Westside Boogie & GRIP thank Eminem for “Fuel” (Shady Edition)

WESTSIDE BOOGIE and GRIP are two names on Eminem‘s Shady Records that have shown their great lyrical abilities and they are on full display on “Fuel – Shady Edition” song from the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of Em’s “The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)” album. If you heard the original version of the song on the album, you would remember that Eminem and JID shared the song of the same name. Overall, it’s one of the biggest highlights, if not the biggest, from the project.

WESTSIDE BOOGIE and GRIP make the most of their time on this tweaked track, rapping with elite proficiency about being counted out but never out for the count. Of course, sticking to “Fuel” “tradition”, Em’s got more bars for Diddy. We are also messing with the slightly darker and more low-key production switch-up too. In the end, we need some more listens, but the “Shady Edition” is giving the original a run for its money.

After the release of the album, both artists thanked Eminem on social media. “WOW man I’m really on an @eminem album ..Thank u @shadyrecords ..S–t wild.” he said on Instagram. “Thanks @eminem Never woulda thought.” said GRIP on Instagram. Check their posts below:

New Song: Young Saab – “Where U At?” ft. femdot., GRIP & GALXARA

Young Saab releases new single “Where U At?” featuring our boy GRIP among femdot. and GALXARA, produced by Young Saab himself.

“New one out today. one of our favorite songs we’ve made fr. doesn’t hurt that we got 2 killer verses from 2 of our favorite rappers. @femdotdotcom and @grip absolutely slayed it. and we had a blast writing the bridge in la with @galxara and @bigbabymaize. big up to @noreenprunier for putting it all together.” wrote Saab on Instagram.

It’s been a while since we last heard from GRIP. Last time the Shady Records artist hit the spotlight was back in October, 2023, when he dropped visuals for “Intro” song from deluxe edition of STILL (5 & A F*** You).

GRIP releases music video for “Intro”

After dropping music video for “Numbers,” GRIP is back with new visuals for “Intro” song from deluxe edition of STILL (5 & A F*** You).

STILL (Five & A Fu*** You) serves as the deluxe follow-up to GRIP’s 2022 album 5 & A F*** You, itself a quick project meant to hold fans over while waiting for sample clearance on his proper follow-up to 2021’s I Died For This!?.

Unlike its predecessor, STILL contains no features. Production is primarily handled by frequent collaborator TU!, as well as newer collaborators DG and Scalez.

In the song “Intro,” GRIP makes reference to Jay-Z and Eminem song, “Renegade” with the following lines: “Lord, forgive me for my sinnin’ ways / In the bars, MMA, they got Em amazed / Shady Records, b–ch, I’m rollin’ with the Renegades.”

GRIP talks about Eminem slander, raps his “Patiently Waiting” verse

GRIP has recently done an interview on Mr Jay Hill Network where he talked about the Eminem slander that’s been going on for the last ten years.

“Eminem slander…It’s been a sneaky ten years bro. And it’s because, think about this, you got, let’s say, 19, five years ago you were 14. And you might not even have been on social media and now you got this opinion, you young and you say whatever the f–k you wanna say cause you listening to whoever the f–k you listen to. So you just kind of follow popular opinion and you ain’t took time to go back and study cause you are not a rapper. You go to high school and you are listening whoever.” said GRIP

Then he continued: “Ni–as been tripping but it does not even matter. A legend paid Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, what, what’s the debating for? Like I told you, they gonna debate Kobes, LeBrons, Jordans. Hey man, they already paved the way. They made their legacy.”

“I had Eminem and Royce 5’9″ on my first record. That was a full circle moment. These are the biggest songs that I ever done. I didn’t write the verse multiple times, I only wrote one verse for it but I was so meticulous with that cause bro it’s Eminem, he gonna rip you apart regardless.”

“Back in the days, as a kid, I was like, DAMN, Em’s structure on ‘Renegade’! You had to literally slit write that down and be like ‘hold on bro, what the f–k.’ But he had to! Who he was on the track with?! JAY-Z! He might have been like ‘this might be the biggest song I’ve done. I’m on Jay’s album!’ It was 2001 and Em was big but think about it bro. He grew up on it. Eminem was trying to do s–t when Jay-Z was popping.”

New Music Video: GRIP – “Numbers”

GRIP makes his directional debut as he drops the music video of the song “Numbers” from his latest project STILL (5 & A F*** You) Deluxe.

“My directorial debit! “Numbers” vid OUT NOW! S/O @95ekbgod for helping execute the vision and many thanks to everyone that played a part. Go run this s–t up!” the Shady Records artist tweeted.

“STILL (5 & A F*** You)” is the follow-up of GRIP’s 2022 project “5 & A F*** You.” Unlike the first installment, the new project comes with no features.

“STILL (5 & A F*** You),” which is a deluxe version, includes 11 tracks. Production is done by Scalez, TU!, DG, Super Myles, Swoope, Came One, Leon Michels, Marco Benevento, Reggie Gordon, Tae Beast and Chris Keys.

GRIP freestyles over Kanye West’s “Real Friends”

On the latest episode of “A TRIP TO THE CORNER STORE,” GRIP dropped some bars over Kanye West’s “Real Friends,” to promote his latest release, “STILL (5 & A F*** You).” The instrumental is produced by Noah Goldstein, MIKE DEAN, Darren King, Sevn Thomas, Ging, Havoc, Boi-1da and Kanye West himself.

Shady Records’ GRIP is back again after releasing his very well received album “I Died For This!?” 2 years ago, followed by the lesser noticed but worth your time “5 & A F*** You” last year. GRIP is known for being a gritty-flowed new school artist that doesn’t have to rely on whatever sound is currently trending.

Now GRIP is back with a short and sweet, 11-track Deluxe/Follow up album to compliment the first “5 & A F*** You” project. Maybe “sweet” is the wrong word to describe this one. This might be the most I’ve ever seen GRIP let go of his inner aggression and let everything loose. If the title didn’t already make it clear enough, you’ll understand once you push play on track one.

Album Review: GRIP – “STILL (5 & A F*** You)”

GRIP – STILL (5 & A F*** You) (Deluxe) – Album Review

Artist: GRIP
Album: “STILL (5 & A F*** You) (Deluxe)
Release Date: July 7, 2023
Label: Shady Records/Stray Society
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
Rating: ★★★★★★★★★✩ 9/10

Atlanta rapper GRIP is back again after releasing his very well received album “I Died For This!?” 2 years ago, followed by the lesser noticed but worth your time “5 & A F*** You” last year. GRIP is known for being a gritty-flowed new school artist that doesn’t have to rely on whatever sound is currently trending. In my opinion, this makes him very under-rated as an artist. It’s criminal that he’s not blown up internationally yet.

  1. Intro

The album kicks off with an intro that sets the tone for an intense, open and honest journey of musical gritty wordplay. The track begins with a cold, haunting atmospheric instrumental. The combination of eerie synths and deep basslines do their part in drawing the listener in. Something about GRIP’s immediately flow gives off a slightly defeated vibe. By the end of the track, his tempo picks up in such a commanding way. By the end of the track I can’t help but feel personally charged by the Contagious energy spewing from all aspects of the intro. As far as an intro track, it does a great job hooking listeners and demanding their attention for the next 30 minutes.

  1. Fetch

I love the hard-hitting drums on this one. The extra buoyant basslines are infectiously pleasing as backdrop for the song. In terms of lyricism, GRIP’s clever wordplay is on full display as he carefully weaves together punchlines and metaphors.

  1. Numbers

The Fast-flow rap thing has been done a million times at this point, but it can still be done without being overdone. This track is an example of that. My knee-jerk reaction is to say I hear a bit of JID influence in the flow. Maybe it’s the laid-back but somehow energetic delivery that I’m such a sucker for. Either way, the key strength in this track lies within the versatility of GRIP’s flows. On top of that, the song deserves praise for being able to paint vivid pictures with words while maintaining the focus of even the most casual listeners.

  1. SS

“SS” is the biggest standout track on the album so far. The unapologetically commanding presence and style of this track gets a chef kiss from me. GRIP could have just thrown down flashy bars and called it a day, but the way he switches his flow so effortlessly is magical. I love everything about this track, down to the gritty flow and the well-placed vocal samples.

  1. Bare

This might be the most emotionally vulnerable state I’ve ever seen GRIP in. It’s hard not to feel your heart strings being pulled by the raw, emotional lyrics. Much like the track’s name, beat is very stripped down without feeling skeletal. The delicate piano is stands out carefully because of how muted the rest of the instrumental sounds. It’s beautifully crafted in such a captivating way. I can’t believe this track ends with “I wrote this sh_t while I was taking a dump” and it didn’t do anything to take away from otherwise tear-jerking track. Could this be some of Eminem’s trademarked writing style rubbing off on GRIP?

  1. Keys

Keys mostly takes a well needed breather from the heavier subjects some of the previous tracks dealt with. It leads with a slower, mesmerizingly swimmy beat. Although the instrumental is subtle, the lyrics live into themes of struggling with identity and dealing with choosing the correct paths life gives us. It can also be seen as a celebratory track. When you’re looking at it in that light, it becomes a song about GRIP looking back on his success and what it took to get here.

  1. Time

The melodic instrumental on this track is so incredibly soothing.  I feel like my eardrums are gently receiving a sugar scrub massage. The female vocal samples that dip in and out tie the production together perfectly.  The song’s structure adds an extra layer of depth to “Time.” The verses gradually unfold, building on one another and unraveling different aspects of the theme. This track is yet another testament to his storytelling abilities and mature growth as an artist.

  1. Hyperbole

Honestly, I wasn’t sure where this track was going when it started with a raspily delivered “B–ch!… B–ch. B–ch!!”.  It’s definitely not a track for GRIP’s easier listening fans. This is probably the most acidic, hard to swallow track on the album. It’s also quite a banger! Fans of “Aight!” by Westside Boogie will probably enjoy this one.

  1. Angels

This is my favorite track on the entire album; easily.  As the track title suggests, “Angels” musically transcends earthly limits with it’s powerful, soulful production and meaningful lyrics. The track is nothing short of masterpiece. GRIP’s super organic, realistic delivery adds that much more to already Aw-inspiring song.

  1. Still

Still deals with the frustrations that come with being better than most of your hip-hop colleagues, without receiving nearly the same amount of respect. As a hip-hop head myself, it’s not hard to see his point with this one. It must be awfully tempting to sellout when it seems like that’s the only way to make a big name for yourself in hip-hop. This track is the unfinished story of an underdog/rags to riches story that hasn’t been completed yet. This is a “just wait and see” kind of track.

  1. You

As we reach the album’s conclusion, we come to the track “You”. The production of “You” sets a melancholic and atmospheric tone right from the start. The album is fittingly ending on a very self-reflective track. GRIP wonders how his life could have played out different if he would have made a name for himself sooner. On the same token, he imagines the hundreds of ways he could have wound up dead. I suppose within this track, GRIP is happy for the life he has when he considers how it could be. In a clever way, he’s using this song as a sort of letter filled with advice to his younger self.

From the thought-provoking Intro track to the soulful finale “You,” GRIP takes listeners on a deeply personal journey through themes of self-discovery, love, and vulnerability. At this point, GRIP deserves to be brought up in every conversation revolving around the best of this generation.

Westside Boogie takes on GRIP for Red Bull’s “Rap IQ” game

How high is our Shady Records boy’s rap IQ? Westside Boogie and Brittany Sky take on GRIP and Dee Moe to put their hip-hop knowledge to the test for Red Bull’s Rap IQ game show.

Rules of the game are as following: The host names the artist and the first team have to buzz and give the name of someone who has collaborated with the artist named. The opposing team then have five seconds to name a new collaborator of the new artist that was said. Both teams will then bounce the artists back and forth until someone fails.

At one point, the host named Snoop Dogg on which GRIP quickly replied Dr. Dre. Then Westside Boogie named Eminem. GRIP hit back with Skylar Grey. Boogie had hard time naming Skylar Grey collaborator and made everyone laugh by joking “why did I bring Eminem into this.” GRIP and Dee Moe came out as the winners of that round.

New Song: Twonbeatz & GRIP – “The Past”

Back in October, 2022, GRIP dropped a mixtape called “5 & A F*** You,” the follow-up project of his Shady Records debut album, titled “I Died For This?!,” which featured guest appearances from AHYES, Marco Plus, Wara and Tate228.

The East-Atlanta rapper originally intended to record an EP in a week, but instead ended up extending the project to mixtape length, letting it run its proper course. You can feel the emotion in his voice when he raps: “The day Em spit me my lyrics, I knew I really made it / To have him and Royce on my album, that shit feel amazin’/ ‘Cause they giants in my eyes, residin’ where I aim to be / Remember buyin’ they CD and now they give me game for free.”

After “Cook Up” and “The F Word,” GRIP has recently dropped the music video of “94 Flow,” featuring AHYES. The song is produced by Latrell James and its chorus references to A Tribe Called Quest song, titled “Oh My God.”

After that, GRIP came back again with The Radar Freestyle, spitting over Peezy’s “2 Million Up” instrumental. In the original song, the Detroit’s own Peezy references Eminem with the following lines: “Hit your house party, f–_ it up, we misbehavin’ / Gotta keep an eye on my n–_a Slim cause he Shady.”

Yesterday, the Shady Records hitman teamed up with Twonbeatz, a man who is uncredited producer on Grammy-winning song “King’s Dead” performed by Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and Future from Marvel Studios superhero film Black Panther and Jay Rock’s third solo studio album Redemption.
