Everlast on Squashing His Beef With Eminem

Former House of Pain frontman and La Coka Nostra member Everlast recently appeared on an episode of Okayplayer’s The Almanac of Rap podcast, opening up about his past with Eminem. Reflecting on their high-profile feud from the late 1990s and early 2000s, the hip-hop veteran made it clear that any past bad blood between the two legendary artists is ancient history.

Addressing where things stand today, Everlast shared, “We squashed the beef long time ago. Something happened where Eminem said something after a long time but I couldn’t find any disrespect in it. I felt like, that sounds like almost complimentary. And we have some really good friends in common and one of the was like ‘nah, nah, he’s good.’ And not that long ago he big up House of Pain and there is a mutual respect.”

Despite the fierce diss tracks exchanged during the height of their dispute, Everlast maintained that he always recognized the Detroit rapper’s immense skill and contribution to the genre. He placed their past clash in perspective, framing it as a natural, competitive element of hip-hop culture rather than a deep-seated personal rivalry.

“I never said that guy wasn’t one of the greats. We had our little rap beef. We had an exchange. One of us got took umbrage and we did what rappers do. That’s all it was,” Everlast explained. His comments reaffirm that mutual respect ultimately prevailed over one of hip-hop’s most notable turn-of-the-century feuds.
