D12 Release “My Salsa” Music Video Featuring Eminem Impersonator

More than two decades after their previous album, D12 have proven that they still have their signature sound, their edge, and, perhaps most importantly, their sense of humor.

The moment Kuniva and Swifty McVay announced that a new D12 album was on the way, fans began searching for clues about whether Eminem might appear on the project. Despite Eminem seemingly closing the door on the group with his 2018 track “Stepping Stone”, the possibility remained in the minds of fans. Then came the tracklist — and the inclusion of “My Salsa” only fueled those hopes.

After all, Eminem had famously teased the song at the end of “My Band”, saying: “Look out for my next single, it’s called ‘My Salsa’”. But it never happened.

When the D12 Forever release date finally arrived, the group delivered a solid and energetic album packed with new material, nostalgic touches, and the familiar attitude that made D12 stand out in the first place. They managed to make the comeback work without Proof, whose death is openly addressed and mourned across several of the new songs, and without Eminem, whose name is notably absent from the lyrics.

In the music video for “My Salsa”, which the group transformed into a nearly seven-minute satire of the music industry, D12 played directly into years of fan expectations by casting Michael Mathers, one of the most recognizable Eminem tribute acts. His appearance becomes the centrepiece of a series of deliberately ridiculous gags. The scene begins with Swifty looking at his hand in disgust after shaking Michael’s hand. “Your palms are sweaty” he said. On which Michael replied: “I know, man. I woke up, my knees were weak, too. I don’t know what’s going on, man,” referencing Eminem’s iconic “Lose Yourself” song.

Things escalate when Michael attempts to squeeze his own verse onto the track. Kuniva immediately rejects the idea, eventually ordering security to remove him from the studio. The joke works precisely because D12 knew what fans were expecting. Rather than ignoring the endless speculation surrounding Eminem and “My Salsa”, they turned that expectation into part of the entertainment. You can watch the music video below:
