Skylar Grey: “Eminem’s praise is the Grammy to me”

In a recent interview on Shade 45, Eminem highly praised his long time collaborator, Skylar Grey’s talent.

I have had the privilege of working around a lot talents. Sometimes when I am working with Dre and I am looking at Dre like you are f**kin Dr. Dre. Skylar is one of them, she is definitely, she has to be, I don’t know how to say this Top 5 of the most talented people I have ever worked with but I have worked with so many talented people but the rate of speed that she works at. A being able to write it and B being able to sing it and to sing it that powerful, she is an amazing talent.” said Eminem

Upon hearing, Skylar responded Eminem on Instagram: “I am extremely humbled by the words mister Mathers speaks in the recent interview he did on Shade 45. Part of me is embarrassed for reposting this because it is such a flex and that is not usually my style! But a bigger part of me wants to scream at the top of my lungs, “I DID IT!” There is no more feeling more fulfilling than for the people you admire most to show you this kind of respect… to me THIS is “making it,” THIS is success in the music industry… and THIS is my Grammy. I do not need any trophies… the Rap God has given me something MUCH more valuable. And I feel so incredibly blessed and grateful.

Skylar Grey pens heartfelt letter to Eminem on her Instagram

Skylar Grey has a very heartful message to Eminem following the success of “Black Magic” song from the deluxe edition of Music To Be Murdered By: Side B.

Even though the song is not a single, it was the highest charting song from the album on iTunes, after “GNAT” single.

On her Instagram, Skylar Grey expressed her gratitude to his mentor, Eminem:

“Because of “Black Magic,” my Spotify surpassed 4 million monthly listeners today. Which is double what it was just a couple weeks ago. I want to take this moment to publicly express my gratitude for Marshall and everything he has done for me in the past ten years.”

“When Marshall cut “Love The Way You Lie,” my career was suddenly on fire. And he could have stopped there. But he did not. “Black Magic” is the 14th song we have worked on together. Over the years he has continued to include me in projects, bring me on tour, and show me tons of support. Even when other people gave up on me, he never did. Even after I parted ways with Interscope Records, he still believed in me.

“To me, Eminem is beyond a collaborator, a mentor, or a friend. He is family. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU Marshall… for all of the incredible opportunities, and for always having my back… I am forever indebted to you. Love you so much homie.” – says Skylar

Skylar Grey says Eminem raps about her on “Black Magic”

Eminem’s new album, the deluxe edition of Music To Be Murdered By: Side B, includes a song “Black Magic,” featuring Skylar Grey, produced by Eminem, Skylar Grey and Jayson DeZuzio.

Yesterday, Skylar went on Genius to annotate Eminem’s lyrics. Skylar annotated last lines where Eminem raps:

“I must be under her spell
It’s like lookin’ right into a gun barrel
But none of these hoes can f**k with my girl
She got that black magic…”

On which, Skylar said: “Yeah, he’s talkin about me 😜,” meaning the whole song is about her. But of course, she’s joking. You can check the annotation below:

Elliott Taylor tells inspiring story behind Eminem & Skylar Grey’s “Black Magic”

“Leaving Heaven,” Skylar Grey jumps on a song with Eminem on “Black Magic” from the deluxe edition of Music To Be Murdered By: Side B, produced by Skylar Grey and Jayson Dezuzio.

Skylar Grey’s fiancé, Elliott Taylor, who is also a musician, told a little inspiring story behind the song and shared super demo version of the track on Instagram.

“Straight up, the song “Black magic” by Eminem and Skylar Grey was started on an out of tune broken guitar, in a 400 square feet home with a shitty overheating laptop on a two feet shelf studio. Here is the first voice note of us free-styling high as f**k. Swipe right to feel the vibes. Never give up on your dreams fam. The greatest things in this world all start off like a s**tty design on a bar napkin. You just gotta try, and then keep trying.” says Elliott.
