Russ hits the studio with Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg

Russ was recently spotted having a “dream come true” studio session with one of his biggest influences as a producer Dr. Dre and his long-time friend and collaborator Snoop Dogg.

Russ shared some pictures of him and Dre in the studio on Monday, June 26, 2023. The collage post also shows the rapper going to the gym and Larry Jackson’s wedding, where Timberland and Swizz Beatz put on a fantastic live performance. Larry Jackson is a former Apple creative director and a record producer.

Jackson was also present at the iconic studio session, along with Death Row co-founder Michael “Harry-O” Harris and Snoop Doggy Dogg.

“When I was 7 and writing raps in a notebook it was because of the music and artists this guy cultivated. Recording with Dr. Dre at his house and having him coach me on the mic was insane. Can’t even believe it. Dream come true shoutout to Larry Jackson for making the introduction and capturing this moment.” – wrote Secaucus, New Jersey-born rapper on Instagram.

Larry responded in the comment section: “Soooo much more to do! Only the beginning.”

Logic references Eminem in a new song with Russ

Logic and Atlanta artist Russ use “Therapy Music,” — the third single off of Logic’s 2022 album titled Vinyl Days,— as a way to unleash everything on their minds.

The two go back-to-back with long verses of just bars with no chorus, rapping about everything life has thrown at them in a therapeutic release.

Logic’s verse includes lots of reference, including Eminem. At the end of his verse, he raps: “Still at the top, where I been at? Eight Miles from the surface of Earth, feelin’ Infinite.”

The line is clearly a reference to Eminem’s Oscar-winning movie “8 Mile” and his debut album, called “Infinite.”

Russ & Royce talking about Eminem’s excellence writing

Russ and Royce Da 5’9″ have recently done the Instagram Live session where the two talked about Eminem and the current state of hip-hop.

Royce 5’9″ on Eminem: “I was there when Eminem was recording lots of stuff. We used to share hotel rooms. He was just beat up all night. He was pacing around. He writes like, you know, everything connects syllable-wise. He writes different syllable schemes all around the paper and it’s like nothing is in order. Little blobs and stuff. Then he goes into the booth and he just picks s**t. Now he thinks a lot. I think we all do that just with age. We just think more but back then he didn’t think. He would just go in there, He didn’t second guess it. He used to just spill the s**t and he would always pick the most comfortable pocket in the beat.

Then Russ continues: “When you really listen to Eminem, it sounds like you downloaded his vocals with the beat. Like, there is no other flow or tone or pocket. When I listened to what Eminem said about ‘Infinite’ album like ‘Infinite was me sound like AZ’ and then I stopped giving a f**k and that’s when people started giving a f**k. I was always resonated with that too. He was like ‘f**k you all’ and that’s when the whole world was like ‘I love you.’

Russ says he first got interested in rap because of Eminem & 50 Cent

Recently Russ set down with DJ Suss One for an interview where he talked about his biggest musical influences. When Suss One asked Russ about his list of the greatest artists of all-time, Russ responded with a chart of his biggest inspirations, including a number of legends:

“I originally got interested in rap and hip-hop via 50 Cent and Eminem. Then I got into, it was in high school, I was a freshman in high school in ’06 so, when Lil Wayne was going crazy. I just remember being in high school when freestyles were dropping and the mixtapes. Wayne was running s**t. I remember what it felt like when ‘A Milli’ dropped. Just the idea of being able to spaz on a beat, that was Wayne.” said Russ.
