50 Cent Reflects on 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin'' Movie & Eminem’s Hollywood Exit

50 Cent Explains Why Eminem Never Made Another Movie After “8 Mile”

Posted on August 1, 2026 By Remy Gelenidze

50 Cent recently opened up in a new interview with GQ magazine about his transition into film and the creative hurdles that came with it following his massive success in the music industry. Reflecting on how his feature film debut came together, the rap icon explained the high-powered momentum behind the project. “I got involved in “Get Rich Or Die Trying” movie project because I was at Interscope Records and I had entire the same production backing as Eminem’s “8 Mile.” For me going into creatively I didn’t know what I was getting into cause I said ‘yeah, yeah I’ll do more movies,’ and the when we got into it, it was really no control.”

For artists accustomed to having absolute final say over their output, the collaborative and often restrictive nature of major movie sets can be a massive adjustment. 50 Cent pointed out that transitioning from the recording booth to a Hollywood film set meant relinquishing the creative authority that top-tier musicians depend on. Instead of steering the ship, cast members are just one piece of a massive production machine.

That sudden loss of creative autonomy is precisely why another hip-hop titan permanently pulled back from starring roles after a single blockbuster attempt. Addressing Slim Shady’s famous departure from feature films, 50 Cent revealed, “This is why they could not get Em back after 8 Mile. Cause he can control things when working on music in the studio, it’s not ready till he says its ready, we can do it or do it over, it does not matter until its perfected but now you just someone on the team of people who could make great project.”

While 8 Mile and Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ remain cult classics that captured a pivotal era in hip-hop history, 50 Cent’s comments highlight the stark contrast between studio perfectionism and cinematic compromise. Though Eminem chose to keep his focus squarely on music after 2002, 50 Cent ultimately used his Hollywood initiation to build an empire of his own, mastering the television and film industry on his own terms years later.
