Big Daddy Kane reacts to Eminem paying homage to him in LL Cool J’s “Murdergram Deux” video

“Murdergram Deux” marks LL Cool J and Eminem’s highly anticipated first collaboration and the fourth single from LL Cool J’s long-awaited upcoming album, The FORCE. With LL’s nostalgic bravado and Eminem’s signature speedy flow and subtle wordplay, the song sees the pair boasting about their raw “unapologetic” style and credibility in the rap game. The track – a sequel to LL’s original “Murdergram” – is produced by LL’s fellow Queens rap legend and former member of A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip, with additional production by Eminem. Tip also produced the entire new LL album.

LL Cool J and Eminem took fans back in time as they recreated some memorable moments for their “Murdergram Deux” music video, which was released on Wednesday (Sept. 11, 2024). LL and Em traveled to Detroit to pack on the nostalgia for the JakeTheShooter-directed clip. The New York legend steps back into 1987 to remake the Bigger and Deffer (BAD) album cover art nearly four decades later.

LL puts a modern twist on his “Going Back to Cali” visual while stepping into the black-and-white fishbowl scene with his signature bucket hat. But it’s Eminem who gets the emperor treatment as he pays homage to Big Daddy Kane ’s “Long Live the Kane” album cover. The pair also salutes Death Row’s legendary VIBE cover from 1996.

Big Daddy Kane responded to Eminem on Instagram post with the caption: “AYEEE!!! Thank you @eminem for the love. This new @llcoolj project is PHENOMENAL! All my drinkers, let’s talk about that Em line ‘Crack a bottle cause this is E&J, I’m talking Me & James.'” Rapper Grafh commented: “Crazy.” Tony Yayo and legendary Chuck D commented fire emojis. Big Daddy Kane answers question from Eminem

The legendary emcee, Big Daddy Kane and Noah Callahan-Bever sat down together in Brooklyn, NY in celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. The two discussed Kane’s iconic career, getting the only sample ever cleared by Prince, hitting the studio with Rick James in the ’80s, being left of the Batman soundtrack, and the many challenges he’s faced in his career and how he’s continued to persevere. He also asked questions from Eminem, Nas and Pusha T.

Interviewer: First question comes from Mr. Marshall Mathers, Eminem, who is curious — because you were doing it so early in your career when most rappers weren’t, how did you know or how did you learn how to do multi-syllable flow, like when you said: making sure every lyrics is done fine and make one line bright as sunshine?

Big Daddy Kane: Em asked me that question before. Yeah, he has asked me that before. I don’t know, I guess it’s the type of thing when you’re running out of rhymes, you figure out the ways to match words together to keep the rhyme going on. What I think Eminem originally asked me about was ‘Rap Prime Minister, some say sinisterNon-stopping the groove, until when it’s the…” He points out, Sinister, Minister, okay, but now what else rhymes with that? So, I just put ‘Non-stopping the groove’ until ‘when it’s the’, say fast enough ‘when it’s the’ and it rhymes with Sinister. I just run out words and you create your own, you know. In all honesty, when I did that, I never paid attention to that I was pushing the entire genre until Eminem mentioned it to me a couple of years ago, I never paid attention to it.

Back in 2021, Big Daddy Kane confirmed that he interviewed Eminem for his upcoming Netflix documentary, titled “Paragraphs I Manifest.” The release date of the docu-series is still unknown… You can watch the new interview below:

Big Daddy Kane talks about Eminem on Drink Champs, comments about Melle Mel & Eminem situation

Big Daddy Kane sits down with N.O.R.E and DJ EFN for an in-depth conversation on one of the latest episodes of Drink Champs. They discuss his origins getting put on by Biz Markie, his role in helping launch Biggie’s career, reminiscing on the Juice Crew days, and Kane’s new documentary ‘Paragraphs I Manifest’ focused on lyricism.

He also gives his thoughts on the current rap game, shares backstories behind many classic songs, talks beef with MC Shan, and reveals performing recently in Queensbridge with Kool G Rap. It’s an insightful interview highlighting Kane’s iconic career and impact on hip hop. At one point of the three hour long interview, Big Daddy Kane talked about Eminem too.

“When we heard ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and what N.W.A. was talking about, we got an experience of what the streets was like in LA. When Geto Boys came out, we had a chance to experience what the streets was like in Houston. Even with Eminem, because not only is that Detroit hood but it’s not our hood. He talking trailer park s–t. So, you get to hear about the white hood. Eminem gave us what it was like in his hood growing up. So, the way the ghetto expression can be it’s beautiful. It’s out there in all types of different regions. It just don’t have to end at the Yankee Stadium. Those up in Atlanta. Those up in Detroit. Those up in LA.” said Big Daddy Kane.

Then he continued talking about Eminem’s part in his documentary called “Paragraphs I Manifest“: “Em showed love when we reached out. He said yeah. He showed love and the crazy story is, he told me stuff about myself that I never even thought about. I mean, you as an MC, you writing but you are not sitting there thinking ‘I gotta add something that does this,’ you just writing what comes in mind. That’s what I’m doing. And he pointed out stuff that I did and I’m sitting there listening him talk and the whole time I’m looking at him but in my mind I’m like ‘for real? I did that? Oh s–t.!’ Now I’m sitting there and when I’m finished I had to go back and listen to the records from mid eighties, early eighties like ‘there had to be someone that did it before me.’ Like damn! I never thought about that. He said some deep stuff man.”

Then the crew continued talking about Melle Mel and Eminem situation: “That’s just Mel. The bottom line is that, rather he’s right or wrong, I feel like myself, you, Eminem and so many others would not be here or would not be gifted at this if it was not for Mel.”

Big Daddy Kane recalls first time hearing Eminem

Big Daddy Kane talked about Eminem and first hearing Slim Shady during an interview with HipHopDX’s Jeremy Hecht at the 2023 BET Awards red carpet.

Interviewer: I know you got the documentary coming and it seems like you really going deep into not only the history that you’ve impacted but the history of hip-hop as a whole. Is there something that surprised you or that you learned from doing those interviews?

Big Daddy Kane: Yeah. The interview with Eminem was very very intense. He mentioned some things that I guess I never really paid attention to or even thought about. I had to really sit and say ‘you sure that I’m the first person who did that?! Hold on, let me double check.’ He mentioned some things that I never really thought about it or I even paid attention to.

Interviewer: When you first heard Eminem, do you remember where you were?

Big Daddy Kane: Honestly, the first time I heard Eminem was Slim Shady. Somebody else played something that he was on before and let me hear. I was like ‘yo, he is nice! he’s nice and he’s funny.’ And then when I heard him get real super lyrical, I was like ‘oh, nah, this dude is a problem. he’s dope.’

Interviewer: Did it take a while to get that interview? You know, he does not come out of his house very often.

Big Daddy Kane: Nah, I mean, actually, we reached out and we got word back probably a week or two.

Big Daddy Kane has finalized a forthcoming Netflix documentary titled Paragraphs I Manifest. As the title suggests, the film focuses on the art of emceeing and feature several high-profile interviews with some of the most prolific rappers in Hip Hop, including Eminem, Jay-Z, J. Cole, Common and others.

Big Daddy Kane reveals few things Eminem talks about in his upcoming Netflix documentary

In a recent interview with AllHipHop magazine, Big Daddy Kane provided an update on his forthcoming Netflix documentary, titled Paragraphs I Manifest, which boasts several high-profile interviews with everyone from Eminem and Jay-Z to J. Cole and Common.

“We’re in the editing stages right now. And hopefully, we’ll be finished within the next two months. That’s what I’m praying for, you know, because I really feel that it’s important to get this out as Hip-Hop is celebrating 50 years.” says Big Daddy Kane.

Then he continues: “The most rewarding part of this experience is hearing different artists’ perspectives. To sit with someone like Common, who I respect as a great lyricist and is someone with a unique flow other than the norm and representing a city other than New York, to hear his influences and his thought process, things of that nature. To hear Eminem talk about losing a rap battle. To hear him talking about what motivated him to write a song, who he listened to and studied, stuff like that.”

“The biggest thing I learned was something Eminem said, because I never really thought about it. When I am writing and I am doing what I do, I am just in my zone. I am listening to him talk, but as I am listening to him, I am trying to think who did it before me, and I actually could not come up with no one. I was just sitting there really blown away.”

“When we left, I actually went listening to different artists that had songs out before me to see if anyone else did that in their writing style, and I did not find no one. I am not saying that I am the first,  am just saying that so far I have not found anyone. It was crazy.” Big Daddy Kane added.

We did the interview just recently. He was talking to me about my rhymes and I was sitting there like ‘Okay, okay, I get it now.’ Em is a beautiful brother man because, I mean, nothing goes over his head. He is a student of the game that studies it like a scientist. He studies it thoroughly. It was a good conversation we had. He is real deep into hip hop.”

The two hip-hop legends met for an interview which Kane is planning to release soon. But what if they did a song together too? One of the most influential rapper has just announced the new mixtape “The Light Up” which is dropping soon. What are chances that Eminem is on it?
