Eminem just can’t stop winning!

Slim Shady‘s 2004 single “Mockingbird,” was the most listened rap song this week on Spotify with 15.4 million streams on the platform.

The song has recently hit a major milestone by crossing 1 billion streams on Spotify. How did a nearly 20-year-old Marshall Mathers song dedicated to his daughter become so popular again? Well, like most old songs that resurface these days, it’s because of a video app platform TikTok.

On TikTok, the hashtag #mockingbird has been used in videos that have gotten over 1.7 billion views while #mockingbirdeminem has gotten an additional 500 million views. Like many other TikTok songs, a sped-up version of “Mockingbird” is also popular, having been used in over 150,000 videos. Many TikTok users have also covered the song, mimicking the Detroit rapper’s singsong style but adding their own vocal chops.

After hearing a snippet of the song on TikTok, many users likely jump to Spotify to hear the full version of the song, helping it garner 500 million streams in just one year.

Eminem was also a rapper with the most songs in the Top 20 hip-hop songs this week. “Mockingbird” at No. 1, “Without Me” at No. 11, “The Real Slim Shady” at No. 13, “Superman” at No. 15 and “Lose Yourself” at No. 16.

Rae Sremmurd talk sampling “Stan” & Listening to Eminem growing up

Rae Sremmurd have recently sat down with Bootleg Kev to promote their new album “Sremm 4 Life,” which includes long-awaited Eminem‘s “Stan”-sampled single “Not So Bad (Leans Gone Cold).”

“We just get the clearance man. Shout out to everybody. It’s not easy process. It’s not just one person. It’s not just Dido. We just recently got the clearance and it’s was perfect timing for the album. It’s a turn up song. I feel like world formed that song because it was some viral stuff going on when I sung it the world just been playing it. They wanted the version with the beat so the world really produced that song. Fans produced that song.” said Swae Lee.

Then the host asked the Mississippi duo if they were listening to Eminem when growing up on which they both instantly replied ‘yeah! for sure!’

“That was definitely my favorite rapper. I used to try to rap like him at one point in a time, in my life. I was young. I was super Eminem fan. We had a video where it was like 100 of him. He was really controversial. He was tight.” said Slim Jxmmi.

Trinidad James & T-Pain perform Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers” on Nappy Boy Radio

Trinidad James has recently sat down with T-Pain on the Nappy Boy Radio podcast where the two had a good time with Eminem‘s “Marshall Mathers” track from his 2000’s classic album, The Marshall Mathers LP.

At one point of the interview, when T-Pain asked Trinidad and Tobago-born rapper which song he would perform from front to back if he had gun to his head, James quickly started rapping some lyrics. The crew first got confused but T-Pain realized that it was one of Eminem songs, however they could not remember the title of the track. After googling, they came out with the name of the song and started performing “Marshall Mathers” together.

“Marshall Mathers” is a title track off “The Marshall Mathers LP” which is a direct reaction to the turmoil Eminem’s life went in to after the release and runaway success of The Slim Shady LP.

In the book “Angry Blonde,” Eminem wrote: “While putting together my second album, I kind of wanted to come up with an “I Don’t Give a F–k,” Part 3. Jeff from FBT was playing this acoustic guitar track. He then started singing the hook “Cause I’m just Marshall Mathers”. It’s ill, because every time we’re f–king around in the studio we seem to come up with the dopest s–t. We’ll f–k around and be smiling while we’re saying s–t and I’ll say “Yo that’s dope. I should use that.” When I thought of the chorus I felt that what I needed to talk about in the verses was just me and my opinions. So I touched on everything the newest trends in hip-hop (which I’m not really with), to ICP, to my mother, to my family members who don’t know me and always wanna come around. I wanted to just spit fire in each verse and have the soft-a– innocent chorus. I think it captures the whole “front porch” feel despite on the album’s cover. When I recorded this I decided to call the album The Marshall Mathers LP.”

Tom Green says he didn’t take Eminem’s namedrop as a diss

Canadian-American comedian, show host, actor, filmmaker, podcaster and rapper Tom Green has recently sat down on Boomsies with Dan O’Toole where he was asked about Eminem name-dropping him on “The Real Slim Shady” song from 2000’s The Marshall Mathers LP album.

“Finally got to ask Tom Green where he was when he first heard The Real Slim Shady.” Dan tweeted with the clip of the video where the two is talking about Eminem mentioning Green on his classic hit song. Tom retweeted it with the caption: “Awesome!! Thanks Dan! And thanks Eminem!!!”

“Sometimes I wanna get on TV and just let loose / But can’t, but it’s cool for Tom Green to hump a dead moose / My bum is on your lips, my bum is on your lips.” raps Eminem in the song.

During the interview, Tom recalled the moment he heard the song on the radio for the first time: “[You are on a freaking Eminem song] Yeah, I know, it’s wild. I was just driving in Los Angeles and it came on the radio and I heard it. Nobody had told me about it before and I guess it had just been released. It was pretty cool. I mean, it’s pretty cool getting a name dropped in an Eminem song.” said Tom Green.

Then he continues: “It’s funny cause people sometimes interpret it like it’s a diss, but if you really listen to what he’s saying, it’s not actually a diss. He’s saying that he wants to go on TV and let loose, but he can’t, but it’s cool for Tom Green to hump a dead moose, right? So, he’s sort of almost saying he envied the fact that I was able to let loose on TV while he could not. But he did, of course, end up getting to let loose on TV himself. And when he did, he did not choose to hump any moose. But, that was a Canadian moose as well. So it’s two Canadians referenced in that one line – myself and the Moose were both Canadians. That was just outside of Red Deer, Alberta, that I humped that moose.”

Kurupt says race doesn’t matter in Eminem being successful, brings Snoop Dogg as an example

Kurupt has recently sat down on The Art Of Dialogue where the hip-hop icon responded to Melle Mel saying Eminem would be just another rapper if he was black and he is in top 5 just because he’s white.

“Eminem was serving emcees. That’s an MC to me! He paid his dues, serving people in the cold, freezing… just chopping people’s heads off. Bodies can’t be found cause the snow’s too high off the ground. He got so many bodies throughout Detroit that’s never been seen. There ain’t no way to judge this man because his time decided to send him on a different journey when he came out professionally. Through that journey he showed us his skills on the mic. And its all in the name of hip-hop. So, that’s all that matters. It shows the diversity of hip-hop. We are one culture but we are all nationalities, we are all races, we are everywhere.” says Kurupt

Then he continues: “It’s people like Eminem that kept hip-hop alive. That’s just real. The diversity of it. He made whole different race and generation feel that they can do it too. And we got good ones, great ones from all race. I appreciate what Melle Mel has done. I respect his opinion but our generation, we don’t agree.”

“I know Eminem is great on the mic and people love him. And Snoop Dogg is black and he’s successful like Eminem. So I don’t know, if they like you, they like you, if they don’t like you they don’t like you. That’s why our generation really can’t agree because Snoop did it and he’s black, Eminem did it and he’s white. But everybody has their opinion.” he added.

Fans think Eminem’s new merch is theme to his new album

Eminem has just recently released new merchandise with new visuals from a car graveyard. “I have been sent here to destroy you.” Slim Shady tweeted the line from his 2000 hit single “The Real Slim Shady,” off The Marshall Mathers LP album, while sharing the link to the new merch with #ShadyDemolition hashtag.

Recently released merchandise includes t-shirts, sweaters and hoodies with “Shady Demolition Yard” and different paintings printed on them, which made desperate fans like me think there is something more than just a merch.

One of the users on reddit said: “Hmm, there must be something more to this” on which someone replied: “Egh, maybe. But then again, it could be like the “Camp Shady” thing and have it connected to absolutely nothing.” Another said: “Wasn’t that the time when he was like dropping new merch for multiple MONTHS while it wasn’t connected to anything (including camp shady at one point)? They are even quoting old lyrics in this post. I want new music as much as the next guy but I think this is probably just merch.”

Someone commented: “Y’all are so negative. This looks like more than a merch drop to me,” on that one replied: “I found it odd because it’s called “shady demolition” … usually his merch is linked to albums or just generally use the name shady or other song lyrics, but this feels like it’s a theme for something.”

Chuck D says Eminem & Black Thought are technically most gifted rappers

During a recent appearance on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs podcast, legendary rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy says that both Eminem and Black Thought are technologically gifted when it comes to rapping.

Eminem and Black Thought… big ups to Black Thought, The Roots, and also Eminem. Cyborgs, man. They are cyborgs, but let me tell you this: we can also get caught up cause’ you know, you got future generations, and then you got people who ain’t gonna even get on the register who are so dope.” says Chuck D.

Black Thought and Eminem were both featured on Billboard‘s Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time list, released in February, 2023, with Slim Shady ranked at No. 5 and The Roots frontman at No. 28. Chuck D himself landed at No. 34 on the list.

While Marshall Mathers and Tariq Trotter haven’t collaborated extensively, the two have showcased their lyrical abilities on a few occasions. They famously appeared together in the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher alongside Most Def, before joining forces on wax for the first time on 2020’s “Yah Yah” from Music To Be Murdered By album, which also featured Denaun Porter, Royce 5’9″ and Q-Tip.
