New Video: GRIP – “94 Flow,” ft. AHYES

Back in October, GRIP dropped a mixtape called “5 & A F*** You,” the follow-up project of his Shady Records debut album “I Died For This?!,” featuring guest appearances from AHYES, Marco Plus, Wara and Tate228.

The East-Atlanta rapper originally intended to record an EP in a week, but instead ended up extending the project to mixtape length, letting it run its proper course. You can feel the emotion in his voice when he raps: “The day Em spit me my lyrics, I knew I really made it / To have him and Royce on my album, that shit feel amazin’/ ‘Cause they giants in my eyes, residin’ where I aim to be / Remember buyin’ they CD and now they give me game for free.”

After “Cook Up” and “The F Word,” GRIP dropped the music video of “94 Flow,” featuring AHYES yesterday. The song is produced by Latrell James and its chorus references to A Tribe Called Quest song, titled “Oh My God.”

A little over a year since the I Died For This? dropped GRIP returned with his latest project, 5 & A F*** You. The album consists of 11 songs and the East Atlanta rapper brings along a few lesser-known collaborators to flesh out the album. 5 & A F*** You features guest appearances from AHYES, Marco Plus, Wara and Tate228. On the production side, Latrell James handles a good chunk of the tracklist Rahki, DJ Khaleil and others contribute.

GRIP drops music video for “Cook Up”

GRIP is back!

Shady Records’ signee shares visuals for “Cook Up” song, produced by Latrell James and Tedd Boyd, from his latest project called “5 & A F*** You.”

In the song, the East Atlanta emcee raps: “Paint the Sistine wit 16 bars / Wit 32 I’m magic / My first 48 will do you tragic / A 64 it’s caskets / Perhaps its taken it too far / I’m 2pac in a 2022 car.”

A typical rap verse contains sixteen bars (lines). GRIP compares his sixteen bars to the amazing work of art on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City. Doubling up to thirty-two, GRIP describes his lyrics as magical, while referencing Magic Johnson, a former NBA player who played for the LA Lakers while wearing the number #32 on his jersey.

The Markee Ruffin-directed music is a standard affair, following the ATLien throughout his travels on the road. You can watch the clip below:

GRIP freestyles over Wu-Tang beat, talks best advice from Eminem & more with Sway

Shady Records’ GRIP has recently sat down with Sway In The Morning where the East Atlanta rapper talked  about his latest project “5 & A F*** You,” most important advice he received from Eminem and more. He also freestyled over Wu-Tang and Capone-N-Noreaga beats.

Sway: I got a call from Paul Rosenberg. Eminem’s manager called me at home like ‘hey Sway, GRIP coming to town, I really need this one.’ I was like ‘Paul, you didn’t even have to call me.’ Now tell us one thing if you can. I’ve known Eminem before he signed the deals. I got pictures of him in my house in LA. I used to school him on my basketball court. I know him for so long, from rap battles to coming on our shows and tours and all the stuff he did on MTV. His knowledge runs deep and I don’t know if folks really get a chance tap into that unless you’re with him personally. Is there something he said or shared with you that really sticks?

GRIP: When we had our second phone conversation, he was just saying — because I was kinda asking him, what it is, I feel like everybody has to have some stick about him to be in this game, because we are essentially characters as rappers, as musicians. You are selling more than music. It’s the personality that comes with it and everything  — And he was just literally like ‘Yo, bro, just be yourself and that s–t comes to you. If you find it, it just comes. He was like ‘you got it, you have it already!’ And then I was like ‘If Eminem tells me this, then it’s different. That was probably the most important s–t that he said to me.” said GRIP during the interview.

GRIP drops new project while being on tour with Westside Boogie!

The Shady Records artist is back with 11-track tape, titled “5 & A F**k You,” featuring guest appearances from Wara, Ahyes, Marco Plus and Tate228 with production coming from Latrell James, DJ Khalil and Tedd Boyd among others.

In 8-minutes track called “Many Thanks,” GRIP shows gratitude to everybody who played a big role in his personal and career growth, including Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″:

JID took me to Europe I’m honored to be affiliated
The day Em spit me my lyrics, I knew I really made it
To have him and Royce on my album, that s**t feel amazing
Cause they giants in my eyes
Residing where I aim to be
Remember buying their CD
And now they give me game for free
A major key
Cause once upon a time they were the same as me
Pray I’m half as successful as them, just gotta wait and see
Paul, Mike and all of the Shady fam
The crazy fans
You all saw something in me even when nobody gave a damn

Actually, my favorite Eminem song is ‘The Way I Am.” And then he starts rapping the hook of the song with crowd chanting along, before kicking the Joey Bada$$ assisted “Outside” verse where he interpolates the lyrics and flow of the legendary song from The Marshall Mathers LP with the following lines:

Funny that I’m standin’ with the dude who made Stan / But never treat me like a fan, ’cause what I am, what I am / Whatever you say I am, s**t, if I was interesting / Why would I say I am? S**t, and the the radio don’t even play my jam / I give no damn, I’m in Bompton with the fam’.

GRIP performed songs from his Shady Records debut album with the same title, “I Died For This!?,” as well as a few tracks from his previous work.

Eminem is featured on the track “Walkthrough,” which is widely considered as the best verse from Eminem in 2021.
