Jay-Z recalls writing verses for Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg’s “Still D.R.E.”

Last year during an interview with The Breakfast Club, Snoop Dogg revealed that Jay-Z wrote the verses for his & Dr. Dre classic track “Still D.R.E.” He claimed that Hov who credited on the track with his real name Shawn Carter, flow into Dre’s LA studio and wrote the whole song in under an hour.

Now, in an appearance on the season premiere of HBO’s show “The Shop“, Jay-Z recalls the same thing. “When you write for other people, I don’t know if you do it anymore, but when you used to do it, like “Still D.R.E.”, one of the greatest written song, but you write it actually how Dre would speak, how do you channel, cause you have to be in that character for write for them,” asks Maverick Carter.

“On that reference track, I’m doing Snoop and Dre, both of them,” says HOV.” You gotta have somewhat of reverence for them, the music they were making, The Chronic, and all of that, in order for me to really nail the essence of Dre and Snoop, it had to be like a studied reverence of what they were doing.”

“The tracks we put on this disc are mostly overlooked or rarer favorites of mine from all different parts of my career. I also put a brand new, unheard song on there so even the biggest fan has something new.” said Eminem.

The two iconic rappers also performed their legendary song “Renegade” at DJ Hero’s Party. Since then, you could find many fan-shot videos and pictures from the performance but as it seems, the official video is also available! You can watch it below:

4 times Eminem and Jay Z collaborated on a song !

Today, legendary rapper Jay Z turns 51. To celebrate the birthday of one of the iconic figures in the hip-hop world, we have listed all the tracks Jay-Z and Eminem have collaborated throughout their decades-long career.

1. Jay Z – “Renegade,” featuring Eminem (produced by Eminem) [2001]

“Renegade” is a song from The Blueprint album by Jay-Z. Not only Eminem was the only guest rapper on the whole album, but he also produced the beat (originally for him and Royce Da 5’9″).

2. Jay Z – “8 Miles and Runnin'” featuring Freeway (produced by Eminem) [2002]

“8 Miles and Runnin'” is a song by Jay-Z from 8 Mile: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture album. It is produced by Eminem, and features Freeway, who at the time of this song was released, had just been signed to Roc-A-Fella Records. The name of the song “8 Miles and Runnin’” is shout out to the legendary song “100 Miles and Runnin’” by N.W.A.

3. Jay Z – “Moment of Clarity” (produced by Eminem) [2003]

“Moment of Clarity” is a track by Jay-Z from The Black Album. It is produced by Eminem and his long-time collaborator Luis Resto. We can assume Jay got this beat for free since on DJ Kay Slay’s 2003 freestyle, Eminem raps: “I’ve made beats for Jay-Z for free.

4. Eminem – “Syllables,” featuring Jay Z, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Stat Quo and Ca$his (produced by Eminem) [surfaced in 2010]

The song was surfaced online in late 2010. It was produced by Eminem and Dr. Dre and was recorded around late 2007 but it was never officially released. It was possibly intended for Eminem’s scrapped project titled King Mathers or Dr. Dre’s never released album DETOX. The actual name “My Syllables” was confirmed in an October 2008 interview with Quo where he says: “The song that featured Jay-Z is a song that Eminem’s putting on his album, called ‘My Syllables.'” For more details, read here. When the song surfaced online, it was just titled “Syllables.”

In his new book, Barack Obama explains how he relates to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”

Couple of days ago, Barack Obama released a new book, titled “A Promised Land,” where the former president of the United States explains how he relates to Eminem’s Oscar-winning song “Lose Yourself” and Jay Z’s “My First Song.” You can read the chapter below:

“Ultimately it was rap that got my head in the right place, two songs especially: Jay Z’s “My 1st Song” and Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself.” Both were about defying odds and putting it all on the line (“Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, would capture it? Or just let it slip…”); how it felt to spin something out of nothing; getting by on wit, hustle, and fear disguised as bravado. The lyrics felt tailored to my early underdog status. And as I set alone in the back of the Secret Service van on the way to a debate site, in my crisp uniform and dimpled tie, I’d nod my head to the beat of those songs, feeling a whiff of private rebellion, a connection to something gritter and more real than all the fuss and deference that now surrounded me. It was a way to cut through the artifice and remember who I was.”
