Eminem introduces Barack Obama at Kamala Harris rally in Detroit & Obama raps “Lose Yourself”

Former President of the United States Barack Obama lost himself in the music, the moment on Tuesday night (October 22, 2024) at Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s Detroit rally ahead of the 2024 presidential election next month. The Detroit icon took the stage to introduce Obama at the event.

“I’m here tonight for couple of important reasons. As most of you know, the city of Detroit and a whole state of Michigan mean a lot to me. And going into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever and I think it’s important to use your voice so I’m encouraging everybody to get out vote, please.” said Eminem.

Then he continued: “I also think, the people should not be afraid express their opinions and I don’t think anyone once in America where people are worried about retribution of what people would do if you make your opinion known. I think Vice President Harris support the future of this country where these freedoms and many others will be protected and upheld. And here to tell you much more about that, president Barack Obama.”

From there, Barack Obama continued: “I have done a lot of rallies, so I don’t usually get nervous but I was feeling some kind of way following Eminem and I noticed my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, vomit on my sweater already, mom’s spaghetti. I’m nervous but on the surface I look calm and ready to drop bombs! I thought Eminem was going to perform and I was going to jump up. Love me some Eminem!” You can watch the video below:

Eminem to introduce Barack Obama at Kamala Harris rally in Detroit

CNN reports: Eminem makes few public appearances, but the the Detroit icon is set to make an exception when he introduces former President Barack Obama at a Detroit rally tonight.

A Democratic official familiar with planning for the event said Eminem is not expected to perform, but rather to welcome Obama to the Motor City for a get-out-the-vote rally for Kamala Harris. In doing so, Eminem is expected to offer his thoughts on the presidential race, which he has rarely done.

But Eminem’s views of Donald Trump are well known, accusing the former president of “brainwashing” his supporters. He delivered a blistering critique on Trump that went viral at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards.

A parade of celebrities have stepped forward to campaign for Harris and the Democratic ticket, but few of which have the iconic pull of Eminem, particularly in Detroit, as Harris fights to fortify the blue wall in her deadlocked race with Trump.

Eminem responds to Barack Obama after reciting “Lose Yourself” lyrics

On Friday, Production company ATTN and Barack Obama announced that they are teaming up to launch a 5-part video series that highlights some of the biggest themes from the 44th president’s new memoir, A Promised Land, the book that became the bestseller in 2020.

When I needed inspiration on the presidential campaign, I often turned to music. Ultimately it was rap that got my head in the right place, two songs especially: Jay Z’s “My 1st Song” and Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself.” Both were about defying odds and putting it all on the line (“Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, would capture it? Or just let it slip…”)” – Obama said, reading a passage from his book.

Eminem responded Obama on his Instagram story with folded hands emoji. You can check out the screenshot below:

Eminem’s manager, Paul Rosenberg also praised Obama’s taste:

In an effort to reach younger audiences with his new book, A Promised Land, the former president of the United States, Barack Obama is bringing portions of the book to Instagram with a new series.

On Friday, Production company ATTN and Barack Obama announced that they are teaming up to launch a 5-part video series that highlights some of the biggest themes from the 44th president’s new memoir, a book that became the bestseller in 2020.

In my new book, A Promised Land, I share the story of what inspired me to pursue public service and the ups and downs in my first few years of my presidency, but I wanted to share some of the most important moments with you,” Obama said in one of the video.

That is why I am teaming up with ATTN: for a new series talking about some of the biggest moments that defined those years for me,” Obama added.

In one of his recent videos, Barack Obama recites lyrics from Eminem’s 2002 hit single “Lose Yourself” — a song which helped the president to pump him up on the 2008 campaign trail, as he writes in the book.

In his new book, Barack Obama explains how he relates to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”

Couple of days ago, Barack Obama released a new book, titled “A Promised Land,” where the former president of the United States explains how he relates to Eminem’s Oscar-winning song “Lose Yourself” and Jay Z’s “My First Song.” You can read the chapter below:

“Ultimately it was rap that got my head in the right place, two songs especially: Jay Z’s “My 1st Song” and Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself.” Both were about defying odds and putting it all on the line (“Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, would capture it? Or just let it slip…”); how it felt to spin something out of nothing; getting by on wit, hustle, and fear disguised as bravado. The lyrics felt tailored to my early underdog status. And as I set alone in the back of the Secret Service van on the way to a debate site, in my crisp uniform and dimpled tie, I’d nod my head to the beat of those songs, feeling a whiff of private rebellion, a connection to something gritter and more real than all the fuss and deference that now surrounded me. It was a way to cut through the artifice and remember who I was.”
