Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine to open ‘the coolest high school’ in L.A.

Image Credit: (Christina House / Los Angeles Times)

Rap icon Dr. Dre and music industry mogul Jimmy Iovine hated school which made them to force to create a new public high school project in Los Angeles.

“I want to reach the inner-city kid, the younger me. Here’s a place that you can go where there’s something that you can learn that you’re really interested in.” said Dr. Dre

“This is for kids who want to go out and start their own company or go work at a place… like Marvel, or Apple or companies like that.” – added Jimmy Iovine

Dr. Dre continues: “That guy that didn’t have an opportunity, that had to scratch and figure out things on his own. That had the curiosity but didn’t have these type of opportunities, really smart kids — we want to touch and give them this open door and these opportunities to be able to show what they can do.”

“No kid wants to go to school. Because it’s boring. You keep flipping the same thing over and over and over again, year after year, with the same curriculum, the same teachers. This is something new and different that might excite the kids and make them want to go to school.”

“I had no idea this is where my life and career was gonna go, and everything that I’ve been doing throughout my career… was gonna lead to this, all those things a stepping stone to get here. Is this what it’s supposed to be? The, you know, the Big Bang? Hopefully it is.”

“This is how you spend money and feel good about it. And that feeling lasts, and most importantly it makes others feel good! Proud to know these gentlemen.” said Eminem’s manager, Paul Rosenberg.

Dr. Dre also talked about his health conditions and more. You can visit LA Times for the full interview here.

50 Cent calls Lloyd Banks ‘lazy’ in his book, Banks responds on a new song “Stranger Things”

Last week, Lloyd Banks dropped his first proper studio album in over a decade, titled The Course of the Inevitable.

In 50 Cent’s book Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter, Fiddy writes: “I always felt that if I had maybe done a better job teaching Banks and Yayo how to evolve and change their habits, they each would be in better places right now. While I was out hustling, Banks was more content staying on his porch and watching the world from there.”

“Banks wanted things to come to him, as opposed to going out and getting them for himself. That’s not me trying to assassinate his character—the guy has ‘Lazy Lloyd’ tattooed on his arm. He literally wears his laziness on his sleeve.”

On a song titled “Stranger Things,” from new album, Banks responds to Fifty: “When you’re f**ked up, behavior turns irregular quick, sometimes the pressure overwhelms when you’re the head of the clique/But don’t get ahead of yourself, I ain’t bending for s**t/Nobody sees your vision until you’re successful.”

He continues, “Your favorite’s nowhere near me when I’m dedicated/Always humble, usually disciplined and never hated/Call me quiet, call me lazy, talent never faded/It’s frustrating when your grindin’ ain’t appreciated/Should have been dead in my twenties, s**t, at least I made it/Guess I gotta prove myself again, increase your payment.”

Wendy explains how she got signed Eminem to Aftermath: “Nobody wanted to sign him”

Wendy Day, is a legendary mentor and consultant for hip-hop artists, who was the advisor and mentor of Tupac Shakur and Chuck D of Public Enemy. She organized the 1997 Rap Olympics, where Eminem was invited by her via his demo tape Infinite to perform which gained him an Interscope Records deal. Wendy detailed that process in a recent interview with B High Atl.

“After Twista, Eminem was on my radar. His bars were crazy. I knew he was gonna be big but I didn’t know he was gonna be as big as Eminem got. Nobody knew. When I was shopping his deal, the reason I did Rap Olympics is I could not find a label who would sign a white boy who could rap. The just kept playing him to the left. The real funny thing is when I first started shopping his deal, I burned CDs in my home of his demo (meaning writing songs on the CD) and I dropped off packages to every label. Something that went wrong while burning CDs was that I burned blank CDs. All of his demo CDs were blank. I did not know that.”

“I took them to every label and only one label called me. Which means, only one label listened to that CD and it was Rich Isaacson’s Loud Records. He called me and said: ‘Yo, did you mean this CD to be blank?’ It was so embarrassing. I hat to burn new CDs and take them back to everybody but they all passed. Because at that point of time Milli Vanilli just been stripped off their Grammys and Vanilla Ice was not doing as great as people wanted him to in black community and for white rappers it was very hard and labels were like ‘no, we do not want to be the one.'”

“We tried getting him write up in The Source but that didn’t help. We did Unsigned Hype, that didn’t help. At that time, music was going from being lyrical on the underground like backpack type rap to Gangster and mainstream. More like bad boy type rap. So I decided to do an event called ‘Rap Olympics’ to bring attention and press to real lyrical guys to show the world that they are still there and to showcase Eminem cause he is lyrical and it worked. It got him signed to Dre, to Interscope, to Aftermath.” said Day.
