During the NBA All-Star weekend at Believe Music Hall, 50 Cent could not help himself not to start humming over Pop Smoke’s “Got It On Me” song from “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon” album, which was executive produced by Fifty himself.
The song also samples and interpolates an iconic 50 Cent song “Many Men (Wish Death)” from a classic Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ album, which was released back in 2003. “Got It On Me” was featured in the album trailer for Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon on June 10, 2020, and verses were taken from Pop’s Power 106 Freestyle.
Late rapper Pop Smoke hit an impressive feat on the Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop album chart in the United States . Just a few days ago, Billboard reported that Pop Smoke’s posthumous album, Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon, which is executive produced by 50 Cent, reached an accolade that was unseen in 30 years on its Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
According to the Billboard, Pop Smoke’s album is the longest-running No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop album chart since 1990 (in the last 30 years), leading the chart for the 17th week. The record was held by Eminem’s 2010 album, Recovery which spent 16 weeks on the charts. Overall, legendary rapper M.C. Hammer’s Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt Em album, dominated the chart for 29 weeks back in 1990.
Pop Smoke’s Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon album, which was executive produced by 50 Cent, is officially Ireland’s biggest debut album released in 2020.
Pop Smoke’s Meet The Woo mixtapes put him on the map, but his legacy was firmly cemented with his debut and posthumous album Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Official Irish Albums Chart in July, and returned to the top spot 10 weeks later to claim a further 5 non-consecutive weeks at the top.
The album has tied with Eminem’s Recovery album for the most weeks at No.1 in Ireland’s history for a rap album (6-6 weeks at No. 1)
Another Eminem’s record stays untouchable though. Slim Shady has the most number 1 rap albums on the Official Irish Albums Chart history. Check the numbers below:
Couple of weeks ago, in an interview with Spotify, 50 Cent, who served as an executive producer for Pop Smoke’s posthumous album “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon,” shaded the Grammys for not recognizing gangsta rap: “If Pop Smoke’s album is recognized, it will only get recognized because Pop Smoke is gone. The content is similar to what I would do. They did not recognize mine. They gave me Grammys when I was with Em, when I am on records with Eminem.”
Fifty continues: “They are afraid to give Pop Smoke Grammys because they think it is teaching the audience to want to be like Pop. And to be like him is to be a part of gang culture. Who you see get Grammys that is making Drill music? You mean to tell me ain’t none of those songs worthy of it? Those platforms are not for them to acknowledge. It is for the culture, the people to embrace those tones and to really appreciate the artist for doing that.”
Yesterday, The Recording Academy unveiled the nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards and Royce Da 5’9″ got the Best Rap Album nomination along with Nas’ “Kings Disease,” D’Smoke’s “Black Habits”, Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist’s “Alfredo” and Jay Electronica’s “A Written Testimony.” As 50 Cent predicted, Pop Smoke’s album didn’t get the nomination but his single “Dior” from that album is nominated for Best Rap Performance.
Fifty headed to his favorite social media platform, Instagram, to address Best Rap Album nominations: “Best Rap Album (laughs). They out of touch this s**t ain’t it, get the f**k outta here.” Check out the actual post below:
As you might know 50 Cent served as an executive producer for Pop Smoke’s posthumous album “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon” and the King of the New York predicts that the project will be snubbed at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
“If the album is recognized, it will only get recognized because Pop Smoke is gone. The content is similar to what I would do. They did not recognize mine. They gave me Grammys when I was with Em, when I am on records with Eminem.”
50 Cent has been nominated for 14 times at the Grammys, but he only won in 2010 for Eminem’s “Crack a Bottle” which also features Dr. Dre. Fifty has received nominations for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best New Artist throughout his career but has won none.
“They are afraid to give Pop Smoke Grammys because they think it is teaching the audience to want to be like Pop. And to be like him is to be a part of gang culture. Who you see get Grammys that is making Drill music? You mean to tell me ain’t none of those songs worthy of it? Those platforms are not for them to acknowledge. It is for the culture, the people to embrace those tones and to really appreciate the artist for doing that.” 50 Cent added.
As far as Eminem, the Rap God has been nominated for 44 times and has won 15 times.
