Snoop Dogg has unveiled the official music video for his latest single, “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” coinciding with the 4/20 celebrations. This track is a reinterpretation of Tom Petty’s 1993 classic “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” featuring posthumous vocals from Petty himself, alongside contributions from Jelly Roll and production by Dr. Dre.
Directed by Dave Meyers, the video presents a surreal blend of live-action and animation, crafted by animator Temple Caché. It showcases Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Jelly Roll, interwoven with animated depictions of iconic figures such as Tupac, Bob Marley, Redman, Method Man, B-Real, and Wiz Khalifa. The visual narrative delves into Snoop’s lifelong connection with cannabis, offering a psychedelic journey through his past and imagined future.
“Last Dance With Mary Jane” is featured on Snoop Dogg’s 2024 album Missionary, marking his twentieth studio release. The album signifies a reunion with Dr. Dre and includes collaborations with artists like Eminem, 50 Cent, Sting, Method Man, and Jhené Aiko among others.
Jelly Roll’s contribution adds a poignant layer to the track. As a recovering addict, he reimagines “Mary Jane” not as a reference to marijuana, but as a metaphor for a woman who left him heartbroken, singing, “Mary Jane is not a plant I smoke, but a woman who broke my heart.”
