D12 ‘s 20th Anniversary Canadian Tour: A Review By CeaTee

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a huge fan of D12 and all things Shady Records. When I heard 2/6 of D12 were coming to my city along with Obie Trice, you know I had to jump on it. Naturally, I had to grab the VIP meet and greet pass too.

When the day finally came, I was unreasonable, just as nervous as I was excited. I felt like I was about to have Mom’s Spaghetti on my sweater. As I was waiting in line for my turn to meet D12, I was greeted by a man who I wasn’t familiar with. I later learned this was the hype-man/DJ that was touring with them, DJ Invisible. This guy is a ray of sunshine. His smiley persona is contagious in a way that just makes you feel comfortable where you are.

While waiting in line, I decided with my buddy that we’d meet them at the same time. We thought this would take some pressure off. Once we finally got to the front of the line, I had a nearly out of body experience as I first shook hands with Swifty. I told him how I’d been a fan of his since way before I was old enough for his music. Next, I shook hands with Kuniva. I told him I had a part in writing an interview he did for Southpawer a while back. He told me it was a great script and tied it off with a “Much Respect” acknowledgement.

As Swifty and Kuniva happily signed my D12 CD, I started making small talk. My buddy asked Swifty what his favorite track he’s ever recorded is. Swift told him he can’t really give an answer because it would be like trying to choose a favorite child. I joked with him and said “Well, you have to say you don’t have a favorite child, but secretly, deep, deep down you do”. Swifty sort of chuckled and said “Alright, I’d probably say “Loyalty” then.” Finally, we turned around to snap one of the most awkward but cherished photos in my personal history.

These guys are incredibly easy to talk to. They’re very welcoming and all about their fans. Meeting these guys feels like meeting up with a close friend that you haven’t seen in years. I get the impression that they don’t take anything they have for granted and they don’t feel entitled to have fans that have hung around to the end.

Once the D12 meet and greet was over I hung around the bar in the same room as D12 as they continued to meet more fans. I took this opportunity to make my way to the front row of the stage. Before the show started, an artist by the name of Hinch did about 30 minutes of material. I never heard of him but he definitely knows how to warm up a crowd.

Once Hinch wrapped up his set, he said goodbye to the crowd and it was time for DJ Invisible to step in and prepare us for Obie Trice. A short time later, Obie sneaks onto the stage and slips right into “Got Some Teeth”. This is one of my favorite Obie tracks, so I was very happy to see him open with it.

A short time into the set, Obie stopped to pay his respects to Nate Dogg. As he prompted the audience to all put 2 fingers in the air for Nate Dogg, he continued to perform “Look in My Eyes.”

One of the most surprising moments of his set is when he decided to tell a little untold story about Akon. I believe this was when he met him for the first time.

I was really happy to hear him perform his verse from one of the deeper album cuts from Eminem‘s Encore album, “Spend Some Time.” The hypeman also made the crowd to scream “Shady Forever” a few times.

Next, Obie did his verse from the track “S–t Hits The Fan.” Despite the fact that Obie had to cover Eminem’s part while the background vocals play, you almost don’t notice. There’s something to say about such a level of energy and validity about someone’s performance when you almost forget Em wasn’t in the room.

Speaking of Eminem, Obie humbly paid massive respects to the man himself, Marshall. It’s truly touching to hear Obie counting his blessings and not taking his Shady connection for granted.

Obie finished his set with a very raunchy rendition of “Shake That.” He invited some women from the crowd to come dance with him and things got a little… interesting. Let’s just say that it was the type of dancing that is very appropriate for “Shake That” and maybe not appropriate for children.

As Obie walked off the stage, I noticed the crew setting up for D12. I was in the first row, so I was close enough that I could actually see their setlist guide that they taped to the floor, nice!

Dj Invisible opens for D12 and hypes the crowd up.

DJ Invisible came back out on stage to keep the hype at it’s maximum while we patiently waited for D12 to make their entrance. As he comically appears to start levitating a giant D12 cap from underneath the table to his head. Soon after, D12 opens with “Rap Game”. This guy oozes charisma and DJ skills. I also very much enjoyed his wacky giant D12 hat. D12 finally came out with the crowd losing their minds; every arm in the building raised higher than Shaq on his tiptoes.

Still high off that introduction, they double up on it with “S–t On You.”

One of the biggest highlights of the entire show was when they pulled out a cover of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”. The crowd knew the words so well you could barely hear D12. The icing on the cake is when a female fan snuck on stage and started dancing with them until security had to remove her.

The hype never died down for a second during the entire show. The guy’s were determined to make that a fact. Towards the end, Kuniva and Swift even went head to head in a hype battle.

To close the show, Obie Trice returned and joined the rest of the gang for a few tracks. If I remember correctly, I believe they wound the show down with a performance of “Loyalty”

After the show, I had one thing left to do. I had to navigate through a club full of staggering drunk people and find Obie. He was supposed to be there before the show, but he was late. This made finding him after the show a little chaotic. Thankfully, I found the man and told him how incredible the show was. I pull out my Devil’s Night CD and ask for an autograph. I said “I believe this was your first appearance on the Shady Records label, if I’m not mistaken!” He paused for a second, looked at the CD cover and immediately quoted the first bar or so of his “Obie Trice” skit. I’ve never been more star-struck in my entire life. As he happily started signing the booklet of the CD, I sort of chuckled and said, “Yeah, exactly!” As I’m about to pass out from exhaustion, I get my picture with Obie, he signs, I thank him one more time and leave with some incredible memories…

Royce 5’9″ urges Eminem again to another Bad Meets Evil project

Nasaan and Royce 5’9″ have recently sat down with Way Up With Angela Yee where they talked about Nasaan’s upcoming album Error 404 that’s releasing on April 25, 2024, featuring BabyTron, Royce 5’9″, Icewear Vezzo and more. They also talked sobriety, Cordae, Eminem, Paul Rosenberg, Obie Trice, Big Proof, their biggest mistakes and much more.

Nasaan & Royce 5’9″ on Cordae
Nasaan: I don’t even have a problem with the dude. I actually like him as a person. I picked on him a few years ago and then my fans just loved it. It’s like an inside joke. That’s messed up. That’s mean. I probably gonna stop. So, shout out to Cordae though. It’s rooted in competition. It’s not like a personal beef.
Royce 5’9″: I love Cordae. He is so emotionally intelligent. That’s why I didn’t think anything of it. And you know how the rappers are when they are young. I was the same way. I was doing more than ripping pictures.

Royce 5’9″ on DJ Premier and Eminem
Me and Preem working on, it’s a joint thing we do together called PRhyme, so we working on third installment right now. As far as me and Marshall, all he has to do is sent me a text message and I’m to the studio whenever he’s ready. We pretty much do that on his time. And he’s always on some type of time. He’s always on some sort of mission. I don’t know what he’s doing right now but I know he’s recording a lot of stuff.

Nasaan on Paul Rosenberg
When Paul discovered me I was somebody who was just really good at rapping. I didn’t have myself figured out. Now I understand more who I am, not only as an artist but as a person. There is more to steer and guide now. Paul is helping and plying a part and it’s easier for him to understand who he’s working with. He’s a big homie. He’s always in my corner.

Royce 5’9″ on Obie Trice
I have not spoken to Obie Trice in a while. I bumped into him couple of times but it was an environment where we could really like kick it but I’ve heard some things. I’ve got that feeling [to reach out and talk] couple of times watching him. That’s a slipper uphill slope. I don’t wanna step on toes or say anything that’s gonna offend anybody. I know, how us as addicts, we get defensive when people come at us in any kind of way about our problems. If ever the opportunity for me to speak to him, if he ever feels the need to speak to somebody I’m certainly somebody he can definitely reach out to. I’m always available for that. That’s like a big thing to me too as well. Just not only being sober but taking the steps through my sobriety helping other people. It’s so tough to do because you don’t wanna seem like one of those people who got sober and now you coming from a place of judgement.

Obie Trice responds to Benzino crying & namedropping him on Eminem diss

Few hours ago, former Shady Records artist, Obie Trice responded to Benzino crying during Drink Champs interview and namedropping him on Eminem diss song “Rap Elvis.”

Obie shared a picture of Benzino crying on his Instagram with the caption: “Marshall needs no help. Please stop. You talking about my champ GOAT n-gga, you weird. Look at this guy he’s in between blessings. LEAVE EMINEM ALONE FOO. I pray for humankind this n_gga cried on Drink Champs, what?? There’s no beef. No one cares bro. Get money, LIVE!! FOR YOU Benzino ‘f-ck Eminem’ you will never win bro. Whhhossahh, as a black man you playing yourself. Crying.”

He continued: “We destroyed you years ago LET IT GO!! I hope the best for Benzino. You said my name in your song bro. Man, it wasn’t eyebrow raising, you reaching for what OG?? .. get to the money!! I looked up to The Source magazine I grew up off that sir!! Go back and listen stubborn old man we took you out years ago you thought dawg was a w-gger.  I would have never been there bro. PLEASE STOP YOU EMBARRASSING OUR CULTURE BRA. ITS REALLY NOT THAT SERIOUS TO BE. This not Elton John, we will never respect what you said about that man’s daughter bruh gets some therapy that sh-t works, if you engage keep going homie.”

In the song Rap Elvis, Benzino raps: Okay, you found 50, and you put on five Detroit n-ggas / Rest in peace to the best one, the rest of them sound iffy / So let’s go down your stable (Okay) / Gunn left your label (Uh huh) / Benny left your label (That’s right) / Con’ left your label (Ah) / Royce left your label, Joe Budden left your label (Damn), Ortiz left your label, know Crooked I couldn’t save you (Nah), Yelawolf been out here floppin’ and where the hell Ca$his at though? (Where he at?)/ Heard from Obie Trice only twice and not a word from Stat Quo (Not a word) / With all them false lines that you pitched them / Shady Records sound like less of a name and more like a description (Stop it).”

When Obie says “we will never respect what you said about that man’s daughter,” he’s referring to Benzino’s 2002 diss track “Die Another Day,” where he raps: “Tell Hailie it ain’t safe no more (nah) / Daddy better watch your back at the candy store / You f-cked up / Resort to plan B, f-ck around, she end up like JonBenét Ramsey (that’s right) Matter of fact you better check the DNA (what) / She probably ain’t yours and where’s your wife Kim anyway?”

Obie Trice asks fans to report his hacked Facebook page following weird Hailie comment

Former Shady Records artist Obie Trice has recently asked his fans a favor on Instagram.

Few days ago, some of the fans were in shock when Obie’s verified Facebook page made a weird comment on other Facebook page who shared Eminem‘s daughter, Hailie Jade Mather’s pictures: “Da Bruhs gonna love her.”

It turns out Obie Trice’s Facebook page was hacked long ago. Yesterday, the Detroit rapper jumped on Instagram to ask his fans report his Facebook page cause he does not own it anymore: Obie shared a picture with the caption on it: “Facebook band page is hacked. Please report it.”

Please help Obie and report this page.

If you don’t know how to report a page on Facebook, check this article here.

Hardcore fans knew Obie would never disrespect Eminem’s daughter but now it’s time everybody to know that. Obie has always been loyal to Em, even after his departure from Shady Records.

Back in 2003, Obie Trice even jumped on a track “Doe Rae Me (Hailie’s Revenge)” with Eminem and D12 to respond Ja Rule’s ruthless words about Hailie.

Big Proof tribute songs: Eminem, Royce 5’9″, Obie Trice, Kuniva, Swifty McVay, Jem

On this day (April 11), 16 years ago in 2006, Big Proof was shot and killed in Detroit.

To celebrate the life of the legendary figure in hip-hop we have listed songs that were dedicated to Proof after his death.

Royce Da 5’9″ – Security

“I was at Proof’s funeral / Crying like a baby, I was sitting in the back row / With Kid Vishis, wishing I can go up to Marshall / Denaun, Swifty, Obie, Bizarre, Paul and Von / And say something positive, after all the negative s**t that we been through.”

Eminem – “Difficult”

“I found that jacket that you left at my wedding and I picked it up to smell it / I wrapped it up in plastic until I put it in glass and hang up in the hallway so I can always look at it…”

Kuniva – “Lights Out”

“This s**t is so depressing /I stop thinking selfish, my dude had kids / Left with a lie about the last day that he lived / And I sit shedding tears, that’s me and my little drama / I lost me a brother, but his kids lost a father.”

Swifty McVay – “Guardian Angel”

“Your family is stronger than ever / Keeping it cool / Thanks to God /Time heals wounds / I’ll see you soon / Sometimes it gets hard / My heart is still scarred / But I’m gonna be repping Proof forever / ‘Till I’m gone!”

Eminem – “You’re Never Over”

“Proof, not many are lucky enough to have a guardian angel like you / Lord I’m so thankful, please don’t think that I don’t feel grateful, I do / Just grant me the strength that I need, for one more day to get through / So hommie this is your song, I dedicate this to you / I love you Doodie.”

Obie Trice – Ride Wit Me

“Proof, to shine hopes on your memories forever spoken, long as Obie’s able to lay focus / I’m gonna stay focused til them pearly gates open, for the next soldier to pave the way for mo-town / No matter what they say you’re profound, Pioneer of Motown music that’s what Proof did.”

Jem – You Will Make It

“You’re not alone, You’ll never be, Just like the stars, They oversee , And they whisper to you, You’re still, you’re still, you’re still, you’re still alive..”

D12 – “Mr. Pitts,” ft. King Gordy

“We all love driving, reminiscing about how me, you (Bugz) and Proof used to go fishing / I wanna give you a call but I don’t know what to say / That’s why I get on my knees every night and I start to pray.”

Obie Trice new post sparks Eminem’s new album rumors!

Few hours ago, Pepsi released the 4 minutes trailer of Super Bowl show, featuring Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige.

The five music icons are set to perform at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on February 13, 2022.

Some fans spotted hints that lead to new Eminem album rumors. Many of them think that the album is dropping tonight.

Few hours earlier, Obie Trice penned a letter to Eminem on Instagram while sharing The Marshall Mathers LP cover with “Criminal” playing in the background. In now deleted post’s caption, he wrote: “M ni**a forever, I love you doody and thank you for everything. Hey, it’s me, Versace! Whoops, somebody shot me! And I was just checkin’ the mail Get it? Checkin’ the male?” – Marshall Mathers. The God!”

Since The Marshall Mathers III is the most discussed Eminem’s new album title, Obie’s post brought the rumors on to another level.

Hit-Boy namedrops Eminem and Obie Trice on his new song

This Friday, the soundtracks album of Judas and the Black Messiah movie has been released and it includes a song “Broad Day” by Hit-Boy. In the song, the Grammy-winning and multi-platinum producer raps:

“Niggas said they with the sh*ts, that all was a myth
Marathon, pace it out, you caught in a sprint
Show me who you are once, ain’t gotta show me twice
You can’t sell like Eminem, you look like Obie Trice.”
