Rexha revealed the uphill battle she faced trying to convince industry executives of the song’s massive potential when it was still just a raw demo. Advertisement According to Rexha, the vision for the track was clear to her from its very inception, even if record labels failed to see the bigger picture. “I was working on my EP and I had a song called ‘Monster Under My Bad’ and I was shopping it to labels but they didn’t get it,” Rexha explained. “And also, the beat, when Eminem went it, a lot of people don’t know that he’s very hands-on with his production, the production we originally had was not where it needed to be. So I think a lot of labels heard the song but they didn’t hear what it could be. I had a lot of people passing that song. It wasn’t a calculated corporate play, but rather a sudden flash of inspiration during a studio session. “You know what’s crazy thing about The Monster? Me and my team were writing it for my EP and we had just put down the hook and we were in the room and as we were writing the song, I swear to god something came to me and I was like ‘This would be a perfect Eminem record,'” she shared.Years after the song topped the charts, Rexha finally shared the stage with Eminem at Coachella, an experience that brought her anxiety but also a deeper appreciation for the rap icon’s work ethic. “When I performed with Eminem at Coachella, I was kind of nervous. I thought when I come out everybody’s gonna think I’m Rihanna. When I went to soundcheck, he was not what I expected.
