Melle Mel says Eminem gets Top 5 spot because he’s white

One of the hip-hop pioneers, Melle Mel of Grandmaster Flash, has recently done an interview with The Art Of Dialogue where he shared his thoughts about Eminem being in the Top 5 rappers of all time list by Billboard/Vibe magazine.

“Obviously, he’s a capable rapper. If we talk about sales and he sold more than everybody, okay, if we talk about rhyme style, okay, he got a rhyme style. But he is white! He is white! If Eminem was just another ni–a like the rest of us, would he be top 5 on that list when a ni–a can rhyme just as good as him is 35?! They had records and all that.” said Melle Mel.

Then he continues: “The point is, if I was white, ni–a, I’d be greater than Elvis. Ni–as be like, Melle Mel is greater than Elvis! Melle Mel is the greatest white man that ever lived. He’s the part of the culture that changed the whole world. That is great a– white man right there! But I’m not white, I’m one of the ni–as.”

“I heard one of the dudes that’s down with him, Royce 5’9″, I heard he’s just as good as Eminem, why ain’t he as big as Eminem? Because he’s black! That ain’t hard to figure out. Eminem gets top spot because he’s white. Like I said, If I was white, they’d be comparing me to Elvis. They’d be like ‘that ni–a Melle Mel is pretty as Elvis!’ If he was a black rapper he would not even make a list. He would not make a list, probably.”

“Busta Rhymes, who I’d say is the number one, he can rap just as good as Eminem. Eminem, he really got nice tricky gimmick style, the way he puts the words together, I’m not gonna say its unique, but he does it. If he was just another brother…It’s just not true.” Melle Mel added.

As it seems the legendary hip-hop artist is not a big fan of Eminem, unlike Slim Shady, who gave a shout out to
New York City-born rapper during his Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction speech.

Jonah Hill defends Eminem’s Top 5 status in Netflix’s “You People” bonus clip

In the latest released bonus clip from Netflix’s Kenya Barris-directed romantic comedy movie “You People,” Ezra (played by Jonah Hill) and Mo (played by comic Sam Jay) discuss their Top 5 rappers dead or alive on their podcast called The Mo & E-Z Show.

Mo: “Alright bro, Top 5? dead or alive.”

Ezra: “1. JAY-Z, 2. Biggie, 3. 2Pac, 4. Nas, and 5. Eminem.

Mo: “That’s in order? — Eminem though?”

Ezra: “Yes, in order, that’s why I put numbers in front of every person… Why do I have to keep defending Shady? I mean, his sole purpose is to be on other people’s tracks and murder them. I mean, ‘Renegade’? ‘Dead Wrong’?”

Mo: “Dawg, he’s like, I don’t know the Larry Bird of rap. Hick from French Lick. You know what I mean? He’s not great. He’s great because he’s a white man in a Black man’s game.”

Ezra: That is so stupid. That might be the dumbest s–t you’ve ever said to me.

Billboard and Vibe magazine have recently rolled out the list of 50 Greatest Rappers Of All Time to celebrate Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary and their top picks were Jay-Z as number one, Kendrick Lamar as number two, Nas as number three, followed by Tupac and Eminem at no. 4 and no. 5 respectively.

Jay Z’s “Top 5 Emcees” interviews resurface after HHT tried to discredit Eminem

Few days ago, JAY-Z hopped onto Alicia Keys’ Twitter Spaces room to chat about the music industry on Tuesday night, giving his thoughts on a potential Verzuz match-up by telling the hundreds in the audience that he believes nobody can stand alongside him on that platform.

Since he made the comments, hip-hop fans on Twitter thought Eminem could be a good challenger for Jigga, but many of them started to discredit the Detroit legend.

As a result, Hova’s old interviews where he’s naming Eminem as a Top 5 Emcees of all time has resurfaced online.

Back in 2009, in an interview with Big Boy, JAY-Z was asked to list his own Top 5 Emcees: “I got the usual suspects – Biggie, Pac, Scarface, Eminem and Andre 3000. Off top of my head, that’s would be my top 5.”

In his 2012 interview, Jigga responded the same question with: “I would choose Biggie, because of his ability to tell the stories to be humorous, to be dead serious, he just had it all. I would choose Tupac because what he does not have and technical skills will be overcame by passion. Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-1 we gotta put him as well. I need more Emcees, you gotta have Eminem and Nas but those five and then we will switch them up.”

In 2018, Hova also praised Eminem’s cadence. Listen to all of them interviews below:

Lazarus ranks Eminem inside Top 5 rappers of all time

Fat Joe has recently set down with Detroit’s own Lazarus on Instagram Live to talk about many things that’s going on in the world right now.

As usual, Fat Joe asked his guest from Detroit to list his top 5 rappers of all time. Here is what Lazarus replied:

“My top five…Obviously Pac and Biggie, that cliché gotta stay in there. Because the impact they had on me. The genius GZA, who’s also personal mentor of mine. That’s one of my favorite emcees. He might be my favorite emcee just because of wordplay, science that he puts into it, you could see the connection to it. “Liquid Swords” is my favorite album of all time. Shout out to GZA, genius. Then I probably go with Nas and Eminem and Big Pun. That’s six but you know…”
