Marsha Ambrosius releases “Casablanco” album, produced by Dr. Dre

Yesterday, Aftermath/Interscope Records released Grammy-nominated soul icon Marsha Ambrosius ’ 4th solo studio album, titled CASABLANCO, which was executive produced by Dr. Dre. The duo set out to create a jazz album — but instead they made a genre-bending tour de force. A fusion of technical mastery and unbridled imagination, CASABLANCO is a mesmerizing portrait of two music icons at work.

To help sculpt the smoldering album, Ambrosius and Dr. Dre enlisted a super-team of creators from Aftermath: Focus…, Erik “Blu2th” Griggs, Dem Jointz, Phonix and DJ Khalil. Across studio sessions that began in 2021, the duo and their collaborators hit a creative apex, driving the sonics of what would become an exhilarating album.

Ambrosius gave fans tantalizing glimpses of CASABLANCO in the months before its release with the singles “The Greatest,” “One Night Stand,” and, most recently, “Greedy.”

From her time in R&B outfit Floetry to her solo career, Ambrosius has captured the imaginations of fans with her captivating voice and relatable lyrics. With singles like “Far Away,” “Run” and “Late Nights & Early Mornings,” she shared the raw, intoxicating feelings of loss, heartache and true connection. And that does not even begin to touch upon her important contribution as a songwriter, crafting tracks for the likes of Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, Solange and H.E.R. Now, with the arrival of CASABLANCO, Ambrosius embarks upon a thrilling new musical chapter that captures the full extent of her artistry.

Kendrick Lamar brings out Dr. Dre for “Still DRE,” “California Love” & “Not Like Us”

Kendrick Lamar truly delivered the performance of a lifetime.

Kendrick Lamar is coming off of a feud with Drake, and as you can imagine, fans around the world are hyped. Overall, Kendrick gave us some truly incredible diss tracks. Two of the best to come from the beef are “Euphoria” and “Not Like Us.” Tonight, K. Dot performed them both. He started his show with “Euphoria” and it was absolutely phenomenal performance. However, he eventually blew the roof of KIA Forum with his first-ever performance of “Not Like Us.” Of course, in the eyes of many, this is the song of the summer. Not to mention, Dr. Dre was the one to intro the song.

Fans had been wanting this ever since Kendrick’s “Pop Out” show had been announced a couple of weeks ago. Below, you can see the moment that Kendrick Lamar decided to perform the track. It was a moment that fans are going to remember forever, and many couldn’t believe they got to witness it live. However, Kendrick truly unloaded the clip tonight. In fact, he even performed “6:16 In LA,” which is a song fans didn’t really expect him to do.

This has been an incredible night of music. Earlier in the show, we got some music from some of the West Coast’s best artists. Furthermore, some bigger acts like Roddy Ricch, YG, and Tyler, the Creator got to come up on stage, even our man Westside Boogie was there! Overall, it was a great moment, and fans were treated to nothing but bangers. If you are a hip-hop fan, then you had to have loved every moment of this. Hopefully some day, Kendrick decides to do it all over again.

Yelawolf interpolates Eminem’s “The Way I Am” flow, shouts out Royce 5’9″, Dr. Dre, Slaughterhouse & Eminem

Former Shady Records artist Yelawolf releases “War Story,” a dynamic double album that unfolds in two distinct chapters: “Michael Wayne” and “Trunk Muzik 4ever”.

Side 1: Michael Wayne (song 1 – song 12) In the first installment, Yelawolf reunites with the acclaimed producer Malay, known for their previous collaboration on his 2015 Shady Records album “Love Story”. In the song titled “Legend,” entire second verse is dedicated to the list of artists Yelawolf has worked with over his entire career, even before being signed to Shady Records in 2011, giving shout out to Eminem, Dr. Dre, Royce 5’9″ and Slaughterhouse among others. In the album, there is another song called “Cars” where Yelawolf directly interpolates Eminem’s iconic “The Way I Am” flow.

Hardy covers Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre’s “Gin And Juice”

Hardy‘s mama ain’t home and that means it’s time to party. The Philadelphia, Mississippi-born country rock musician served up “Gin and Juice” with a twist on his newly-released cover of the Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s classic tune. The cover fuses country rock with California rap as Hardy lays out the itinerary for his night with the boys: roll down the street smoking indo, shoot some deer with the bullets filling up his pockets, and throw back some G&Js.

“A while back, I got a phone call saying that Jimmy Iovine, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg would like for me to record my own version of ‘Gin and Juice’ for the launch of their new drink, Gin&Juice,” Hardy shared in a statement. “I’m still in disbelief, but I am so stoked that I’m dropping my version of ‘Gin and Juice’ with the blessing of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg themselves. Thankful for the opportunity.”

On his Instagram post, Hardy captioned: “I’m still in disbelief, but I am so stoked to announce that I recorded my version of this classic record for the short film Gin and Juice with the blessing of @drdre and @snoopdogg themselves. Thankful for the opportunity. Song drops tonight at 11p CT. Enjoy @dreandsnoop.”

Hardy kept the structure of “Gin and Juice” as a foundation for his own spin on it, which name dropped some friends and flipped Snoop Dogg’s “Gs up, hoes down while you motherf–kers bounce to this” with “Gs up, h-es down while you rednecks bounce to this.” In this version, the drink Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre took in the middle of the street is now swallowed down on an old back road, but his mind is still on his money and his money is still on his mind.

Hardy will explore more of this rock sound — and potentially less of the rap sound — on his as-yet-untitled forthcoming studio album. Two songs from the record, including “Rockstar” and “Quit,” have already been released. Earlier this year, Hardy performed at the Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace Big Game After Party at Encore Beach Club inside Wynn Las Vegas. Dr. Dre jokes about Stevie Wonder’s blindness after meeting him

Dr. Dre has cracked a joke about Stevie Wonder being blind after meeting the iconic musician. Making a very rare post on Instagram, Dr. Dre posted a picture of himself and Stevie Wonder with the caption: “Just bumped into my hero and every musician’s favorite, Stevie Wonder… Stevie said ‘It’s good seeing you.’”

The joke went over well on social media, with Flavor Flav commenting: “[face with tears of joy Emojis] he always say the same to me, that’s my guy.” 2 Chainz also wrote: “Haha man hell naw Killa.” Busta Rhymes also commented crown and laughing emojis. N.O.R.E replied “[face with tears of joy Emojis] I knew he could see.” Aftermath producer Fredwreck wrote Smiling Face with Sunglasses emojis.

Dr. Dre previously revealed that he turned down the chance to work with the “Superstition” legend despite the fact he idolizes the musician. Speaking to Kevin Hart for his Hart to Heart podcast, Dre said their paths crossed when he needed a sample cleared by Wonder. “So I’m workin’ on an album with Marsha Ambrosius. She’s amazing,” he said. “We did a song using Stevie Wonder’s music, and he had to clear it. And he called me up, ‘Yo, Dre’ — for some reason, Stevie Wonder calls you like super early in the morning, like six, seven in the morning or something. Like, just ’cause you can’t see the time.”

He continued: “True story. [He was like], ‘I don’t like the lyrics. I don’t like the lyrics, Dre.’ Okay, we went in and changed the lyrics. What the f–k is the difference? Like 5 a.m. or 5 p.m. for Stevie? So this s–t happened.” Dre added he had another phone call with Wonder after they made the changes and the prospect of them working together came up. “He called me back like, ‘Okay, Dre. Now I like the lyrics. Why don’t we work together and just write a song together?’” he remembered. “[I was like], ‘Yeah. Alright. Alright, Stevie,’ and yeah… I didn’t show up. “What the f–k am I gonna do in the studio with Stevie Wonder? Huh? Touch the drums? No. Touch the keyboard? No. What the f–k? Nah. I went that way.”

Wallie the Sensei emerged as the new face of Compton hip-hop with his 2020 single “Scandalous,” where he offsets grim gangsta narratives with silky-smooth production and an elastic, irresistibly melodic flow. He has recently sat down with Bootleg Kev where he described meeting Eminem and Snoop Dogg in Dr. Dre’s house and witnessing the three hip-hop titans recording couple of tracks together.

“I just f–king met Eminem, Dr. Dre and Snoop. I went to Dre house for a day and I got to sit in the session and watch them work. Bro, that was the dopest s–t I’ve ever seen. When I met Em, he was like ‘Marshall’, I’m like, bro, I know who you are. You are one of the best rappers ever.” said Wallie the Sensei.

Then he continued: “Now I understand why they call Dre Dr. Dre. The s–t that he do in the studio he really doctor them songs. He might be the coldest to ever do it. How did I get the invite? One of my homies is related to Dre and since I got s–t buzzing, he was like ‘I gotta get you over there’. Dre’s house is co comfortable I fell asleep for hours.”

“Super Fly” by Curtis Mayfield is my favorite album of all time. I’ve been listened to his songs my entire life. But I have different outlook on why the artists from 60s and 70s have changed. I think the technology enabled artist to be a lot more creative because when 70s came in that’s when you started having multi-tracks. Marvin Gaye was able to do all of his own backgrounds. Imagine his any album in 70s without him doing his own backgrounds and there being background singers doing it, it would not be the same. So many multi-tracks came in 70s that’s when the real creativity in music started happening. In 80s it got a lot more pop. Michael Jackson and Prince. It got more pop but still fantastic music. But, in my opinion, the 70s is when it really made that switch and turn to be in really creativity. That’s why I always go to 70s music, especially soul music to get that inspiration.

Dr. Dre about his favorite records and discovering new talents
Everybody ask me what is your favorite record. I always say that the next one. All the music that I recorded in my career, I started recording in 1985, I feel like, maybe 20-30% of the music I record has come out. My music is not for everybody. I just love recording. It’s for my friends, family and really just for me. I like discovering new talents. That’s one of the reasons why we sitting here right now. Cause I saw you on Instagram and I was like how this young woman have this library of music in her head. I was like ‘I wanna meet her and have conversation.’ I’m pushing 40 years of my career right now and there’s just few artists that I’ve worked with were established. Those being 2Pac, Mary J. Blige and Busta Rhymes. Those are the only artists that I worked with in my entire career that were already established. I like working with new up and coming talent.

Dr. Dre is currently working on Snoop Dogg’s “The Missionary” album. As Snoop revealed couple of weeks ago, Dre will start mixing the record in the middle of April. Terence Crawford hangs out with Eminem, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg as Dr Dre is honored in Hollywood

Terence Crawford was out in Hollywood on March 19 night to celebrate legendary Dr. Dre getting a star on the coveted Walk of Fame. The former two-weight undisputed champion took star-studded photo shots with Eminem, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg as they showed up to support the iconic rapper and producer on his very special day.

“Major congratulations @drdre on your Hollywood Star. Honored to have been a part of your special day today. Long overdue and very well deserved.” Captioned Crawford on Instagram. Crystina Poncher, international play-by-play commentator and host for Top Rank Boxing and ESPN replied: “Ok this pic is GOATED! I don’t even care if that’s not a real word, it’s what it is!” King Iso, Nebraska rapper who currently is signed to Tech N9ne’s label Strange Music, replied with “GOATs” emojis.

Dr Dre is a long-time supporter of Crawford’s. Ahead of his WBO welterweight title defense fight against ‘Mean Machine’ Egidijus Kavaliauskas back in 2019, the Top Rank cameras captured a Facetime conversation between Crawford and the hip-hop icon. “Hey man, I just wanted to say I’m a super fan and I’ve been following your career for a long time. I respect you man and I love what you’re doing. Everything about you is fire.” said Dre.

Eminem is also a fan of Crawford. Last summer Slim Shady was in Las Vegas to walk boxer Terence Crawford to the ring for his title fight against Errol Spence Jr. “Las Vegas, make some noise for the next undisputed welterweight champion of the world, Terence “Bud” f–king Crawford,” Eminem yelled to the star-filled crowd as the signature beats of his 8 Mile hit “Lose Yourself” filled the T-Mobile Arena.

Following his victory, Crawford told Showtime about how he managed to get Eminem to be his hype man, saying he simply DM’d the rapper. “I throw a rock in a haystack and he replied, I told him to pull up, and he said, ‘I’m there. You’re one of my favorite fighters,’” Crawford said. “That showed a lot of support for me, and that showed what level I’m at in the boxing world.”

Canadian actor, Devon Sawa best known for his roles in Little Giants, Casper, Now and Then, Wild America, Idle Hands, Final Destination, Nikita and portraying the title character of the Eminem music video “Stan,” featuring Dido, has recently reacted to Dr. Dre’s iconic moment in Hollywood.

The original Stan posted a picture of Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent posing in front of Dre’s WOF star on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Telling my grandkids that these guys invented music.” One of the fans replied: “They basically did at this rate lmao, most of that 50 years of hip hop stemmed from Dre.” Another said: “I’m going to tell human beings @DevonESawa is the hero on the cover of a pulp magazine in the real world.”

This week, Dr. Dre was chosen to be honored with 2,775th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Compton legend received the honor on 6840 Hollywood Boulevard, just in front of Jimmy Kimmel Studios. He received his star in the category of music recording. Fellow hip-hop icons Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Xzibit and music mogul Jimmy Iovine also joined emcee Big Boy, who was a speaker at the ceremony.

After getting a star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame, Dr. Dre sat down with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent where the legendary hip-hop producer talked about Snoop Dogg’s upcoming album, Eminem’s upcoming album, making of “Get Rich Or Die Tryin‘” and “Forgot About Dre” and more. The crew also did “Dre’s Anatomy” sketch for JKL.

Usually, the track is laid out [before the lyrics]. Every now and then artist comes in with the lyrics first and that has only happened couple of times in my career. One time it was with Eminem on a song called “Forgot About Dre.” Eminem wrote that. He had the entire song written before the track so we had to make the track work for his lyrics. He wrote that entire song.

Let me take it from here. As long as we’ve been known each other…The first album I’ve done with Snoop was in 1993. And it’s the only album I ever produced on Snoop. 30 years ago, so now, believe it or not, we are getting together again and we are almost done with the album. The first album was called “Doggystyle” so we decided to flip it and call this one “Missionary.” [Snoop Dogg added: “It’s gonna come out. Dr. Dre will begin mixing in mid April.”]

50 Cent: Dre is complete inspiration for me. I’ve been listening to his music before it was even a serious idea for me to get next to him. And when I got to the studio, even our first record, it was four days, I think we did eight joints…
Dr. Dre: No, it was seven days. Okay, let me tell you the story. Let me interrupt 50 for a second. So, I did “Get Rich Or Die Tryin'” and it was supposed to be me producing half of the album and Eminem producing the other half. I was in the studio with 50 for just seven days of my entire half of the album. He came in there and went crazy. Writing, alright put up another one, writing, put up another one and we got entire thing done in seven days. At least my half. That’s what happened.

50 Cent reveals he’s featured on “The Missionary” album
I got one with Snoop. I’ll tell you how that works. I get text message from Dre, I get text message from Em almost simultaneously and it goes like ‘stop what you doing, I don’t care if you producing television shows, I don’t care what you doing, stop and figure out how to get this done for us right now because it’s that urgent.’ And then I went and wrote my part. When I get it done, I sent it back and I get fire emojis back cause Dre usually don’t say things.

Jimmy Kimmel gets embarrassing help from Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent & Snoop Dogg in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ parody

Last night, after Dr. Dre was awarded with the star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame, the iconic producer joined Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live with other hip-hop icons Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent. And he marked the occasion with parody of ABC’s popular TV show “Grey’s Anatomy” starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Eminem, titled “Dre’s Anatomy”

The sketch featured Jimmy Kimmel getting some humiliating help from the hip-hop legends (which mainly involves jokes about the size of his p-nis). The scene saw Kimmel wheeled into the ER where Dr. Dre diagnosed him as not having a p-nis. Dre then called in “Dr. Broadus” AKA Snoop Doggy Dogg, who wasn’t able to see until Dre handed him a magnifying glass.

At this point they called in a specialist, “Dr. Jackson,” and 50 Cent came out. “What do you think,” Dre asked as 50 Cent pulled out a giant telescope. After looking, 50 smirked and sighed. “Sorry,” he said to Kimmel. After an amazed reaction by Snoop, Dre opted to remove the offending organ — while receiving unhelpful directions from Snoop. “It looks like a piece of bubble gum,” Snoop said. “Guys, could you put that back? I came in for a colonoscopy,” Kimmel said. “I don’t know what’s going on here but I, maybe I’ll come back later? Tomorrow or something?”

“Relax, nephew,” Snoop said before putting an anesthetic face mask on Kimmel that was very obviously dispensing weed smoke. This sent Kimmel into a weird medical state as his heart rate elevated — but alas, the beeping of the EKG sounded like the opening notes of Dre’s hit song “Still” and the three rappers started performing instead. Which killed Kimmel. Rest in peace! The bit ended with a joke about how the show just before “Dre’s Anatomy” is called “EM” — starring Eminem. Watch the video clip above now.

Last time Eminem dropped the full body of work was more than 4 years ago. Em dropped his 11th solo studio album Music to Be Murdered By on January 17, 2020, through Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records. Just like Eminem’s previous studio album Kamikaze (2018), the album was released with no prior announcement. The album was produced by many producers, with Eminem and Dr. Dre serving as executive producers. It features guest appearances from Skylar Grey, Young M.A, Royce da 5’9″, White Gold, Ed Sheeran, the late Juice WRLD, Black Thought, Q-Tip, Denaun, Anderson .Paak, Don Toliver, Kxng Crooked and Joell Ortiz.

Subsequently, Eminem became the first artist to have ten consecutive number-one albums in the US and one of six artists to have released at least ten US number-one albums. Music to Be Murdered By reached number one in 16 countries. Music critics praised Eminem’s lyrical abilities and the improved production after Kamikaze, while criticism was directed towards the album’s formulaic song structure, lack of innovation, and shock value.

On December 18, 2020, Eminem released a deluxe version of the album, named Music to Be Murdered By – Side B, without any prior announcement. It includes the original album’s 20 tracks along with 16 new ones.
