Millyz talks Eminem’s influence & “Stan” sample

In this exclusive interview with AllHipHopTV, Millyz talks about his struggles of getting to the top of the underworld. He also speaks with Jigsaw about being signed to legendary Jadakiss, discusses being a white rapper in the rap game and the influence that Eminem had over him when growing up.

“Eminem was probably the one that made me go ‘If he did it, I can do it. Because there was not that example. Eminem, Paul Wall. As far as me, looking in the mirror like ‘Okay, there are some serious white rappers.'” – said Millyz

Then he continues: “I sampled Dido’s voice that Eminem sampled on ‘Stan.’ So, I sampled the ‘Stan’ sample. Even when I put it out I said ‘I just cleared the Stan sample.’ To me it’s a Stan sample cause I don’t know the other song. But thank you to her.”

Novak Djokovic performs Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” dressed up as Snoop Dogg

By dressing as Snoop Dogg for the Monte Carlo Masters player party, Novak Djokovic dazzled his adversaries.

The world’s number one tennis player dressed up as Snoop Dogg and danced to one of his and Dr. Dre songs before rapping to Eminem. And he won over more fans with his x-factor off the court, including the girlfriend of his latest victim at this week’s Masters as Ivan Gakhov’s partner branded him as the GOAT.

Few hours ago Ivan Gakhov’s girlfriend took to Instagram to share some footage from the Monte Carlo player party, where Novak Djokovic performed couple of hip-hop songs on stage.

In the first video Djokovic donned chains, sunglasses, a bandana and fake long hair for his performance, as he danced to Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s iconic track, titled “The Next Episode.”

“Last night recap. Are we google to finally settle the debate on why he is the goatest?” Gakhov’s partner captioned the video.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion also wore a hoodie with low-rise baggy pants. In a second video, Djokovic can be heard rapping Eminem’s Oscar and Grammy winning song Lose Yourself with three others on the stage.

“Kings doing their kings’ s–t on the players’ party. I mean…The levels of enthusiasm, self-irony and pure joy outside of their achievements is what makes them so truly worthy. Wow. I am so grateful to be able to witness it.” – she wrote over the footage of second video.

Kevin Durant shares his thoughts on potential 50 Cent & Lil Wayne Verzuz battle

If 50 Cent ever made the decision to enter the Verzuz ring and compete against Lil Wayne, Kevin Durant has made up his mind that he will support 50 Cent.

The NBA star has recently sat down for new episode of The ETCs where he and co-host Eddie Gonzalez discussed the potential Verzuz battle, and Durant has 50 Cent reigning victorious.

“I would not say Fifty is going to flat-out wash Wayne. I will not say that out of respect for Wayne. But it is not going to be a clear-cut win for Wayne against 50 Cent. And these records that he has from ’02 to, let’s say, ’07.” said Durant.

Then he continues: “Fifty is — he’s one of the greatest — that five-or six-year period for G-Unit, and Fifty was incredible. It is like one of the best runs of all time in Hip-Hop. A lot of people said that Wayne would just wash 50. And we definitely disagreed on that.”

“And he still a monster. A lot of s–t and he has had a 20-year run based off of what he created back then and saw many avenues that he built off of that run and had so many pivots in his career. 50 is one of the greatest.” Kevin Durant added.

Benzino says Michael Jackson thanked him for standing tall against Eminem

In the latest episode of The GAUDS Show, Ray Daniels and Tamira Smith at down with Benzino where they dive into Benzino’s journey in creating The Source magazine, and the controversies that came along with it.

He also opens up about his experiences as a father and reflects on the lessons he learned through his relationships with women, including his time on reality TV. Zino also recalled some history with Eminem.

“First of all, I didn’t listen to that [Eminem] type of rap. That just was not my type of rap. He can rap. Eminem is a talented, skillful rapper but that’s not my type. The beauty of hip-hop is that we have so many different types of artists and I can listen to what the f–k I want to listen to. Everyone has their own top ten lists. If Eminem is on your top, god bless you, I respect that.” said Benzino.

Then he continues: “Let me tell you something. I was in Miami and Michael Jackson called me and thanked me, because when Eminem dissed him with fire situation in the video, I sat there and I listened to him. He thanked me and then he started talking about Tommy Mottola. That was one of the greatest moments in my life. Mike was not saying all white people are bad, we are not saying that. Not all of them are devils. Michael was referring to the situation in the music industry. He actually thanked me, because I kinda upheld, stood tall against him.”

“It was not a rap beef against Eminem. I wasn’t a decent rapper. I had decent songs but I was doing whole bunch of other things. I was a pretty good producer too. I produced Nas’ double platinum Stillmatic album, the very first song. Eminem came out and he just got different treatment than any every other black rapper. And I just didn’t appreciate that. So, when everybody was scared to say something, I was the only one who didn’t. And everything I said was true. I said that black people got hip-hop and we got white people to finally buy into us. And now they want to give the white people back somebody that they can buy into. And 200 years from now, when they pull up the history, and search who was the best one, there comes Eminem.” Benzino added.

NF responds to people who think he dissed Eminem on “MOTTO”

In the latest episode of Lowkey Deeply, NF spoke about his upbringing, his process of writing music and mental health. The Gladwin, Michigan-born rapper also talked about how his new album titled HOPE came together and revealed if there really is a feud with Eminem.

Even though NF has cited Eminem as his biggest influence when growing up, fans think there has been going on some back and forth between the two since Slim Shady dropped Kamikaze album. In the song “The Ringer,” Marshall raps: “Last week, an ex-fan mailed me a copy / Of The Mathers LP to tell me to study / It’ll help me get back to myself and she’ll love me (ooouuu) / I mailed the b–ch back and said if I did that / I’d just be like everyone else in the f–king industry / Especially an effing Recovery clone of me (NFing).”

“An effing” is a minced way of saying “a f–king”. Em is supposedly taking a shot at NF who makes music often compared to Eminem in his Recovery era, but who refrains from using profane language in his lyrics. Eminem softens his own profanity to mock this, while simultaneously turning it into a pun on NF’s rap name.

In one of his latest singles, titled “MOTTO” NF raps: “(Oh, snap) This is the industry… (Oh, yeah) Would’ve gave anything / To be respected by the artist I was listening to / but not no more, them days are history.” Fans thought those lines were response to Eminem but the young rapper denied the rumors in the latest interview on Lowkey Deeply.

“The older I get and the more I do music I just don’t care about it as much. Some people trying to take lines like that and make personal thing towards a person specifically but overall, I’ve never felt less of a need to get the nod from anybody artist wise. Because I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, whether or not I’m ever get the nod from the industry itself, I’m proud of the shows I’m able to do. The records I’m able to sell.” said NF.

Then he continues: “It’s not that a nod from certain artist would not mean something to me but it’s just I don’t feel the same as I would have. So yeah, the reason is, once you just have been around and you have seen the industry more, I feel like you feel just kinda shifted how I thought about the industry and music and stuff like that.”

NF shouts out Eminem and Dr. Dre on a new song

NF has recently released long awaited fifth solo studio album, titled “HOPE.”

It was announced through the album’s self-titled lead single, “HOPE”, released on February 16, 2023. This marks NF’s first full-length studio album in over three years.

The album includes a song “Turn My Back,” produced by Saint X and David Garcia, NF shows love to Eminem, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar and others who inspired him musically.

Need grace, need love, need God, need faith
Betray, cut ties, first time, first take
Worst case, wordplay, my home, my stage
My place, less you, more Ye
More Drake, more Em, more Dre
More Cole, more Kendrick, more names
Cordae, Sean, 6LACK, my list
My names, my picks, my taste (Woo)

One of NF’s favorite artists growing up was Eminem. And as you can see, he still relates to his music.

NF and Eminem had a little battle of words before, starting with Eminem’s song “The Ringer” on the album “Kamikaze” in 2018, saying that NF copied his album Recovery, probably referring to NF’s album Therapy Session.

Even though NF didn’t name drop Eminem after the shot against him, he spat his part on his song “Returns” on the album “The Search” in 2019. And possibly addressed to this incident when he said even his idols opinions don’t matter to him anymore in the song “MOTTO” in this new album.

Even though all this happened between them, NF still counts Eminem on his list and respects his childhood idol as an artist.

Elton John shows love to Eminem during O2 show in London

Elton John is on his way to Europe for Farewell – Yellow Brick Road the final tour, performing some of the iconic hits from his incredible career.

Last night, Elton John performed at O2 Stadium in London. During performing “I’m Still Standing” single they showed Elton and Eminem’s legendary picture from their iconic Grammy 2001 performance of “Stan” on the stage’s big screen.

“Eminem, Had a feeling you might pop up at the O2 last night!! Elton, amazing show.” One user tweeted while sharing the moment the reel showed Elton and Slim Shady picture.

At the 2001 Grammy Awards, when Marshall Mathers was facing criticism from GLAAD over his homophobic lyrics, Eminem responded them by performing “Stan” with Elton John singing Dido’s lines. Since then, the two become amazing friends. Elton even helped Eminem to overcome his drug addiction.

Israel Adesanya compared rematch with Alex Pereira to Eminem in “8 Mile”

Israel Adesanya defeated Alex Pereira in the second round to avenge his lone loss in the UFC at middleweight, pulling off a surprise knockout victory to reclaim the title at UFC 287 in Miami.

Adesanya desired a speedy rematch after losing to Pereira in November cost him the 185-pound (84 kg) championship crown that he had held since 2019.

Before the fight, during the press conference, Israel Adesanya compared this fight to Eminem in the 8 Mile movie. He even used some lyrics his Oscar and Grammy-winning single “Lose Yourself.”

“I’m down two fights in kickboxing, one fight in MMA, so I’m down three, and this is like in every movie — your one shot. This is my Eminem moment, my ‘8 Mile‘ moment. You get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, this opportunity comes once in a lifetime, and this is it. This is it for me. Imagine what if I get it done!? What if I get it done better than he has ever done it. What if I butchered and beat the f–k out of him?!”

Album Review: Westside Boogie – “More Black Superheroes”

Westside Boogie – “More Black Super Heroes” – Album Review

Artist: Westside Boogie
Album: More Black Superheroes
Release date: June 17, 2022
Label: Shady Records
Genre: Hiphop/Rap
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✪☆ 8.5/10

Westside Boogie is an American rapper, songwriter, and Shady artist. Born as Anthony Dixon in 1990 in Compton, California. His sound is a product of his Westcoast roots. However, he’s known to be influenced by artists such as Jay-Z, Nas, and Lupe Fiasco, just to name a few. Boogie started rhyming words at the age of only 15 years old. Later on, he would attempt to balance his academic studies while honing his craft as an MC. It wasn’t until 2014 before Boogie started seeing any kind of recognition. It was in 2017 when he finally joined the Shady Records family and released his label debut “Everything’s For Sale” in 2019.

I wasn’t familiar with Boogie until he made his Eminem Connection in the late 2010s. Admittedly, I was very skeptical of him at first. He seemed like a strikingly odd artist to join Shady. I pegged Boogie as more of a Trap style, vibe focused artist. However, I couldn’t help but get filled with cautious excitement as we got closer to “Everything’s For Sale.” It turns out Boogie fits in just fine. Needless to say, I’ve been a big fan of him since, and now I anticipate everything he touches!

  1. KILLA MODE

Boogie opens the album with a very “I’m Done Giving Any Kind Of F*ck” tone, specifically when it comes to romantic relationships. It’s obvious he’s been burned before, and he’s letting us know he won’t be burned again. He’s showing us how he’s growing out of dating immature women as he gets older. “Showing you love, it ain’t playing it smart Covered in blood while I’m hanging with sharks”.

  1. STUCK

This track is portraying the internal struggle Boogie’s having with rising into fame without being able to let go of habits he developed during his rough upbringing. There’s 2 sides to the token tough. He doesn’t want to forget who he is, even if he doesn’t have to live that life anymore. The haunting production adds layers to Boogie’s punchy, introspective lyrics. With this track, Boogie is also doing a great job exploring the nuances of struggling with communication in a relationship. When every line is telling the listener at least 2 things, it’s creating a much stronger narrative. It’s storytelling 101. Despite the fairly heavy subject matter, “STUCK” is still a banger due to the sharp piano loop and Boogie’s charismatic flow. The depth, vulnerabilities, and honesty create a lot of replay value for fans, while the production should provide multiple listens if you’re throwing this into a playlist.

  1. NONCHALANT (Ft. Mamii)

“NONCHALANT” is easily one of the most sonically pleasing and addictive tracks on the album. The softer production helps to showcase Boogie’s impressive lyrical ability and smooth flow. With the beat being so laid-back, I can’t help but be reminded of his California roots. It also provides a perfect backdrop for him to effortlessly deliver emotional verses while painting a vivid picture. The song’s hook is provided by the gifted Mamii, who adds soulfulness to the track, balancing out Boogie’s somewhat raspy vocals. She’s the sweet to his salty. The two artists together add a unique dynamic to the song’s overall sound. This is the kind of track that I could imagine playing in the background of a summer night’s porch-lit dinner while on vacation.

  1. LOLSMH II

With this track, Boogie is expressing his frustration with being a person who has a lot of people who depend on him. He’s doing everything he can to keep up his Superman image. The problem is that even superheroes sometimes need saving. I think it’s a metaphor for the idea that you shouldn’t bottle up your pain and try to pretend it’s not there. If you can never vent to anyone, you’re going to blow up eventually. Boogie is hitting us once again with that signature punctual flow with controlled aggression. As the track starts taking a darker turn, the beat switches, and so does Boogie’s Psyche. Calling back to that same “I’m Done Giving a F*ck” attitude, Boogie snaps and starts getting everything off his chest as he peels back painful truths. From here, we get some incredibly unvarnished glimpses into some of his darker thoughts and fears. I highly recommend this one for fans of good old-fashioned beat switches and authentic stories.

  1. CAN’T EVEN LIE (Featuring Soulja Boy)

I can’t even lie, I’m really confused as to why Souja Boy; of all people, is featured in the middle of a relationship track on a Boogie album. The track is exploring the complex art of being a womanizer by default, but ironically wanting a serious relationship. It’s not possible, and while Boogie understands that, he’s not sure how to correct it. Honestly, this track feels a little bit like filler to me. Boogie only has 1 verse. The hook is pretty repetitive, and Souja Boy (yes, really) is giving a passable yet vague verse. We had enough relationship tracks on the album already, I’m not sure why this unfinished feeling, hallow cut, was left in the mix. Overall, it’s a decent track with nothing offensively wrong with it. It’s just the weakest of the mix so far.

  1. PRIDEFUL II

This was the first track I heard from the album. It’s the big lead single that blew up, rightfully. Without hearing the album, this comes off as a really slick, smooth banger. It’s a really easy earworm that you can mix into just about any playlist. It’s probably the most accessible track on the album. Once you hear the track within the context of the album, though, it actually makes more sense. It shows him in a confident stance but in a much more self-respectful way. It continues to stick closely to the album’s theme.

  1. AIGHT

This is a track that casual listeners probably heard first. It’s the one that gets the most radio play, but that doesn’t mean it’s a hip-pop; far from it. It gets played on the cool radio stations. That said, the beat is addictively catchy, complimented by a  somewhat sinister backdrop. As far as the album goes so far, the lyrics are pretty straightforward here. Boogie is just acknowledging the fact that he’s a rising star and he’s here to stay. This shows a strong level of ambition, especially for a relatively laid-back track. Whether someone enjoys this track or not will depend on if they’re cool with a simplified single right in the middle of the tracklist.

  1. CAN’T GET OVER YOU (Featuring Smino & Teego Touchdown)

I can’t get over the strings that Boogie keeps adding into these songs! Boogie opens up with some sort of whispery singing that’s been filtered through some sort of rebar effect. It totally works for the emotional point he appears to be going for. It’s another breakup song with delightfully somber production. The overall atmosphere is pretty melancholic yet somehow uplifting in a strange way. I’m sure most people can relate to the feeling of trying to get over an ex-partner. There’s a lot of emotions, but eventually, you’ll probably see the silver linings in the situation.

  1. RATCHET BOOGIE (INTERLUDE)

Coming off the last track, this one perfectly portrays the feeling once you’ve been able to climb back up after a bad breakup. There’s definitely some “I Didn’t Need That B*tch Anyway” energy here. The lyrics are rapid-fire and confident for the short duration of the interlude. This is Boogie at his most self-respectful. You can almost hear the smile on his face once he lets everything go.

  1. SOMETHIN STRANGE (Featuring Kalan.Fr.Fr & Mamii)

The cohesiveness from track to track on this album is impressive. Once again, this track spins off the previous one and maintains a similar but different enough sound. It opens up almost Gospelly. Boogie’s echoey singing is angelic and super sunny. Unfortunately, this is the first track where I think the feature makes it worse. KalanFr.Fr’s trappy, mumbling, verse really didn’t match this track sonically at all. There’s a time and a place for new-age trap flows, but it’s not here. It’s like somebody accidentally turned the angelic hip-hop choir station off and switched it to the generic new-school station. Thankfully, that only lasts about 30 seconds before switching back to Boogie.

  1. WINDOWS DOWN (Featuring Snoop Dogg)

If I said this track started with the lyrics “Roll The Windows Down, So Much Smoke, Let It All Roll Out,” who would you think is featured? You guessed it, Boogie said the right words to summon our Lord And Ganja Savoir, Snoop Dogg. Starting with Boogie, I think you might actually be getting his best verse on this track. He puts everything he has into it by relying on a dynamic flow and confident lyrics. It comes together so defiantly and sets the stage perfectly for Snoop to jump in. Snoop gives one of his best verses in a long time, too! We’re getting that classic chill Snoop delivery, but he also switches his flow a few times pretty effortlessly. Put Snoop on a juicy beat and make Marijuana the subject, then you’ve got the recipe for a hit. If the track didn’t do enough already, there’s a crazy beat switch towards the end. Boogie comes back one more time for an anxiety driven, panicky verse that leads to either a figurative or metaphorical crash. This is easily one of the best tracks on the album.

  1. ANTHONY (WAR)

As we get to the closing track, it’s important to look back at everything we’ve heard so far. The album began in a very dark, even mean-spirited mindset. As we get further along, Boogie goes through a lot of internal self-growth and finding himself. Just as he begins to accept himself and see things in a positive light, things are interrupted by a soul-crushing car crash. This “ANTHONY (WAR)” track is very cleverly mirroring everything we’ve heard so far. Admirably, it’s once again cohesively picking up where the previous track left off. It’s a realistic representation of a person slipping back into their old habits due to old mental scars. A great day can be interrupted by an unexpected car crash.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Since Boogie’s 2019 album “Everything’s For Sale,” he’s really shown a massive amount of growth in not just his rapping but a newfound creativity in crafting a cohesive project. Front to back, the entire “More Black Superheroes” album sticks to a very tight concept. Aside from a few weak features here and there, everything fits perfectly together in a precise order. Boogie has shown that honesty is a superpower that can be both a blessing and a curse. It’s a dangerous tool in the wrong hands. This album is a lesson about being true to yourself and true to others. Don’t try to be the hero if you can’t get past your own demons.

Eladio Carrión talks how Eminem influenced him as a writer

Eladio Carrión, rapper and singer of Latin trap and reggaeton, has recently dropped by the neighborhood to speak with Big Boy about working with 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Bad Bunny, and Future on his new album 3MEN2 KBRN.

He also talked his professional swimming career, switching from comedy to music, losing his dog, and his upcoming performance at Coachella.

At one point of the interview, Eladio Carrión spoke how Eminem and 50 Cent influenced his writing style: “I have always loved to rhyme. I am big Eminem fan and Lil Wayne and 50 Cent. So, I always had that curiosity for clever wordplay…I always thought, like Eminem, how can I do music like him and make people feel it. Em, 50, Wayne showed me how to write rap. And Kanye West was the first rapper who made me feel the beat.”

This is not the first time Eladio Carrión gave Eminem his flowers. Last year, during the conversation with XXL magazine, the Puerto Rican artist revealed that Nas and Slim Shady introduced him to rap: “When I was like, in the first grade, I’d be hearing 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Nas, Eminem’s Curtain Call. Jay-Z, Big L. I was introduced to hip-hop very early. Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, all of that. my favorite rappers like Big Sean, Lil Wayne, Eminem, 50, each of those rappers taught me something. Like 50 Cent, he taught me the importance of feeling sure about yourself when you rap. Eminem taught me about deliveries and wordplay. Big Sean also, his delivery and wordplay is crazy. Lil Wayne, you don’t have to wait every four bars to do a punch line. You could do a punch line every bar. Every bar there could be a punch line.”
