Drake surpasses Eminem to become most selling artist for singles

Image: Drake & Eminem

Earlier this year The Recording Industry Association of America crowned Eminem a Diamond King as he became the number-one awarded musician for singles in the RIAA’s Gold & Platinum certifications history, for selling 166 million singles in the United States.

“These awards recognize Eminem’s unflinching commitment to his craft and the enduring connection he has forged with fans over the last twenty years. With today’s announcement, Eminem becomes the top certified singles artist in our program’s history and adds a rare third Diamond Album to his many creative accomplishments. Congratulations to Eminem and his entire label team who have set the bar higher than ever!” said RIAA Chairman/CEO Mitch Glazier in a press-released statement.

Today, it was announced that Drake surpassed Eminem’s single sales and the Canadian rapper is now highest certified singles artist in RIAA history with 184 million units sold as a lead artist. Eminem still remains the number one best selling album rapper of all time with 61.5 million album certifications.

Eminem predicted Drake ‘s future couple of years ago, here is how!

Couple of years ago, Drake dropped a surprise album titled “Honestly, Nevermind,” with a lone feature from 21 Savage.

Drizzy made something entirely for himself, instead of catering to each faction of his massive fanbase. Rather than attempt to make all of his hip-hop fans happy, he made a dance album for dimly lit clubs and dizzying lazer-light raves. He finally strayed from the formula, and focused on a singular new sound instead of trying to appeal to everyone at once.

Even though the album received, generally positive review from critics, fans were not feeling it. “Honestly, Nevermind,” holds one of the lowest score from users of Metacritics. Drake even responded to people who call the album trash on Instagram, saying: “It’s all good if you don’t get it yet. That’s what we do. We wait for you to catch up. We’re already here though, we caught up already. On to the next.”

Last week, Kendrick Lamar has taken aim at rap rivals Drake and J. Cole on a new track, claiming that rather than representing the genre’s “big three” it’s just “big me”. The song, “Like That”, appears on Future and Metro Boomin’s new collaborative album We Don’t Trust You. Lamar is one of several stars to make a guest appearance on the record, along with The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, and Rick Ross. Future also took some shots at Drake in the album. Following the events, Nav, Kanye West, Rick Ross, Future and Metro Boomin have all unfollowed Drake on Instagram.

Back in 2020, on a song titled “Zeus,” from Music To Be Murdered By Deluxe Edition, Eminem predicted what Drake is facing right now. In the song, Em raps: “I’ve had a great view to see the (See the) game through (Through) / And Drake, they’re gonna turn on you (You) one day too (Too) / And the more you win, the sooner (Sooner) they do / They’ll be calling you a trash bin / Sayin’ that your new one isn’t better than your last and / Even if it is, once they start to turn their backs / They ain’t never comin’ back in / They did it to Chance / Next they’ll be mentionin’ Future in the past tense (Yeah) / Or sayin’ “Adiós” to Migos / I ain’t dissin’, I’m just tryna keep the shit a C-note.

This is exactly what’s happening to Drake right now, what happened to Migos and what might happen to Future in future too. You can bump the song below:

Akademiks laughs at Adin Ross saying ‘Eminem is GOAT,’ says Drake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne & Future would wash Eminem in Verzuz

If there is a person who is going to go hard for Eminem, it’s DJ Akademiks.

Jamaica-born DJ and media personality has been throwing shades at Detroit legend for a minute now. He even got Eminem’s attention back in 2018 when Akademiks called “Revival” album trash and the Rap God dropped “Kamikaze” album.

On a track titled “Fall,” Eminem raps: “Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it / Or have his body bag get zipped / The closest thing he’s had to hits is smackin’ bitches (Pump it up!) And don’t make me have to give it back to Akademiks / Say this shit is trash again, I’ll have you twisted / Like you had it when you thought you had me slippin’ at the telly (Yeah) / Even when I’m gettin’ brain, you’ll never catch me with a thot.”

Yesterday, Akademiks was streaming with Adin Ross when the DJ once again discredited Eminem’s place in hip-hop when Adin declared Em as the greatest rapper of all time.

“Eminem versus Drake or Lil Wayne? Are you kidding me ni**a? Adin you f**kin stupid ni**a? Kanye West will also wash that ni**a. What you gonna play? Lose Yourself ni**a? Or Till I Collapse? Get the hell outta here! Kanye is stepping on Eminem, Drake is stepping on Eminem, Lil Wayne is stepping on Eminem. Future not washing Eminem?!?!” said Akademiks.

Foolio includes Eminem in his list of top 5 rappers alive

Florida rapper Foolio, who was shot hundred times and survived with minor injuries couple of months ago, has recently chopped it up with DJ Akademiks on Off The Record podcast, where the young rapper named his list of top five rappers alive.

Right now? I will say Polo G, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Drake…I was supposed to say Drake first. Hell yeah, I f**k with Drake. And Eminem. I f**k with Eminem.” said Foolio, who is referred as one of the most disrespectful rappers today in hip hop because of his notorious beefs with Kodak Black and NBA Youngboy.

Elsewhere in the interview, Jacksonville rapper talked about some of the trauma in his life coming up while trying to rap. He talks about how he was shot while getting off the bus because he was beefing with someone else who was killed the same day.

T.I. says he wants a song with Eminem & Jay-Z to prove he’s lyrically on their level

T.I. has recently done a livestream on Instagram where he responded to the people who discredit his rapping abilities.

“Put us in godd**n booth together. Put us in a studio together to make a song. Let’s see who got hard time telling who godd**n came out on top. I guarantee you motherf**kers. I don’t give a f**k who it is man. Eminem, Jay-Z, Drake, the bests in the business. Put us in the same song! Put us in a studio doing the same song at the same motherf**kin’ time and just watch what will happen. Just watch. That’s all I’m saying and that’s undeniable.” said TIP.

“It kinda perturbs me when motherf**kers put me in a class or category that I just don’t belong. Commercially they doing well and making good money but when it comes to bars and rapping and s**t…C’MON MAN! Cut the nonsense!” he added.

T.I. and Eminem have previously collaborated in two occasion. “Touch Down” from T.I.’s 2007 album T.I. Vs. T.I.P., and “That’s All She Wrote,” from T.I.’s 2010 album No Mercy.
