joe Rogan, R. the Kelly verdict, Disney turning 50, masturbating chimps, Obama’s Presidential Library, unvaccinated NBA players, Billie Eilish, white paint and Eminem’s “Mom’s Spaghetti” restaurant in Detroit.
“During the opening day of Eminem’s new Detroit restaurant, the rapper surprised guests by serving them pasta himself. Not to be outdone, Macklemore got fired from Olive Garden.” jokes Colin Jost.
Comedian Pete Davidson has recently sat down with Seth Meyers on his Late Night Show where he revealed he phone-called Eminem after his SNL performances, impersonating Slim Shady.
“Those skits were written by the great Dan Bulla and Steven Castillo, great SNL writers, and Chris Redd. Eminem said a couple of nice things about me, and I, of course, heard them. I reached out and I was like ‘I would just like to say thank you’ and I just hit him up and said thanks, and he was like ‘yeah, man, you really did that. When I saw STU on the script, I was like, I do not know how it was going to go, but after you did that, it was fire.’ I was like, ‘Oh, thank you so much, you are the coolest,’ and then I just hung up as quickly as possible. That is all you need. You do not want anything more.”
Pete Davidson portraited Eminem in parodies of “Stan” which also had a cameo from Eminem, and “Without Me” featuring Jack Harlow.
Back in March 27, Saturday Night Live did the parody of Eminem’s 2002 hit song “Without Me,” not just in song, but the track’s popular video as well.
The sketch kicked off with Kate McKinnon portraying Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen, who was speaking to a group of economy students. After the professor (Kyle Mooney) asked if there were any questions for Yellen, familiar notes from Em’s tune off The Eminem Show start to play as the camera pans to Pete Davidson dressed as the rapper’s fake superhero Rap Boy from the “Without Me” video.
After stumping the professor, Chris Redd — dressed as Dr. Dre’s take on the Matrix‘s Morpheus — chimes in to offer pills and explain further. Confused by the “complete nonsense,” McKinnon’s turns to the janitor — played by musical guest Jack Harlow — for a more “eloquent” explanation of what, exactly, NFTs are.
Almost a month later, Eminem responded to the spoof with one emoji. Check out his tweet below:
The first Saturday Night Live of Spring featured the return of longtime cast member Maya Rudolph as host. She was joined by Kentucky rapper and songwriter Jack Harlow, who earned a GRAMMY nomination for “WHATS POPPIN’ in 2020 and recently released That’s What They All Say.
Harlow first appeared in the Digital Short “NFTs,” a take on Eminem’s “Without Me,” complete with Pete Davidson in a Robin costume similar to that of Eminem in the original video.
“Stan” was released almost two decades ago. And now the comedian Pete Davidson who is close friend of Machine Gun Kelly, parodied the song on “Saturday Night Live” by turning it into a twisted Christmas anthem, “Stu,” and Eminem himself makes the appearance.
With his hair bleached blond hair, Pete Davidson descended down some basement steps to write his letter to Santa Claus. Surrounded by lots of photos of jolly ole Saint Nick, he began, “Dear Santa, I can not believe the year is almost over, it is getting colder, I am a year older but I am still your soldier… the only thing keeping me alive, Dear Santa, please bring me a PS5.”
He continues: “I tried to buy one at Walmart, ran around the shop mall like Paul Blart, tried to find one for sale, but the thing is they are all out, yo, I even went to a Gamestop, but then I was like, ‘Oh wait stop,’ Santa Claus can make one, the man got his own workshop.”
Eminem’s “Stan” features a pop singer Dido singing the chorus, and Kate McKinnon took on that role in “Stu” video. Also Eminem and Sir Elton John famously performed the song the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards. Which is included in the “Stu” clip, as well.
“Stu is waiting for his surprise, to open up a PS5, he just really wants to play, “Assassin’s Creed” on Christmas Day, but he can not buy it himself because he lost his job because he was stealing from his boss, I would be worried, Stu is a scary guy / a scary guy,” McKinnon sang on chorus.
Yang’s verse went: “This year Christmas will be bad, cause Santa s**ks and Stu is sad. He already asked you really nicely and now he is really pissed off. I am just telling you cause I like you a lot. I am a big fan of Santa Claus and I also want a PS5, a PS5.”
The end of “Stu” video, Satna finally responds: “Dear Stu, I think you got the wrong address bro. I’m not Santa Claus, bye bye.”
Eminem made the appearance at the very end of the video, shown on the television screen in Pete Davidson’s basement. Eminem appeared in a holiday sweater, saying he received a PS5 even though he never asked for it: “I guess Shady must have been a good boy this year. Sorry Stu, you f**ed up.”
