Lil Wayne Reacts to Eminem’s Praise Over Famous Funyuns Line

When hip-hop heavyweights cross paths, game recognizes game, but rare is the moment when a legendary lyricist openly admits to lyric envy. That is precisely what happened when Eminem publicly praised Lil Wayne for a line on the YG and Tyga collaboration “Brand New.” Wayne delivered the clever bar, “Got a bunch of zeros like a bag of new Funyuns,” prompting Slim Shady to express his frustration at not coming up with the punchline first. The mutual admiration highlights the creative rivalry that keeps two of rap’s sharpest pens constantly pushing boundaries.

Sitting down for an interview on the Joint Venture Show, Lil Wayne was asked about Eminem’s reaction to the famous snack-food simile. The interviewer recalled the moment: “Eminem once said he was jealous of the line you performed about Funyuns and the line was ‘Got a bunch of zeros like a bag of new Funyuns’ from the ‘Brand New’ with you, YG and Tyga. Has ever been a line that you were like ‘man, I wish I’d written that’?”

Without missing a beat, Weezy humbly conceded that he experiences that exact feeling on a regular basis, crediting Eminem as a frequent source of that creative envy. Lil Wayne replied, “Plenty times. Many times. And it doesn’t have to be a rapper. Yes, definitely plenty times and Eminem is the usual suspect of that actually. He has plenty lines that I would say ‘Oh my god, why I didn’t think of that?!'”

This candid exchange underscores the deep, enduring respect between two undisputed titans of the genre. From their early collaborations on tracks like “No Love,” “Drop the World” and “Forever,” both artists have shared a unique connection to the craft of writing and wordplay. Wayne’s admission serves as a reminder that even the absolute best in the game never stop being fans of great lyricism, proving that the search for the perfect bar is a forever ongoing pursuit.
