Kurupt says Rakim & Eminem are equally greatest MCs

A long-standing soldier of the west coast rap movement, Kurupt has recently attended the ceremony of Dr. Dre getting a star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame. TMZ Hip-Hop got a few seconds to chop it up with the legendary rapper outside Dre’s WOF ceremony. When he was asked where Dr. Dre ranks in greatest producers of all time Kurupt picked Dre as rap’s greatest producer, while also giving Eminem his props as one of the greats, beside hip-hop icon, Rakim.

“Dr. Dre is number one greatest producers of all time in hip-hop. Eminem is one of the greatest emcees. Where would I rank him? I don’t. There are too many greats. He’s up there with Rakim. No one ranks higher. No one ranks higher than R (Rakim) but Em (Eminem) is with the R. You know why? Cause they are equal.” said Kurupt.

Em likely wouldn’t argue about Kurupt’s statement. He calls Rakim one of the G.O.A.T.s as well, and credits the “Paid in Full” creator with being the first MC he heard using complex rhyme patterns which ultimately pushing Slim Shady to take things to another level.

Kurupt is also one of the main influences of Eminem. Em even listed him on “Till I Collapse” from The Eminem Show album when he spat the verse about the greatest rappers: “I got a list, here’s the order of my list that it’s in / It goes: Reggie, Jay-Z, 2Pac and Biggie / André from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas, and then me / But in this industry I’m the cause of a lot of envy./ So when I’m not put on this list, the s–t does not offend me.”

In a new interview with James Corden, Dr. Dre crowned Eminem as the best MC to ever touch the microphone. “I think he is the best emcee ever. Point blank, period. Of course there gonna be arguments about that because he’s white guy, you know. I don’t think anyone that is rapping can touch Eminem on microphone.” said Dre.

Busta Rhymes names Top 5 Greatest Rappers Ever, includes Eminem

Last month, Busta Rhymes returned with a new studio album, Blockbusta. The LP arrived as his eleventh project overall and the first full-length collection of music since 2020’s Extinction Level Event 2.

To promote the album, the East Flatbush, New York-born hip-hop legend has done an interview on Amazon Music’s +44 Podcast with Sideman and Zeze Millz where he revealed his list of top five greatest rappers of all time.

“Greatest rapper ever? I don’t think I have one. I could say five. Rakim. Some might disagree with me but Nas. I would say Eminem. I’m starting to feel like there some new guys that are starting to go into that list to me. I’m almost there with J. Cole but I’m still torn between him and Kendrick. I’m talking about only bars! If Kendrick was to get active in the same way that Cole is being active, it would be a way different conversation but again, I’m torn between Cole and Kendrick, but it would be one of them two.” said Busta Rhymes.

Then he continued: “I still didn’t put none of them two in the fourth place. I was just saying that it was gonna be a new guy cause they are really starting to really earn their right to passage and to be in the top 5 greatest of all time to me. I would definitely say JAY-Z. I’m Biggie bias. I’m Biggie bias because I think what he has done between two albums everybody obviously had an opportunity to work way longer than him and they still can’t top what he has done in two albums. I think that’s my list.”

Rakim names best match-up to go against Eminem, Royce 5’9″ reacts

Rakim, the God emcee, has recently shared a picture of Eminem and Black Thought on Instagram, asking fans what they think about the match-up: “Conversation of the day!! Talk about it in the comments. I’ll be watching.” – Rakim wrote in the caption.

Royce 5’9″ was quick to respond in the comments: “They have the words on a string … Like a yo-yo … The two most extreme examples of lyrical overachiever that you could pair together .. We’re not worthy.”

Rakim’s post also divided hip-hop fans into half. One user replied: “Both are èlite lyricist, I’d rather see them collab than go against each other! Em’s storytelling and rhyme schemes with Thought’s lyricism and flow are a deadly combination.” Another commented: “Black Thought, by a convincing margin, only because of the congruence of his bars. Em is extremely skilled and make words rhyme (whole sentences at times), but they don’t always make sense, or have the degree of depth that a Black Thought displays effortlessly…(one man’s opinion)” Someone said: “The mechanics of Em do not offer the nuance, soul, education, or relatability that Thought bestows.. though I would love to hear Em over more soulful tracks, personally I’d still rock with Tariq.”

50 Cent shows love to legendary Rakim

Taking to Instagram to pay homage, 50 Cent shared a clip from the legendary Rakim’s Tiny Desk Concert, with the caption: “If you do not know who this is please do not talk to me in life, please and thank you,” Rakim fires off rapid-fire bars from his classic Eric B collaboration “Know The Ledge.”

Kxng Crooked namedrops Eminem & Rakim on his new song

KXNG Crooked returns with new song “Schea Cotton” and the music video comes with it.

The title is named after California’s professional basketball player who played for 10 years professionally but never reached the NBA.

In the song, Crooked raps: “You all will not mention my name, you hatin’ / I guess that is what happens when you interview Rakim and you are in Eminem’s Top Ten.”

DJ Premier shares Eminem & Rakim picture

Legendary producer DJ Premier, who has recently collaborated with Eminem on a song “Book Of Rhymes,” from Music To Be Murdered By: Side B album, have posted a picture of Eminem and Rakim on his Instagram story.

Preemo tagged both emcees on a post but without any caption. Could this be any hint on something? DJ Premier, Rakim and Eminem on a track? Too good to be true, right? Check out the screenshot of the post below:
