Akademiks responds Billboard with his top 10 rappers of all time

If there is a media personality who is going to go hard for Eminem it’s DJ Akademiks. But surprisingly, in his tweet of top 10 rappers of all time, the Jamaica-born DJ gave Em his flowers.

Akademiks has been throwing shades at Slim Shady for a minute now. Back in 2018, He even received Eminem’s attention when Akademiks called “Revival” album trash and the Detroit legend dropped “Kamikaze” album.

On a track titled “Fall,” Eminem raps: “Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it / Or have his body bag get zipped / The closest thing he’s had to hits is smackin’ bi—es (Pump it up!) And don’t make me have to give it back to Akademiks / Say this s–t is trash again, I’ll have you twisted / Like you had it when you thought you had me slippin’ at the telly (Yeah) / Even when I’m gettin’ brain, you’ll never catch me with a thot.”

Last year, during the conversation with Adin Ross, Akademiks once again discredited Eminem when Adin declared Em as the greatest rapper of all time. “Eminem versus Drake or Lil Wayne? Are you kidding me ni**a? Adin you f**kin stupid ni**a? Kanye West will also wash that ni**a. What you gonna play? Lose Yourself ni**a? Or Till I Collapse? Get the hell outta here! Kanye is stepping on Eminem, Drake is stepping on Eminem, Lil Wayne is stepping on Eminem. Future not washing Eminem?!?!” he said.

In response to Billboard/Vibe magazine’s top 50 greatest rappers of all time, Akademiks has recently shared his own top 10 and surprisingly placed Eminem at No. 6. In the caption, he wrote: “Forget what Billboard talkin bout.. here is my list of the Top 10 Rappers (based on bars, songs.. not cultural influence or artistry (so no kanye no pac).” Check Akademik’s top 10 rappers of all time below:

Billboard and Vibe magazines released a joint list of the best emcees of all time in honor of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. Top ten from the list were unveiled on 8 February, with crowning Jay-Z as the greatest rapper of all time. Jigga is followed by Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Tupac and Eminem at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.

Astray recalls getting signed by Eminem

Back in 2015, Eminem’s The Shady Music Publishing roster got bigger with the addition of Saginaw, Michigan rapper who goes by the name Astray. According to the multiple reports, he was once an intern at Eminem’s recording studio. Astray made the announcement via his official social media accounts and was later congratulated by Slim Shady’s long-time friend and manager, Paul Rosenberg on Twitter.

“ANNOUNCEMENT!! After countless meetings, conference calls, and contract drafts, it is finally 100% official. I am extremely pleased/blessed/thankful to say that I just signed a deal with SHADY MUSIC PUBLISHING/UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP!! I am very excited to be working with these two titans in the music industry and can’t wait to show you what we do from here!! I would like to thank my brother “DRO” for putting me and my music in all the right places and believing in me. I would also like to thank PAUL ROSENBERG for giving me this huge opportunity to better my life and showcase my music on a worldwide scale. Thanks to my brother Nic Spaulding. We started this musical journey quite a long time ago and I swear we’ve been through it all. It feels great to see one of the main goals we had finally being achieved. Last but not least, thank you to all the fans and supporters through the years that made it easy to keep going and never give up. I love y’all. Couldn’t wait till 3pm.” said Astray on Facebook.

“Pleased to welcome our new writer ASTRAY to Shady Music Publishing with UMP. Keep an eye out for him!” Paul tweeted. Later in his tweet, the Michigan emcee also cleared things up by clarifying that he is signed to Shady Music Publishing and Universal Music Group not Shady Records label. Eminem’s publicist Dennis Dennehy told MLive that the deal means “they are going to work with him on songs.”

Yesterday Astray shared “Give Me Five Minutes” freestyle and in the caption he wrote: “Eminem reached back into Detroit and signed this guy, Astray!” One of the fans commented: “What I’m confused about is you got signed a few years ago to the publishing deal. But I haven’t heard anything since. But Em put Royce and Slaughterhouse, Griselda etc on a pedestal,” on which ASTRAY replied: “Yeah I got signed as a songwriter/producer not as an artist. But he signed me nonetheless ya dig?”

Weather forecaster using Eminem lyrics goes viral

Creative meteorologist named Adam Krueger interpolated lyrics by Eminem into a local weather report in Houston, Texas. The chief meteorologist at CW39 Houston, Krueger has been having fun with various rappers’ lyrics in his forecasts as of late. When a fan on TikTok challenged him to use Slim Shady’s lyrics, Adam quickly accepted it – resulting in lines from both “The Real Slim Shady” and “Without Me” being snuck into the broadcast.

“One last dry day, but guess who’s back, back again? Rain is back, tell a friend,” Krueger said while referencing Eminem’s 2002 hit song “Without Me,” from The Eminem Show album.

For his bars from “The Real Slim Shady,” off The Marshall Mathers LP album, Krueger said, “You’re probably thinking, ‘Oh wait, no wait – you’re kidding. He didn’t just say what I think he did, did he?’” as he spoke about an incoming cold front. The video has collected more than half million likes and around 5 million views on TikTok.

Eminem files opposition against “Reasonably Shady” podcast

According to the docs obtained by Page Six, On February 14, 2023 Eminem filed an opposition against Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon’s trademark application for “Reasonably Shady,” the name of their new podcast.

In the documents, the Detroit legend says he believes his brand will be “damaged” if the “Real Housewives of Potomac” stars are issued the trademark for their broadcast

He also said “Reasonably Shady” may “cause confusion in the minds of consumers,” who have known him by his alter ego Slim Shady or just Shady since the late ’90s.

Eminem has exclusively used the name “Slim Shady” and “Shady” for entertainment services since 1998 and owns the trademark for “Shady” to use on merchandise.

Slim Shady‘s objection came few weeks after Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon filed to trademark their podcast’s name, which garnered over 5 million downloads since 2021, with the intent to begin selling merch — such as lip gloss, water bottles, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, and socks.

Bleu Davinci says he tried to sign Eminem before Dr. Dre deal

Bleu Davinci has recently sat down with Cam Capone News where Los Angeles, California rapper revealed that he was trying to get Eminem signed before his mega Dr. Dre deal.

“I brought Slim Shady tape to my mama. Anybody asked Jewish man Andrew Shaq, I brought that Eminem tape before Dr. Dre signed him. Me and Rass Kass finna go to New York and just came from Maritime Hall in the bay and I just watched Eminem performing for the first time. Blew my f–king mind.” – said Bleu Davinci.

Then he continues: “I took that tape back and took it straight to the head of AR Andrew Shaq. He was the ni–a who signed ni–as. He was just doing Rhyme Or Reason soundtracks. He was in the middle of making Rhyme Or Reason soundtrack when I brought him Eminem tape. You all look up the dates ni–a. See if the album Rhyme Or Reason came out the same year that Eminem got signed!”

“We were going to New York for three months. 90 days. And by the time we got back that ni–a Andrew Shaq called me to his office and he was like ‘you motherf–er, Dr. Dre just signed that kid and that tape is still in my deck you left here before you all went on the road. Dr. Dre signed him, why didn’t you tell me?!’ I said ‘I did tell you mothef–ker. He’s the hardest motherf–kin’ white boy I’ve ever seen rapping in my life that’s why I brought it in here.’ But I was 16. They were not respecting my gangster status. I was a kid. ‘This guy bring here a demo tape, get the f–k out of here. I’m doing big business. F–k outta here little 16-year old.’ That’s how they looked at me.” – Davinci added.

Criminal defendant requests Eminem to be his lawyer

Welcome to a legal case that will leave Stans scratching their heads. In this captivating video, Law Talk With Mike delves into the unusual and fascinating story of a criminal defendant who is requesting none other than Eminem as his counsel. Yes, you heard that right – the iconic Detroit rapper is being sought after as a legal representative.

I would like you to understand that I know what false identities are and sometimes famous people need them. Marshall Bruce Mathers Eminem at one point studied law and passed the bar exam to become a lawyer. If he’s still a lawyer, I want you to get a hold of him for me so that I can communicate with him and actually talk to him.” he said during the previous hearing.

But that’s not all that makes this case so intriguing. This is the defendant’s second appearance, and while he seems to have improved from his first appearance, his competency is still in question. On top of that, he has undergone a significant change in demeanor, which has left many people wondering what exactly is going on.

If you were not able to contact Eminem, I’ll just represent myself. I would rather represent myself anyways as opposed Marshall Mathers represent me if he is indeed that way.” says the criminal defendant.

One of the YouTube users commented: “Mike, Eminem (Marshall Matthers) is one of our Michigan home boys. He still lives there and gives back to the community. He dropped out of school at 17 after failing the 9th grade 3 times. He did get his GED later. He never studied law. He has tested on the autism spectrum. I’m not much into rap but I do like Eminem’s music.

Another replied: “What if it’s all true? I imagine Eminem sitting on his couch watching LTWM and seeing his good friend is in jail. Screaming at the screen “get a lawyer so they can call me!” , then running to the phone to contact his people so they can start the bail process. Then on the next update Eminem is standing behind him and a team of lawyers in court. Or he’s just crazy.

Another said: “Mike you’re a lawyer! You should be able to get in contact with Eminem’s representation!! We need a reaction video!!!

Ironically, in the song “Alfred’s Theme,” from Music To Be Murdered By album, Eminem raps: “I’m so far past the bar, I should practice law.

Nathan Kane talks about being raised by his brother Eminem

During a conversation with Hailie Jade Mathers on Just A Little Shady podcast, Eminem‘s younger brother, Nathan Kane has shared what it was like growing up with the hip-hop icon, describing Eminem as “the best role model”.

He was the best role model I could have had to help me be the dad that I am today,” – Nathan Kane

He also recalled the earlier days of Eminem’s massive fame. “I started understanding a little more when reality would hit when I would start seeing Eminem on TV and going to shows and all the signatures and crazy people. I am like, ‘Alright, well, this is real’… A few years later, when I was able to leave from being under my mum’s care, I moved in with you guys.

Nate also said that seeing his brother’s success inspired him to start writing, too. “I had learned from your dad, my brother, how to do music and how to write formulas, compound syllables and tested it out in the beginning. From there, I started looking around for beats and whatnot and got comfortable enough with my voice and writing skills that I started recording and getting a feel for how I would deliver songs and how that would formulate to where people would enjoy it.

During the interview Nathan also recalled the times when he was trying to look like his brother and how he got tricked by his cousin to dye his eyebrows: “[Eminem] would get so many free clothes and buy clothes that I would just take some. I would take his hand-me-downs, his huge ‘fat Farm’ outfits and stuff that I thought would fit me. I was like 110 pounds that time and trying to wear 3XL, fit perfect! When I was 12, and went to your dad’s first show, my brother’s first show, my cousin John convinced me, going to his show, not only should I dye my hair that my brother also dyes his eyebrows. Being young I’m like ‘Oh really? I wanna dye my eyebrows too. Sounds like a perfect idea. I wanna look like twins.’ But it was not case. [Eminem] didn’t dye his eyebrows.

Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Ice Cube send birthday wishes to Dr. Dre

Yesterday, the hip-hop world celebrated the birth of one of the most influential artists in the rap game. The living legend is described as none other than one and only Dr. Dre. Not only was Dre the first rap billionaire, but he was also an instrumental part in the creation of a new sub-genre of hip-hop, known as G-Funk.

The life and career of Dr. Dre have been able to make Rap and Hip-Hop what they are today. Without him, who knows where Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game and Kendrick Lamar would be today. From everyone at Southpawers, Happy Birthday, DRE. May you have many more successes-filled years.

50 Cent says Eminem should be No. 1 on Billboard/Vibe Top 50 greatest rappers of all time

50 Cent has recently joined MSNBC’s Ari Melber to discuss his new television broadcast deal with Fox network and the 2024 election. Plus, Fif celebrates 20 years of “Get Rich or Die Tryin,” and reflects on making music alongside Dr. Dre and Eminem. The New York legend also shares his thoughts on Billboard/Vibe magazine’s list of 50 Greatest Rappers Of All Time and comments on Jay-Z vs Future street influence.

“Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar and Nas top 3? Nah, they are still good artists but all time? No. I do not know who should be number one artist. It depends on a time period. And how do you not look at number one selling artist if we are in business? If we are in business, then you have to look at number one selling artist, because it’s a business!” says 50 Cent.

Then he continues: “I am talking about Eminem when I’m saying that. Em sold 90 million records [in the United States]. The bridge, when you see these Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Bentleys, there are no Lamborghinis and Ferraris for you to buy from Hip-Hop culture if there is no consumer base. If they don’t see where they fit into the culture then there is no reason to support and buy it.”

People are like ’50 just loves Eminem so much,’ yeah! I LOVE HIM TO DEATH

– 50 Cent (Feb. 18, 2023)

“So, right now them guys at home are like ‘O, 50 just loves Eminem so much,’ yeah! I LOVE HIM TO DEATH. I do love Em to death. I am looking at it and I am saying why would people be interested in it enough to consume it without it being marketed to them directly for them to feel like they are part of it.” Fif added.

As you might already know, Billboard/Vibe magazines have recently unveiled the updated list of The 50 Greatest Rappers Of All Time and ranked Eminem and 50 Cent at No. 5 and No. 17 respectively.

Eminem has recently served fans through Make-A-Wish Foundation with Mom’s Spaghetti in Downtime Detroit.

There is a rich history of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Chris Greicius, a boy with leukemia who aspired to be a police officer, was the inspiration for Make-A-Wish. In 1980, a community banded together to accomplish his wish. His desire had such an influence on his town that it became the idea for what is now Make-A-Wish. Make-A-current Wish’s objective is to develop the resources necessary to grant the wishes of every eligible child.

Todd Lieberman says Eminem was going to be Micky Ward in “Fighter” movie

In the latest episode of the Hollywood Gold podcast, Film and movie Todd Lieberman revealed that Eminem was initially producers’ top choice to star as boxer Micky Ward in 2010 movie The Fighter along with Christian Bale as his brother but it eventually went to Mark Wahlberg.

During the almost an hour interview, Todd said: “Many rewrites later, we started getting some direct attraction and Brad Weston, who is a formidable producer and studio executive and also kind of legend in the business, was at Paramount at that time and giant fan of the movie, the first person that we thought would star in this film, was Eminem. Eminem was going to be Micky Ward!”

The first person that we thought would star in this film, was Eminem. Eminem was going to be Micky Ward!” – Todd Lieberman (Feb. 17, 2023)

“That was a moment in time where he had come off with 8 Mile movie and he was interested in making movies and he wanted to do a boxing movie and that was something we pursued from and there was real life in that for a minute” – He added.

You can listen to the interview below and also check the 7 incredible movies Eminem turned down a leading role.

7 incredible movies Eminem turned down to have a main role

Eminem’s 8 Mile was huge success but people rarely know that Slim Shady was offered leading roles in several other movies but he turned down every one of them for different reasons. You can check the list of movies rejected by Eminem below:

1. Elysium (2013)

The main role was first offered to Ninja, a South African rapper, who despite being a fan of District 9 (2009) (he has a D9 tattoo on his inner lip) did not take the role. The role was then offered to Eminem, who was interested — but only if the shoot took place in his hometown of Detroit but the director could not so Eminem also turned it down. So Neill Blomkamp moved on to Matt Damon as his next choice.

2. Southpaw (2015)

Eminem was originally scouted for the role of Antoine Fuqua’s boxing film Southpaw, which he accepted and started filming. The movie had to be put on hold as Eminem wanted to focus on his music career, so the role was then given to Jake Gyllenhaal. But Eminem still stayed involved in the movie as he made the soundtracks album.

3. The Fighter (2010)

Matt Damon and Brad Pitt were previously attached to play Diky Eklund, but the role went to Christian Bale, who went on to win an Academy Award. Before Bale’s casting, Mark Wahlberg talked to Eminem about taking the role, but Eminem ultimately declined to focus more on his own music.

4. Training Day (2001)

Eminem was offered to play rookie cop Jake Hoyt. He turned it down due to the development of 8 Mile (2002), and had to stay available for that. Instead, Ethan Hawke took the part and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Eminem was nominated and won an Academy Award the following year for 8 Mile (2002), in the Best Original Song category for the iconic single “Lose Yourself.”

5. The Fast And The Furious (2001)

Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Eminem were all considered for the part of Brian O’Connor before Paul Walker was cast. Eminem turned it down because of the same reason as “Training Day.”

6. Batman Vs. Superman (2004)

Christian Bale was already being rumored to play Batman, while Jude Law and Josh Hartnett were considered for Superman. Director Petersen also indicated he would be open to Matt Damon playing either role. The most memorable casting rumor at the time had Eminem potentially playing Batman, following the massive success of 8 Mile movie. This is not actually Eminem rejecting the role but heavy rumors were going on at that time. Finally Warner Bros. scrapped the project and 12 years later, it was finally released with Ben Affleck playing the Batman.

7. Rival Gangs

Eminem once turned down an $8 million movie offer because the script was not gritty enough. He was approached by 50 Cent with a proposal for a crime film in which the two hip-hop stars would play rival gang leaders in Eminem’s adopted hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

However, Fifty astonished his pal by turning down the offer because he wanted a script more reminiscent of controversial 1979 street gangs movie The Warriors.

“It was a film where we were supposed to be playing two guys from different sides of the tracks. I’m like the head of this gang in Detroit and he’s the head of another gang. His thing was he didn’t like to leave Detroit… So I said, ‘Hey, they want to give you 8 million dollars to do it and we don’t have to leave Detroit, so you can go home every night!’ “He read the synopsis and was like, ‘It’s cool but we should do something like The Warriors.’ I said, ‘The Warriors? What the f**k, Em? The Warriors? Did you just hear me say they want to give you eight million dollars and you don’t have to leave Detroit?’ He didn’t give a f**k.”  – Told 50 Cent to Q Magazine.
