Tech N9ne Says He Was Supposed To Be on “Animals Pt.1” & Has New Ideas For Eminem Song

Tech N9ne recently sat down with Acton Entertainment to discuss his career, upcoming music, and the high-profile collaborations that almost came to fruition. During the wide-ranging conversation, the Kansas City rap veteran opened up about his longstanding desire to team up with Eminem again and shared a few specific track concepts he has envisioned over the years.

Addressing his initial vision for a collaboration, he explained how a classic rock track inspired a concept about staying on top of the rap game. “I had a song idea with Eminem. It was called ‘Pressure‘ by Billy Joel and I wanted to do that song with Eminem to say how much pressure it is to still remain at the top of hip-hop and no one can take it from you and I felt like I could rap with him on that level,” Tech N9ne said.

He continued by revealing that his ideas for working alongside the Detroit icon haven’t stopped there, pointing to a more recent concept built around trip-hop samples. “I have another idea, or even better idea, lately, for an Eminem song and it samples a vintage Portishead’s song and it sound like Eminem did the beat already. So dope! And I told people if we do a song now, it has to be about something. It don’t have to go super political but it has to be about something not just rippity rap, hippity hop,” he added.

However, Tech N9ne went on to express deep regret over a missed opportunity involving both JID and Eminem, detailing how a series of unexpected illnesses sidelined him from a track that eventually transformed into a major release. “Oh man, and this one hurts. JID sent me a song few years ago. It was not called ‘Animals’ when he sent it to me. It was called something else. He had a verse on there and I hit him in his text like ‘Oh, you trying to go, huh?! You trying to race?! Okay! Cool, we are on!’ I went on regional tour and got sick for few weeks. Pushed it back cause without my nose I can’t get on a mic. Then thanksgiving came and all family came by and I got sick again. Then I got sick again in January,” Tech N9ne recalled.

He concluded by sharing how missing the deadline served as a health wake-up call, especially after seeing how the track ultimately turned out. “At that moment, I started doing healthy stuff, it woke me up cause I can’t get sick no more mate, I have to stay able to record because I missed that JID song and then they put Eminem on it and it was called ‘Animals‘ and when he did an interview, I saw he said ‘man, the song didn’t turn out how I wanted to, that’s why I just put it out like I did.’ And I’m like, DAMN!” he said.
