J. Cole reveals an actually reason why he pulled out of the Kendrick Lamar rap battle and addresses Drake on the new song “Port Antonio.”
“Protectin’ legacies, so lines got crossed, perhaps regrettably/My friends went to war, I walked away with all they blood on me,” he raps on the DZL and Cole-produced track below. “Now some will discredit me, tryna wipe away my pedigree/But please, find a ni**a out that’s rappin’ this incredibly.”
“I pulled the plug because I seen where that was ’bout to go/They wanted blood, they wanted clicks to make they pockets grow,” Cole rhymes. “They see this fire in my pen they think I’m dodging smoke/I wouldn’t have lost a battle, dawg, I would have lost a bro/And all for what?/Just to obtain some ol’ props from strangers that don’t got a clue what I been aiming fo’ since the age of 14/Jermaine is no king if that means I got to dig up dirt and pay a whole team of algorithm bot ni**as just to sway the whole thing on social media/Competing for your favorable memes.”
Cole also addresses Drake by name. “Hey Drake, you’ll always be my ni**a/I ain’t ashamed to say you did a lot fo’ me, my ni**a/F**k all the narratives/Tapping back into your magic pen is what’s imperative,” Cole instructs. Listen to the song below:
Former Shady Records soldier Ca$his drops “Femzino,” produced by Rikanatti, a diss-track aimed at Benzino after the former co-owner of The Source magazine namedropped him in his recent Eminem diss record “Rap Elvis.”
In “Rap Elvis,” Benzino raps: “Okay, you found 50, and you put on five Detroit ni–as / Rest in peace to the best one, the rest of them sound iffy / So let’s go down your stable (Okay) / Gunn left your label (Uh huh) / Benny left your label (That’s right) / Con’ left your label (Ah) / Royce left your label, Joe Budden left your label (Damn), Ortiz left your label, know Crooked I couldn’t save you (Nah), Yelawolf been out here floppin’ and where the hell Ca$his at though? (Where he at?) Heard from Obie Trice only twice and not a word from Stat Quo (Not a word) With all them false lines that you pitched them / Shady Records sound like less of a name and more like a description (Stop it).”
Ca$his replied ‘Zino on Instagram, sharing a snippet of his and Eminem song 2007 song “Pistol Popin”. In the caption, he wrote: “Tell that little goofy man I’m on my way since he wanna know where I’m at..,” teasing a diss-track.
The song is now premiered exclusively on our channel. In the song, name-drops Benzino’s daughter Coi Leray with the following lines: “Sorry Coi, but your dad is f–king a ni–a,” claiming that Benzino is gay. He also namedropped Charlamagne Tha God: “F–k you over and let Charlamagne play that s–t.” The beat samples “War With God,” by Ludacris, a diss record to T.I.. You can bump the disstrack below!
Skylar Grey has released an instrumental lofi album titled “Chill Vibes with Skylar Grey,” in collaboration with Nom De Plume.
Lo-fi is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Lo-fi began to be recognized as a style of popular music in the 1990s, when it became alternately referred to as DIY music (from “do it yourself”).
The new album includes her greatest hits, including tracks with Eminem: “Last One Standing,” “I Need A Doctor, “Love The Way You Lie,” “Leaving Heaven,” “Black Magic,” and “Walk On Water.”
Detroit’s own Hatch The Wiseguy and Shady Records publishing artist Astray have recently joined forces for a new single “Down TO Be Down,” and the music video came with it!
During a conversations with Southpawer, Hatch talked about the background of the single: “This song was originally an old idea we created when Astray and I first met years ago, but we never ended up releasing the song. Years later (2023), I rediscovered the track on an old hard drive, and it felt like the perfect time in my life to put something like this out.” he said.
Then he continued: “Astray and I discussed some new ideas and changed parts of the verses and the chorus. We then added some new instruments to the beat and I also added a bridge to update the overall sound and breathe new life into the concept.”
“Astray and I have collaborated for years, so our musical chemistry is natural and free-flowing. We trust one another’s opinions. There is a mutual respect between us as creatives.” he added.
The song is supposed to be the firs single off Hatch’s upcoming project with also features D12’s Bizarre and Kxng Crooked among others.
On the latest episode of REVOLT’s “Drink Champs,” hosted by N.O.R.E and DJ EFN, Joe Budden reflected on Slaughterhouse demise and the New York-bred rapper seemingly took full responsibility for their split.
“Come on, give me the blame; I’ll take it. I’ll take the blame. I ruined everything. Everything that you loved, I ruined that s–t. Even next to 10 years long of just stories and talking, hey, I did it. It was me. It was me!” said Joe Budden.
Then he continues: “I don’t know what was tremendous and what wasn’t but I think E1 [Entertainment] gave us an opportunity and I think Shady [Records] gave us an opportunity. I’m grateful for both. Like, which one was more lucrative, who knows. I don’t think our business was being done the right way at the time so I couldn’t say. We had four managers. That sounds like a mess. I did try to bring one person to manage the group’s entity at one point but that didn’t go well.”
Later on, N.O.R.E started talking about how Slaughterhouse was formed and reminded Joe Budden that him and Royce were dissing each other before joining forces in one group. On that, Joe replied: “You are conflating things. But I guess that’s true at different points. I did a record that was not the friendliest to Royce but I never put it out because him and I got cool and then it got leaked and then it was some back and forth going on. We squashed that and then I reached out for a verse. And that was a Slaughterhouse track. It was me, Royce, Crooked, Joell and Nino Bless. And the reaction was great. So we just kept it up. It was really as simple as that. We kept everybody from the song except Nino Bless. And shout out to him.”
Back in 2021, Lloyd Banks proved that the PLK title still sticks with Course Of The Inevitable album. The project marked his first solo studio album in 11 years and it boasted guest appearances from lyrical monsters: Freddie Gibbs, Benny The Butcher, Styles P and Roc Marciano.
The following year, The former G-Unit soldier returned with the sequel, Course Of The Inevitable 2. And once again, the album featured guest appearances from heavy hitters like Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine, Jadakiss, Dave East, Vado, and Tony Yayo.
Last week Lloyd Banks confirmed that he will complete the Course Of The Inevitable trilogy with the release of the third installment. He shared a trailer for his forthcoming project, Course Of The Inevitable 3: Pieces Of My Pain on his Instagram page: “When you look in the mirror, you are alone. No friends, no family. Just you,” he says.
Today, the New York emcee joined forces with legendary Method Man on the brand new single titled “101 Razors” which is the first taste of the upcoming album. You can bump the new track below:
Throughout the 5 seasons of the hit television series, “Breaking Bad,” we were introduced to countless iconic characters. Every character in the show was incredibly well-written and usually served as one of many cogs that advanced the plot further.
In case there was ever any doubt, it should be said that every member on our Southpawers team is a huge fan of the series and the characters it contained. The first character that comes to mind might be Walt, the scientist teacher that snaps (or “Breaks Bad”) and unleashes his evil, alter ego, Heisenberg. This may remind you of a certain Detroit battle rapper that sometimes lets his evil twin out of the box to do his evil deeds. This got some of our Southpawers writer’s wondering, “What if Shady Affiliates were Breaking Bad Characters”?
Walter White/Heisenberg Eminem/Slim Shady
Walter White is a perfectly normal guy on the surface, much like Eminem. However, once the Fedora or bleached blonde hair is applied, they become an evil version of themselves. This evil version serves as a vehicle they can use to blame for all their murders and misdeeds. Some could argue they’re stronger and more powerful when their bad half is in control. However, it’s usually at the cost of inflicting pain on anyone and everyone within the crossfire.
Skylar White Kim Mathers
The wives of both Eminem and Walt often disapprove of the way they choose to earn their money. Both on again and off again relationships, eventually wind up ending permanently with Walt/Eminem. The only difference is between divorce and death. The troubled relationships with their husbands both resulted in self sabotage. Kim would attempt to end her life via self-harm, while Skylar was shown smoking cigarettes while pregnant as a way to deal with the stress. The majority of both Eminem and Breaking Bad fans also seem to generally dislike each of the protagonist’s wives.
Saul Goodman Jimmy Iovine
They’re not usually directly involved in the front lines of any real action, but through wit and the will to survive, they seem to have a role in everyone’s business. Both men are very good at taking the bare materials they have, and finding a way to use them to their benefit in tight situations.
Mike Ehrmantraut Dr. Dre
Mike and Dre are both strictly business, at least on the surface. They both have a history of committing questionalnl, even criminal deeds, but mostly for the sake of supporting their family. Mike/Dre work very closely with Saul/Jimmy within the same business. They don’t always agree with each other, but they need each other to become Moguls in the Crime/Hip-Hop industry. Mike/Dre are also responsible for cleaning up the messes often made by Heisenberg/Slim Shady. Walt/Eminem always wanted to become as successful as Mike/Dre, no matter what they have to sacrifice to get there.
Gus Fring Paul Rosenberg
If it wasn’t for Gus Fring, Walter White would have never been able to make as much money in the business as he did. The same goes for Eminem needing Paul Rosenberg as his manager to take care of the business side of things. Both Gus and Paul are very smart men who know how to run a business, even if it means being a little shady sometimes. Deep down, both Gus and Paul have emotions, but the bottom line is, if it don’t make dollars, it don’t make sense.
Jesse Pinkman Proof (Of D12)
Jesse and Proof both came from the streets. Proof was running the streets of underground Detroit Hip-hop, while Jesse was well known in New Mexico for his “Chilly P” brand of methamphetamines. They were both masters of their craft, but didn’t break into fame until they teamed up with someone who balances them. Proof met Eminem who would help launch Proof into fame with the success of D12. Walter White helped Jesse perfect his formula and they built an methamphetamine empire together. In both cases, Proof and Jesse were doing well, but they needed to find someone with a similar skillset to maximize their full potential.
Badger Bizzare (Of D12)
Badger/Bizzare is a longtime friend of Jesse/Proof. They came up together in the rough streets of Albuquerque/Detroit. Badger/Bizzare are both known to be pretty unorthodox and strange individuals. One thing you have to give them credit for, though, is the strong loyalty they have for their friends. Until the very end, Badger can be seen providing a safe house for Jesse while he was on the run, being one of the most wanted criminals in the country. Badger even provided Jesse with a car while he was wanted by police. Bizzare is also known to always have his friend’s backs until the very end. Even very recently, Bizzare has shown support for Eminem during his beefs with Machine Gun Kelly and Lord Jamar. Despite D12 having disbanded years ago, Bizzare has shown that friends are forever.
I had a lot of fun writing this article, and I hope Southpawers enjoyed reading it just as much. This is just the beginning. We have tons of creative ideas just like this queued up and coming down the pipeline very soon. What Breaking Bad Characters do you think we should have included as Shady Affiliates? Let us know in the comments!
For the latest episode of Southpawdcast, we sat down with Detroit’s own Kid Vishis to talk about Nipsey Hussle, top 5 lists, Alien Gang, Idolizing rappers, Drake, getting motivation from Eminem and much more! You can watch the entire thing above!

Hopsin is back and he’s brining something new to the hip-hop world: Hop-Sinematic Universe which is inspired by one of the biggest composers and music-producers Hans Zimmer, legendary comic book writer and producer Stan Lee, actor and filmmaker Jordan Peele, Detroit’s own hip-hop icon Eminem and Dragon Ball Z creator Akira Toriyama.
In his latest post on Instagram, Panorama City, Los Angeles-born rapper who was heavily inspired by Slim Shady, writes:
“This is not the intro to an album. It is not a tour promo. The question is….What would creativity look like if you fused Hans Zimmer, Stan Lee, Jordan Peele, Eminem and Akira Toriyama (DBZ creator) together?
Then he continues: “I do not have the exact answer, but I want to represent the idea of what that answer could potentially be. I will not lie, Hip hop has become really boring to me. Everyone’s doing the same stuff, pretending to be overly cool in ways that are not true to their nature. We are all just copying everyone to remain “safe”. I have been guilty of it too. I do not want to be safe anymore. So I am going to create truly from the inner child within me, without feeling like I have to fit the mold of whatever a rapper “should be”.”
“I am finally becoming the creator that my mother knew I was destined to be as a child. In a couple weeks, I am dropping again. Welcome to the Hop-Sinematic Universe.” – Hopsin added.
After the announcement, Hop dropped the cinematic music video of his new song “Arrival.” You can watch it below:
Skylar Grey, who has originally wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s diamond selling single “Love The Way You Lie,” releases her own version of the song as a part three which will probably be included in her upcoming new project.
“This was by far the proudest moment of my career as a songwriter so far. Dropping this newly recorded version of Love The Way You Lie Part III on February 10th, 2023.” said Skylar last week.
Later, Skylar shared the Grammys certificate she received as the writer of the song. In the caption, she wrote: “Nostalgia is strong this week… Remembering the 3 Grammy nominations I got for “Love The Way You Lie,” as a songwriter for Song of the Year and Best Rap Song, and as a producer on Rihanna’s “Loud” album. I remember I was so bummed when we lost Song of the Year to “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum! (Great song though.) Can’t wait for you all to hear my 2023 recording of “Love The Way You Lie Part III” dropping this Friday!”
“Love the Way You Lie” is a song from Eminem’s 2010 album, Recovery. Skylar Grey wrote and recorded a demo of the song alongside the producer Alex da Kid when she felt she was in an abusive romantic relationship with the music industry. Eminem wrote the verses and chose Rihanna to sing the chorus, resulting in a collaboration influenced by their past experiences in difficult relationships.
Some of the biggest names in hip-hop have previously expressed that they do not care much about being recognized by the Grammys but some of them feel quit opposite. The latest hip-hop artist to speak out and express his frustrations is Snoop Dogg. Maybe the iconic rapper does not really care about it but he still raised an eyebrow on social media.
Snoop took to his Instagram to vent about the Recording Academy having never awarded him with a Gramophone throughout his impressive three decades career.
In the post, Uncle Snoop screenshotted a tweet that is listing the rappers with the most Grammy wins, which included JAY-Z and Kanye West with 24 each, Kendrick Lamar with 17 who has recently surpassed Eminem’s 15 wins and Pharrell with 13.
In the caption, Snoop Dogg reminded everyone that he has yet to join that winners list: “Snoop Dogg. 20 nominations. Zero wins,” he wrote along with a sarcastic emojis. You can check the post below:
Snoop Dogg has been nominated in several Grammys categories including Best Rap Song, Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. He has also earned two nods in the Album of the Year category thanks to his contributions to Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed album To Pimp a Butterfly and Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, while his Reincarnated LP was up for Best Reggae Album in 2014.
Meanwhile, his long-time friend and collaborator Dr. Dre, who is 7-time Grammy winner himself, was awarded with the Global Impact Award at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
