In a New Interview, Nate Diaz shows love to Eminem

Nate Diaz Explains Why He Nearly Refused to Sit Near Everlast Over Eminem Beef

Posted on April 1, 2026April 1, 2026 By Remy Gelenidze

The MMA world and the hip-hop community often overlap, but few fighters represent that bridge as authentically as Nate Diaz. During a recent appearance on the This Past Weekend podcast with Theo Von, the Stockton legend shared a hilarious anecdote involving his visit to Eminem’s Shade 45 radio station. The story perfectly captured Diaz’s signature brand of loyalty, even toward a global superstar he has never actually met.

The conversation took a comedic turn when Diaz initially described his relationship with Slim Shady as if they were lifelong friends. “Eminem was dissing Everlast hard back then and me and Eminem are f–king homies,” Diaz stated confidently. When a surprised Theo Von followed up by asking “Really?”, Diaz immediately clarified the situation with a grin. “No. I don’t know him. I never met him in my life. But I was committed, I’m into his music and I’m on his side,” he admitted, proving that his fan loyalty is just as intense as his fighting style.

This sense of dedication created an incredibly awkward situation for Diaz when he found himself at the Shade 45 studios. He realized he was scheduled to sit right next to Everlast, the former House of Pain frontman who was once Eminem’s primary target. “I was at Shade 45 and I was sitting by Everlast. I was like ‘why am I sitting by Everlast? I shouldn’t be by this motherf–ker because I was f–king on Eminem’s side,” Diaz recalled, feeling like he was caught behind enemy lines.

The root of Diaz’s internal conflict was the legendary beef between Eminem and Everlast that dominated headlines in the early 2000s. The feud produced iconic diss tracks like “I Remember” and “Quitter,” leaving a lasting impression on fans of that era. For Diaz, the battle lines were still very much drawn. “Eminem dissed Everlast back then and I was like ‘bro I don’t know if Eminem would be cool with me sitting by Everlast. I don’t think I should be here,'” he explained.

Despite the passing of time, Diaz felt the need to clear the air to ensure he wasn’t disrespecting Eminem. He eventually worked up the nerve to check the current temperature between the two artists. “And then we were talking and I quietly asked him ‘are you cool with Eminem or what?'” Diaz said, recounting the moment he finally addressed the elephant in the room while sitting in the studio.

Everlast’s response was a swift reminder of the irony of the situation, given their location. Diaz laughed as he finished the story: “He was like ‘yeah man, c’mon, what do you think? We are on Shade 45.’ I should not have asked him that. I was on Eminem’s side though.” While the rappers have long since moved past their differences, Nate Diaz’s story serves as a reminder that for some fans, “Shady” loyalty never truly fades.
