Warren Sapp Talks Jay-Z vs. Eminem and 2002 Super Bowl Theme Song on Drink Champs

Warren Sapp Was Asked To Choose Between Jay-Z and Eminem on Drink Champs

Posted on May 22, 2026 By Remy Gelenidze

NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp recently sat down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN on the Drink Champs podcast, where he was put on the spot during the show’s signature “Quicktime or 2 Minutes” segment. When asked to make the ultimate hip-hop choice between Jay-Z and Eminem, the legendary defensive tackle refused to slight either icon. Instead, Sapp praised both artists before diving into a passionate tribute to Eminem’s lyrical prowess and the deep personal connection he shares with Shady’s music.

Faced with the difficult decision, Sapp emphasized that Eminem is not a lyricist to be trifled with, highlighting the Detroit rapper’s unmatched vocabulary and fierce reputation in battle rap. Explaining his choice to appreciate both legends, Sapp delivered a vivid warning about testing Eminem’s skills, stating: “Oh, s–t! I’m going with both. That white boy will tear a thesaurus up. Leave that white boy alone or he’ll get your a-s.”

The Super Bowl champion then revealed that Eminem’s music served as the literal soundtrack to his ultimate football triumph. Sapp recalled how a specific 2002 diamond-certified anthem fueled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their historic championship run. “Eminem was our theme song in a championship,” Sapp shared. “‘Lose Yourself.’ I listened to ‘Lose Yourself’ whole 2002 season. That s–t so hard.”

To prove just how deeply the track is embedded in his football legacy, Sapp capped off the discussion by rapping the lyrics to “Lose Yourself” right on the set. The moment captured the cross-generational and cross-disciplinary impact of Eminem’s historic track, showing how a rap anthem perfectly mirrored the intensity and drive of a championship-bound NFL defense.
