DJ Mark The 45 King also know as The 45 King, an iconic hip-hop producer from New York City who collaborated with Jay-Z, Eminem, and Queen Latifah, passed away on Thursday. He was 62.
Born Mark Howard James, he took the moniker The 45 King because of his fondness for sampling old, obscure records. His death was announced on social media Thursday afternoon by a fellow hip-hop producer, DJ Premier.

The 45 King is the man who produced arguably the greatest storytelling hip-hop song in history, Eminem’s “Stan” from his 2000 classic album, The Marshall Mathers LP.

Yesterday, Eminem received birthday wishes from his friends, colleagues and fans as the Detroit legend turned 51 years old.
Happy birthday to the legendary Eminem. What’s crazy is during my whole come up I used to ask “I wonder if Eminem knows who I am..” that s–t mattered to me. He was the one rapper that I NEEDED approval from. Maybe it’s because musically he birthed my style and from age 13 this dude was like a god to me. The way he was able to put words together and express himself. The way he was vulnerable and spilled his heart out with his pen and made you feel something. From “Stan”, to “The Way I Am” and “Cleaning Out My Closet” and “Lose Yourself” and “Hailie’s Song” and many others…” said Joyner Lucas on his Instagram post.
“HAPPY BDAY TO EMINEM, ONE OF THE MOST INCREDIBLE MC’S TO EVER TOUCH A MICROPHONE SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THIS HIPHOP CULTURE!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREATNESS KING!!” wrote Busta Rhymes in the caption of his Instagram post.
“Happy Birthday to the living legend Eminem love you to death man, God bless wishing you many more.” wrote 50 Cent on X.

Fast forward and I get to shoot my music video with him…. “LUCKY YOU”….I remember being on this video set and it feeling like an out of body experience the whole time. I kept saying to myself “this ain’t real”… like I’m shooting a music video with the GOAT right now On MY BIRTHDAY!!?? The whole video shoot he kept saying things to me like “yo, when you said this line and that line on this song and that song, how did you come up with that? Like how did you put those syllables together and how did you tell the story in that way?” I’m like, damn bro, you really listen to my s–t? Lol blew my damn mind. Marshall is probably the most humble down to earth people you will ever meet. Happy birthday my brother and thank you for your contributions to both the game AND my life.”

In the latest episode of Wild N’ Out featuring 24kGoldn, Hitman Holla, Justina Valentine and more, Nick Cannon threw a little jab at Eminem during “Flow Job” session.
Wild ‘N Out is an American sketch comedy and battle rap improv game show television series created and hosted by rapper, producer and comedian Nick Cannon, currently airing on VH1 channel.
Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out delivers lightning-fast improv and head-to-head battles, helmed by the master of ceremonies, Nick Cannon. The stakes are high as teams face off in a series of visceral, hip-hop-edged comedy showdowns, all culminating in a rap battle for the championship belt.
During “Flow Job” session, Nick threw shot at Eminem with the following bars: “I’m kinda like undertaker, you know I get it in. All I need is a shovel and a b–ch named Eminem.”
Nick Cannon has showed love to Eminem in numerous times so it’s obvious he’s just having a fun time. Last year, during the interview with XXL magazine, Nick said: “Shouts out to everybody but number five is Marshall Mathers, Eminem. I gotta give props and respect and credit to the man cause he’s a beast because criteria for me for top five is obviously numbers, skill, flow, storytelling ability or messaging, lyricism based on the bars and how you put it all together and that dude checks all the boxes so definitely I’ll give Em number five.”
Hip-hop music producer and executive Bobby Simmons has recently sat down with Math Hoffa and his crew on My Expert Opinion podcast where he talked about Melle Mel and Eminem going back and forth.
“This whole Melle Mel and Eminem thing…I don’t really want to talk about that but I gotta make this clear to people who listen. The whole Eminem thing, let me explain this to people cause I know Mel. Mel loves it when you talk about him. If you don’t talk about him, you got a problem with him.” Bobby Simmons said.
Then he continued: “How many of you all in this room really think Mel cared that his battle with Eminem meant something? Some of you might probably think he cared. He didn’t care! Mel been though this five times. He done battled Big Daddy Kane. I was there when he battled KRS-1. He lost. Mel lost every battle he had. Am I lying man?! Mel lost every battle he had. It didn’t matter. When you talk about it, he was the one that battled him. Mel been into this million times he lost to everybody!”
“Let me also clarify something. When people talk about Eminem…Melle Mel is sitting in the same chair Eminem is sitting. Is Melle Mel in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame?! So is Eminem. Do Melle Mel got platinum records and platinum albums? He went triple platinum. He done win the Grammy. He and Eminem sit on the same seat. Mel is probably saying everybody right now ‘yo, I don’t care if I lost to Eminem as long as you say who was the guy that had the nerve to battle Eminem?!’ Can you name anybody? Don’t name Game, name somebody else.” Bobby Simmons added.
DJ VLAD has recently sat down on bomb1st where he revealed that an interview with Eminem is the interview that he always wanted to do the most.
“I mean, I always felt like an Eminem interview. Like, me and Eminem being roughly the same age, having roughly the same background, having roughly the same experiences. I mean, I didn’t grow up in trailer homes but I did grow up in projects in Springfield, Massachusetts and sort of this love of hip-hop and being white.” said VLAD.
Then he continued: “I discovered Eminem before Dre did cause I’ve been hip-hop kid since elementary school. I remember this website called Sandbox Automatic which basically sold an independent vinyl. This was like ’96-’97. And I remember they had The Slim Shady EP. There was a lot of buzz over this new white kid from Detroit. I remember I bought it. I bought the CD. I remember driving around in it in the bay and listening to it, letting my friends listen to it. I remember one of my homies was like ‘nah man, black people ain’t gonna f–k with this.’ but then Dre found him and boom and he’s a superstar. But I discovered Eminem before Dre and Jimmy Iovine and all these people. I was very early on that train. And I knew right away how talented he was and how much better he was than anyone else.”
“I remember I religiously followed every guest appearance he had, on Da Ruckus and you know, Bad Meets Evil and everything else. I really followed his career closely. So, saying that, I think me and Em could sit down like 3 hours, it would be the biggest interview he has ever done. Easy! Easy! The biggest interview he has ever done would be me and him because of what I do and who he is. I don’t think there is anyone that could sit down with him and pull off what I can pull off. But we have never been remotely close to an Eminem interview. I was in the same kind of outside area with him one time. Never spoken. But he knows who I am. He has referenced one of my Lord Jamar’s interviews in one of his songs so he knows who I am. But I’ve never been in the same room. That’d be an interview that I always wanted to do. But I don’t know if its gonna happen or not.” VLAD added.
Later, in the comment section of the video, VLAD explained the meaning of the word ‘discovered.’ He said: “The title is a bit misleading. If you watch the interview, I just said I was listening to Eminem’s music a while before he got signed to Dre. I was never in a position to sign him or anything like that, which people associate with the term “discovered”.”
At the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards — which took place at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on October 3, 2023 and then broadcast Tuesday night (October 10, 2023) — Kendrick Lamar became the night’s biggest winner, taking home all four awards.
The rapper swept every category he was nominated in, winning hip-hop artist of the year, lyricist of the year, best live performer and video director of the year, alongside his collaborator Dave Free.
A slew of artists went home with two awards, including Drake & 21 Savage (hip hop album of the year for Her Loss and best duo or group); Lil Durk feat. J. Cole (best collaboration and impact track for “All My Life”); Lil Uzi Vert (song of the year and best hip hop video for “Just Wanna Rock”); and Metro Boomin (producer of the year and DJ of the year).
Cardi B and 21 Savage entered the show as the lead nominees, with 12 apiece; Cardi was shut out, while Savage scored the two awards above.
BET Hip-Hop Awards also honored legendary DJ Marley Marl with “I AM HIP-HOP” award during the ceremony. In the video dedicated to Queens, New York-born producer, Eminem also appeared alongside LL Cool J, Swizz Beatz and others.
“He has produced some of the greatest hip-hop beats of all time. He kind of composed it and caught that moment. They were about to explode. The energy that LL had mixed with Marley’s production lit a fire under LL to make that album what it was. Marley, man, one of the greatest. What can I say? He deserves the award because he’s f–king Marley Marl. So what are you gonna do about it?” says Eminem in the pre-recorded video clip.
G-Unit’s very own Tony Yayo steps into the spotlight on BET’s ‘Rate The Bars’.
Watch as Tony Yayo pulls no punches, brutally rating and roasting some of the hottest bars from your favorite rappers! Yayo rated bars from NORE, 50 Cent, Ice Cube, Larry June, Ice Spice, Eminem, Lil Baby, Young Thug, Lloyd Banks and himself.
Tony Yayo gave 5 out of 5 to Eminem’s bars from “Lose Yourself”: “As we move toward a new world order / A normal life is boring, but superstardom’s / Close to post-mortem, it only grows harder / Homie grows hotter, he blows, it’s all over / These hoes is all on him, coast-to-coast shows / He’s known as the Globetrotter, lonely roads / God only knows he’s grown farther from home, he’s no father.”
Yayo said: “I’mma give that a five cause I like that. I know who that is and I’mma give that five. Shout out to Eminem. Free Yayo. Always shouting him out cause he always…You know, at the Grammys, he wore my shirt when I was in jail. Him and 50 always had support so I always biged him up.”
Eminem and Dr. Dre‘s latest signee, Philippine’s own Ez Mil sat down with Genius to discuss his newest hit “Realest,” which has been streamed almost 15 million times on Spotify to date.
The rapid-fire hit song features Eminem himself and it’s off Ez Mil’s mot recent project, DU4LI7Y: REDUX. In the latest episode of Verified, Ez talks how he collaborated with the artist he crowns the G.O.A.T.
He also breaks down how a casual email led to his new deal with Eminem’s Shady Records, Dr. Dre’s Aftermath, and Interscope.
“My girl got an email. It said ‘Paul Rosenberg / Shady / Goliath Records – how to connect with Ez Mil? This is Paul.’ She thought it was fake because its so casual but it was actually pretty serious. And when I found out I was meeting Em and Dre, bro, I don’t know, it’s still crazy.” said Ez Mil during the intro of the episode.
Later, the Shady Records artist talked about the Eminem reference he made in his second verse, where he raps: “I done got hit on the head, barely survived that s–t (Okay) / Minus a nine from ten, Eminem’s spot still sits / But f–k a position, I’m tunin’ him in / Let all you rock out with it.” He said: “This part, I was just paying homage to the GOAT, cause it’s just an honor to be on a song with him.”
“I knew they were gonna hate that flow [last part of second verse] but its because they suck. They don’t know how to do it properly. I learned how to do that flow by listening to a lot of Eminem and Tech N9ne. What inspired me to try to do that was ‘Speedom.’ That song is just nuts.”
