New Song: GRIP – “Spatula”

GRIP unleashes short but bar-heavy, hype-up new track titled “Spatula,” produced by Wili Hendrixs.

This is the first official release from GRIP after dropping 17-track Shady Records debut project I Died For This??, back in August, which featured guest appearances from Eminem, Kay Nellz, Kenny Mason, AHYES, Big Rube, Tate 228, Dead Casssettes, Wara, Royce Da 5’9”, and Wiley from Atlanta.

Some of the quotable lyrics from the new track includes: “Got leeches all on my dick, got b***hes all on my line / Hoppin’ in my DMs, really divin’ out the deep end / Tryna see if we can be friends, well, that depends / Gotta pretend only for the weekend / And don’t keep tabs on the cash he spend / Smash on the dash while your a*s leave him / I know you gotta get laid, but I gotta get paid / I got too many rats on my calendar.”

Westside Boogie confirms new album is done, talks Kendrick Lamar comparisons & more

Shady Records’ Westside Boogie has recently set down with HotNewHipHop for an exclusive interview where the Compton rapper revealed that his long-awaited new album, the follow-up of “Everythings For Sale” is around the corner.

Boogie also talked about plans for collaboration album with Smino, why signing to Eminem was the right choice, relationship with GRIP and much more. You can check out the interview below!

On his new album

I think Everythings For Sale was so good, I just want to make sure…Yeah, I’m a perfectionist. I know everybody like, over-uses that word, but I really am a perfectionist. And I won’t put it out unless I believe in it all the way, now I’m finally at a space to where I’m really focused on figuring out paperwork and stuff out now, so now I’m just trolling people at this point. But yeah album done, I’m ready to drop this one and drop another one. I’m just grateful that my fans still waited this long, cause I’d be pissed.

“New album is dropping in the first quarter of 2022” – Westside Boogie

On GRIP, Dreamville, TDE and comparison with Kendrick Lamar

When I saw GRIP signed to Shady, I reached out. Well, he might have reached out first on Instagram. But then I told him, hit me when he was in LA, I just want to make sure we connect, ‘cause Shady Records you know what I’m saying, we’ve got TDE and Dreamvilles running around like they the biggest gangs in America.

I’m cool when they put me in a box with them like, okay, the three, my three favorite rappers, but it’s when they start comparing me to Kendrick. That’s the one, like that’s my favorite rapper too, but it’s also, I’m competitive. So it’s like I think it’d be… sometimes I know the story is similar, we both from Compton, both rap good, but it’s like oh it’s like the same thing and it’s just like lazy listeners…

On Eminem

“I think it was Paul Rosenberg who heard my music first. He just played stuff for Eminem, and what was dope about first meeting Eminem is he didn’t know like, I mean, he knew ‘em, but he wasn’t talking to me about my bigger songs, he was talking to me about the album cuts and the ins and outs of flows that I didn’t think he would know. And that’s what made me trust him because I knew he coming to me because he really f*ck with my music.

On joint album with Smino

Me and Smino have been talking about this project for probably a year. It’s just timing and getting into a studio. We got some records together. Smino’s on my album, I probably shouldn’t say that, but that’s my boy.

WATCH: Grip’s cypher at 2021 BET Hip-Hop Awards

GRIP, D Smoke, Tierra Whack and Smino stole the show during the Lyricism Cypher at the 2021 BET Hip-Hop Awards. While there were some notable performances and wins throughout the show, one of the most memorable moments arose when our boy Grip showed up for cypher!

Grip kicked his verse with venomous lines: “I’m here to slap your favorite rapper” over DJ Khaled’s “Every Chance I Get” beat, featuring Lil Baby and Lil Durk. Then he gives a nod to his rejecters: “Shoutout to the ones who rejected me/ kiss my a** respectfully/there’s yet to be/a threat… it’s a murder scene, y’all.”

Unfortunately, BET has limited viewability of the cypher at this moment, making it difficult to watch the entire video but GRIP as shared his own verse to his fans and received big co-sign from Sirius XM channel Rock The Bells Radio.

“We on TV mama! How I do?! Shout out BET for the opportunity” said the East Atlanta lyricist while sharing his portion of the video.

Grip freestyles on Bootleg Kev, talks how Eminem found his music, signing to Shady & more

Shady Records latest signee, GRIP has recently sat down with Bootleg Kev for an interview on his podcast where the two talk about how Eminem found his music, signing to Shady Records, Atlanta music and more.

On signing to Shady Records

“Eminem is like a coach who used to play basketball in NBA. I felt that. Before we even get to any paperwork or anything, he was just like ‘Yo, I don’t wanna change nothing, everything you do is great, creative control.'”

About getting Eminem & Royce 5’9″ on “IDFT!?”

“I chose the record which I wanted Eminem to be on. I played it before I told him and he was like ‘Damn, this hook is dope as f**k.’ I was like ‘that’s all I wanted to hear.’ With Royce, I already had the song constructed, like, the first half and second half and he just took the whole middle portion and killed that s**t which is what I was expecting him to do but then with Em s**t, I spent 16 bars. I was trying to be lyrical and do my own thing so when I sent it him and he sent back I already knew he was coming at least 36 bars. He went in. He went the f**k off. I don’t change s**t. I don’t change nothing.”

About his album “Snubnose” getting Eminem’s attention

“Em said he heard ‘Snubnose’ and the song ‘226’ caught his attention. I kinda rapping fast, switching cadences. For a long time, I was kinda upset cause it was great body of work and it fell under radar so for a long time I was frustrated. And its dope at least Em caught that s**t. It catapulted me to the next level. ”

GRIP also shows us why Eminem f**ks with him as the East Atlanta rapper spits some bars in an unforgettable freestyle.

GRIP releases “Mama Told Me!” music video

GRIP delivers the music video for “Momma Told Me!”, directed by Caleb Seales, a lyrically-driven single from his Shady Records debut album “I Died For This?!”

The video was exclusively premiered via HotNewHipHop: A standout track on his brand new album I Died For This?!, the track is an effective showcase of the Atlanta lyricist’s technical prowess, not to mention his clever mind for wordplay and references.

It’s no surprise he opted to choose this one as the project’s next single as it was one of the fans’ most favorite songs.

Grip talks about his new album, shares best advice from Eminem

GRIP has recently talked with Mike Boyd where the two discussed his new album ‘I Died For This!?’, advice from Eminem, and Grip’s proudest moment.

East Atlanta rapper goes on to talked about his personal self-growth and what it took to get to where he is now. He also revealed some of his favorite lines from the project.

Shady Records latest signee even talked about bending genres and why he decided to put a rock-influenced song on the album.

As far as the best advice he received from Eminem, Grip said: “He said, when he started out in this s**t he was kinda of worried if he had the “it” factor and he told me, don’t worry, it will come to you. The story abut him and Royce being drunk as f**k back in the days and he wakes up and his hair is blonde as f**k and it became a thing. And to see how iconic he is today and me being a kid it was like ‘this s**t crazy!’. Hearing backstory from the man himself. So the best advice I got was to not force s**t and to be yourself. You will be cool, you will be good.

New Song: Grip – “Walkthrough!” ft. Eminem

Grip has just released his Shady Records debut album “I Died For This!?” and a song “Walkthrough!” featuring Eminem came with it, produced by Eminem and MTK.

As fans expected, the song is bar-heavy, demonstration of technical skill, already regarded as the best Eminem verse since “Lord Above” by Fat Joe.

In the song, Eminem gives same kind of advice to GRIP as he gave Drake on a song “Zeus.” The Detroit legend raps: “GRIP, hold on to this moment / ‘Cause soon as you reach the top, they gon’ want you to fall from it / So you better grab your seatbelt / Like I did mine, and fasten yours / Like a motherf***ing plane-crash passenger / ‘Cause one day you’ll be crashing back to earth
And if you don’t ever stop to smell the roses / I do know one thing, that’s for sure / You don’t get your flowers ’til you pushin’ up daisies / And that’s about all your ashes earn.”

Eminem gives high praise to Grip, reveals which project caught his attention

In a new interview with Complex, Eminem talked about his latest Shady Records signee, GRIP.

“We all got excited about GRIP after we heard Snubnose. It was really refreshing to hear a new artist so focused on making a conceptual project and it caught my attention.”

“It’s definitely great when artists we sign connect with a larger audience, and 50 Cent is a perfect example of that. Obviously we want anyone who signs with Shady to succeed. But first and foremost we’ve always focused on the raw talent and ability of the artist as an MC. We’ve always been pretty clear on that being the main thing we look for: high level fundamental skills and mechanics are definitely the priority.”

“It’s really important in a creative collaboration for there to be that personal connection for it to succeed. Shady is a boutique label and we don’t sign a lot of artists, so we have a chance to get involved at a deeper level with the ones we do. And I think that goes both ways. I like to be motivated by the artists we sign and I want to feel pushed by their creativity as well.”

“The people we sign have a point of view and vibe that made us want to work with them in the first place. Part of our job is to help them get out to a bigger audience but also I don’t like to insert myself where I’m not needed. I am looking to find where and how I can get involved that adds to or builds on what the artist is already doing.” says Eminem.
