Mad Skillz Shuts Down Ray Daniels’ Take on Eminem

Music executive Ray Daniels sparked a fresh debate during a recent interview on Drink Champs, offering a controversial take on Eminem’s place in rap history. While acknowledging Slim Shady’s undeniable talent, Daniels argued that the Detroit icon shouldn’t be ranked alongside traditional hip-hop greats.

“Eminem is top 5 rappers of all time but I don’t put him in hip-hop list cause he does not play by the same rules that everybody else does,” Daniels stated. He went on to suggest that Eminem’s astronomical commercial success stemmed from privilege rather than standard industry blueprint: “Everybody had to make club records to be a top rapper. Eminem made a record dissing his mom and sold more records than anybody, only because he’s white.”

The take didn’t sit well with everyone at the table. Veteran rapper Mad Skillz immediately pushed back on the logic, shutting down the premise with a blunt response: “I don’t respect your list. White boy can rap. Yes he was white and you can say whatever you want but at any given time, of you were from hip-hop, any given record, you heard that white boy and you went: ‘Damn! he killed that s–t!'”

Attributing Eminem’s legendary run solely to demographic advantages ignores the unmatched pen game, intricate cadences, and raw storytelling that built his empire. Skin color might open doors, but it certainly didn’t write those iconic bars.
