Royce 5’9″ reveals he had Coronavirus, says he first heard about his Grammy nomination from Joyner Lucas & more

Yesterday Episode 12 of The Lupe Fiasco and Royce 5’9″ show called “Say What Media” was livestreamed on YouTube. During the conversation, Royce revealed that Joyner Lucas was the first person who called and congratulated on the Grammy nomination.

“I was talking to my doctor and then I noticed whole bunch of people started DMing me and texting me congratulations and I’m like why these people keep texting me this. And then my phone starts ringing. Then as soon as I hang up to my doctor the very first person who called was Joyner Lucas and he’s like ‘Yo congratulations ni**a!’ I’m like ‘CONGRATULATIONS FOR WHAT?!’ and he’s like ‘yo, on the Grammy nomination man.’ I immediately think to myself maybe they talking about Marshall album.”

“I didn’t even know Grammy were announcing nominations that day. I also didn’t know that E1, which is the company that I partnered up to release the album, I didn’t know they submitted it. I didn’t know my album got submitted for the Grammys.”

After the Grammy talks, Royce revealed that he has just beaten Coronavirus:

“I feel better now. I was sick, man. I was sick and I never get sick. I was man down for about 4 days. I was not feeling well. I had headaches. I had chills. It was like flu. Royce 5’9″ on his Grammy nod: “I was shocked”

Couple of days ago, Detroit legend Royce 5’9″ wasn’t sure why his smartphone was blowing up with text messages, Instagram & Twitter DMs and phone calls but few minutes later he found out that his 2020 album “The Allegory” received a Grammy 2021 nomination for Best Rap Album which marks his first every nomination throughout his +two decade career. The album is up against is up against D Smoke’s “Bad Habits,” Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist’s “Alfredo,” Jay Electronica’s “A Written Testimony” and Nas’ “King’s Disease.”

In an interview with The Detroit News, Royce 5’9″ says: “I was shocked. It was by far the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me. It is surreal. I am still taking it in. Somebody needs to pinch me. I feel like someone’s going to come and say ‘nah, psyche, we are just kidding.'”

“Everyone is beaming with pride. This album is my brainchild.” This is the album that has a lot of my ideologies, a lot of me wanting to point people in different directions, and getting them to see certain things and being able to place perspective on things for people. It is me putting the black mirror up to the world, and forcing the world to look at itself, and asking ‘what do you think about what you see?'”

“Of course I want to win but I am not gonna bang my head against the wall if I do not. I do not pretend like I am not used to being overlooked in this type of scenario. I look at it like it is a win already. One of the things about it is I really respect everybody that are in the category with me, so a loss is not a loss. A loss is still a win, for the culture.”

Royce 5’9″ talks with Nick Cannon about Eminem, DJ Vlad & more

Royce Da 5’9″ and Nick Cannon has recently sit down for an hour-long interview on Cannon’s Class podcast where the two talked about many things, including Eminem.

Nick Cannon: I have to ask you man, how tired do you get talking about Eminem all the time cause I know I get tired.

Royce Da 5’9″: I don’t really get tired. I look at it little bit differently. He’s put up. He’s not one of these guys using his platform to speak cause he doesn’t say too much. Usually when he speaks, it comes out with his music. It’s something about people and fame. They look at famous people like they are something other than human-beings.

Royce Da 5’9″: Eminem has been famous for so long. There are people who never seen him. They only know him from their TV screens so they look at him like chanted so when they hear me speak about him and when I speak about him I call him Marshall. I talk about him like he’s a regular person so I think they like me hearing speak about him in such a regular way. I think that’s interesting to them. So when his name comes up and I’m talking about all the normal things we do I think that’s intriguing for some people.”

Then the two continue talking about what intensified beef with D12 in early days, DJ VLAD, addiction and many more interesting topics. You can watch the interview below:
