Skilla Baby Addresses Eminem Disrespect: “He’s the Most Iconic Rapper Ever”

Posted on March 25, 2026 By Remy Gelenidze

Detroit rapper Skilla Baby recently joined Gianni Paolo and Kris Lofton on The Crew Has It podcast for an expansive conversation that moved from the gritty details of his career to his personal spiritual growth. The “Bae” artist covered a wide range of topics, including his upcoming album, his experiences gambling in Las Vegas, and his “crazy time” spent with 50 Cent. He even took a moment to jokingly air his grievances regarding Kris Lofton’s character in the Power universe, all while discussing his deeper connection with God and his interest in gospel music.

A significant portion of the interview was dedicated to clarifying the relationship between the current Detroit rap scene and the city’s most famous global export, Eminem. Skilla addressed the common misconception that there is friction between the new generation and the Shady Records legend. “I have never met Eminem. That’s on my bucket list,” Skilla admitted. “Everybody think that Detroit rapper are disrespecting Eminem and we don’t f–k with Eminem. The problem is, we f–k with him so much that the fact that we can’t reach out to him and connect him it hurts. It’s Eminem. The best rapper ever is from Detroit.”

Skilla continued to praise Eminem’s unmatched status in the industry, highlighting the rarity of his public appearances and the massive impact he still has on his hometown. “He’s the most iconic rapper ever,” he noted, describing how the city reacts when the legend finally steps out. “The only time you gonna see Eminem when Detroit Lions play. He going to be in the building, they gonna show him on a big screen and they gonna play ‘Lose Yourself’ and the whole stadium goes crazy.”

The rapper expressed a deep-seated desire to finally bridge the gap and meet the man who influenced his upbringing. He shared that his admiration for the artist was a constant theme in his household growing up, leading to a humorous family memory. “I just wanna be in the same room as him and not be disconnected. We reallly f–k with him a long way. It’s Eminem bro,” Skilla explained, adding with a laugh, “My mom used to tell me Eminem was my daddy.”

When the conversation shifted to the talent currently coming out of Michigan, Skilla provided a breakdown of who he believes is running the streets right now versus the legends of the past. “Right now top 3 rappers of Detroit other than me are Veeze, Babyface Ray and on third both tee Tee Grizzley and 42 Dugg,” he said. When looking at the history of the city as a whole, his list remained high-profile: “All time though, it’s Eminem, Big Sean, Tee Grizzley and Dej Loaf.”

As he looks toward the future—which includes aspirations of winning a Grammy and continuing his evolution as an artist—Skilla Baby has clear goals for his dream collaborations. While his upcoming album remains a primary focus, he has already visualized the lineup for a perfect joint project. “If I could choose anybody to do an album with, I would work with Eminem, Chris Brown and Anita Baker,” he revealed.
