Ahead of his 2021 “Best Rap Album” Grammy nomination for “The Allegory,” Royce Da 5’9 has partnered with Yoop and L.A. LIVE’s Microsoft Theater for his first live performance since COVID-19 hit. His one hour performance included some of his greatest hits from his career, including Bad Meets Evil’s “Fast Lane” and “Lighters.”
During the breaks, Royce had cameos from his Slaughterhouse brothers: Kxng Crooked, Joell Ortiz and Joe Budden and his pair from PRhyme, legendary DJ Premier.
Today the Grammys ceremony begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time, 5 p.m. Pacific. Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, BTS, Harry Styles, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion but for us, the most important part of the show comes in when they announce Best Rap Album winner, where our man Royce Da 5’9″ is up against some hip-hop heavyweights in the game: Nas, Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist, Jay electronica and D Smoke.
We have collected some of the predictions from popular magazines below and NAS’s “King’s Disease” will most likely be a winner but who knows, Royce might grab it unexpectedly.

During a recent interview with Marisa Mendez on HipHopDX, Royce Da 5’9″ was surprisingly joined by Joell Ortiz where the two proceeded to stroll down memory lane, reflecting on their Slaughterhouse, reuniting on Eminem’s “I Will” for Music To Be Murdered By album, and sharing a few thoughts on the Griselda movement:
“Griselda did not necessarily get more mainstream attention than we did. We actually released an album. It was two totally different journeys. I do understand the comparison.” said Royce and Joell added: “They anti-establishment, like we are.”
Then the two talk about “I Will” song: “That song was a joint we did a long time ago. Em just went back through it, cause he does that sometimes. Especially if we go to his studio to record it, nobody will take a copy of it. It’ll be something that exists in his world. When he called me and told me that he wanted to use it, I was like f**k, I know he ain’t gonna let me change my verse. But then I heard my verse and thought, okay, that’s cool.” said Royce.
“I thought the exact same thing Royce. I hadn’t heard it in years. It definitely held up.” added Joell Ortiz
HipHopDX has recently caught up with Royce Da 5’9″ and his father for an interview, where the two hilariously recall the time Dr. Dre called in their house, only to be mistaken for a licensed medical professional.
“I remember when I told him, ‘You’ve got a phone call,'” I asked him what was wrong with him. He’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ I said, ‘You’ve got a phone call from your doctor.’ He said, ‘The doctor?’ I said, ‘Yeah, somebody named Dr. Dre.’”
“By the time he got out the shower, I heard all the slipping and sliding and falling into the toilet and on the floor trying to get to the phone. I didn’t know who Dr. Dre was and once I’d found out who Dr. Dre was I was like, okay well my son is onto something. Somebody recognizes him for what he is because, at that point, I wasn’t quite sure.” said Greg.
Then Royce continues: “I caught his voice immediately. He was like ‘I like your s**t man, Marshall played me your s**t, man. I wanted to see if you wanted to come out here and rock with us. We working on some stuff.’ I was just writing stuff. As much as I could. I was just excited to be in the environment. I thought he was a genius, that everything he did was classic. I walked in a Stan.”
Royce 5’9″ drops the lyric video of “Hero,” featuring White Gold, produced by Royce from Grammy-nominated album, The Allegory. “Hero” is a follow up song to “Cocaine” track off of his 2018 album Book of Ryan. In an interview with TMZ, among other things, Royce expressed concern with airing out his father as an addict on the song Cocaine. In this song, he tells us that people are not perfect.
Back in 2020, Royce Da 5’9” unleashed one of the best hip hop albums of the year, Grammy-nominated and self-produced effort titled The Allegory. The project features guest appearances from Vince Staples, G Perico, T.I., Cyhi The Prynce, Benny The Butcher, Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, Sy Ari Da Kid, Oswin Bejamin, Ashley Sorrell, DJ Premier, KXNG Crooked and more.
Yesterday, the Detroit’s finest dropped off a new visuals from that project for the track titled “I Don’t Age,” a standout cut that acts as a reminder for those who need a reminder of Royce’s lyrical abilities:
“Dollar short from acquirin’ no change, started out with no shame, to ridin’ ‘round in Mulsanne, tolerance high, feel no pain, cotton mouth with thots who got the code names, I remember nodding’ out, too high, just watchin’ ‘Soul Train,’ now I’m yachtin’ out the boat brain, hunnid thousand dollar gold chain/” – raps Royce.
Kxng Crooked also makes the cameo in the music video. You can watch the clip below:
In a recent interview with Queenzflip, Benzino challenged Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ for a fight on a boxing ring.
“I would step on the ring with any of these ni**as. I’m in a great shape and I would love to. I’ve started training boxing. I would like to step in on the ring with Royce or Eminem. We could do it like men. We got gloves on. We can f**king shake hands and this will be over. There’s a lot of built up animosity so why not go in the ring and put some gloves on like men. We can get money and put it in some charity for kids who needs help. After that it will be over. Lt’s get in there, punch each other, shake hands hag it out, after that we smoke blunt, drink some tea, have a coke and a smile and then life goes on.”
“If me and Eminem got in the room and Em just heard why I did what I did maybe he would understand. Even when Mike Tyson interviewed Eminem, Mike never brought it [Foolish Pride track] up, nobody ever brings it up. Nobody brings up anything about him and what he did and no matter what we do a blogger or podcaster can’t wait to bring up our s**t. He’s so protected. I’ve never seen nobody more protected. I would fight them both. One Weekend Royce and the next weekend Eminem. Em got trained by famous coach in Detroit. I’m sure he got skills, who knows I might get knocked out.”
While speaking to Ebro Darden on Apple Music’s Beats 1, Royce Da 5’9″ tried to explain what is systematic racism to Lil Wayne.
“Lil Wayne, I heard come out of his mouth in an interview that racism does not exist. Being famous early for a Black person is crippling. My brother, you are going to jail for the second time. The first time you went to prison, you went for a gun that was not even on you. That is racism, Lil Wayne.” said Royce.
Watch the interview below:
Back in 2016, Lil Wayne sat down with ABC’s “Nightline” where he talked about Black Lives Matter movement.
“I do not know that you put a name on it. It is not a name, it is not ‘whatever, whatever,’ it is somebody got shot by a policeman for a f**ked up reason. I am a young, black, rich motherf**ker. If that do not let you know that America understand. I do not feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothing to do with me. I am connected to this flag. I am a gangbanger ma’am.” said Weezy.
In a recent conversation on ClubHouse, Royce Da 5’9″ explained to Lupe Fiasco why he responded to Benzino.
“Royce, you know you my man but sometimes you gotta let Eminem fight that s**t. F**k this ni**as man. Just don’t pay them ni**as no mind. F**k their feelings.” said Lupe Fiasco
“I came to that realization long time ago Lupe. I was not arguing with Bezino cause I was defending Eminem. I was arguing with him cause he called me a b**ch.” Royce responded.
In a conversation on ClubHouse, which included Royce Da 5’9,” Page Kennedy, Just Blaze, Van Lathan, Punch, King Los, Glasses Malone and Dave Mays (Benzino’s friend and the founder of The Source Magazine) Royce got into a heated argument with Mouse (Diddy affiliate) and Dave Mayes for disrespecting comments about Eminem.
At some point Royce lost his patience with The Source creator:
“Man, you f**k with Benzino! You don’t f**k with authenticity. I’ma kick your a** to the crowd. You f**k with cornballs.. Enough of Dave Mays. F**k out of here, muthaf**ker. F**k he talking to, I’ll put death on your doorstep. I’m not divided, I’m not one with Dave Mays. Let’s get this s**t straight. Ya’ll n***as in here acting like this ni**a at the cookout.”
Watch the full thing below and try not to go hard on Mays and Mouse:
On the Clubhouse meeting, Joe Budden, Royce Da 5’9″, N.O.R.E, Daz and more set down to talk about why Eminem and Snoop Dogg beef is bad for the culture.
Akino: I got a question for Daz and NORE, we know Eminem and Snoop Dogg beef is bad for the culture, but style-wise, what do you think about that type of battle? Would you be interested Snoop versus Em?
NORE: Hell no! The history is too deep man. Motherf**ers are grown men. We don’t need a rap battle at this point. Hell no. I just don’t wanna see Eminem and f**king Snoop Dogg cause of their relationship. That’s like step-children fighting. They both from same linear. They come from same f**king person that made Eminem great and a person who made Snoop great!
After that, NORE continues to little bit defend Joe Budden for saying his opinion about Eminem’s music. Royce also thinks Dr. Dre, 50 Cent or Fredwreck need to squash the beef before its too late.
Royce Da 5’9″ and Benzino beef is getting out of control now. Exchange of the tweets are getting personal. Benzino attacked Royce’s best friend, Eminem. Then Royce came back, targeting Benzino’s daughter. Now Benzino is dropping stupid comments on Royce’s mother and grandmother.
