Mark Batson celebrates Eminem’s “Relapse” going No. 1 on Billboard chart 14 years ago today

On this day, 14 years ago (June 7, 2009) Eminem’s Relapse album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 608,000 sold in its first week of release. The album included the No. 1 Hot 100 hit song “Crack a Bottle,” featuring Dr. Dre and 50 Cent and top 10 hit “We Made You.” The album became the best selling rap album of the year.

The 14-year anniversary post was shared by Chart Data on Twitter and retweeted by Mark Batson with the caption: “And nothing was ever the same. #eminem #drdre #relapse.”

Legendary Aftermath and Interscope producer Mark Batson produced and wrote almost every track on Relapse, including: “3.A.M.” “Hello,” “Medicine Ball,” “Old Time’s Sake,” featuring Dr. Dre, “Must Be The Ganja,” and “We Made You” single version. He also wrote and produced “Hell Breaks Loose,” featuring Dr. Dre from Relapse: Refill album.

Mark Batson names Eminem song that has one of the illest flows of all time

Mark Batson, who is a genius behind Eminem’s Encore and Relapse albums, has recently interacted with the fan on Twitter.

Legends Will Never Die twitter page shared a post dedicated to 14-year anniversary of Eminem’s “3AM” single from Relapse album: “14 years ago today, Eminem released 3am as the 3rd single off his 6th album ℞ELAPSƎ under his own label Shady Records in conjunction with Aftermath Entertainment alongside Interscope and Web Entertainment.” Mark Batson retweeted the tweet with the caption: “One of the illest flows of all time.”

“3 A.M.” was released as the third single Relapse. The song is produced by Dr. Dre with Mark Batson behind the keyboards.

In the song, Eminem raps from the perspective of a serial killer questioning his own sanity and recalling a string of murders. The song is said to be closer to the overall sound of the album, as opposed to the poppy, fun-poking “We Made You”. It’s meant to be an ode to his fascination with horror movie characters such as Freddy Krueger and Hannibal Lecter. It features Eminem presumably rapping from the perspective of his alter ego Slim Shady, using both internal and multi-syllabic rhyme schemes in his three verses.

“3 A.M.” debuted at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100, selling 66,000 downloads in its first week of release. You can revisit the single below:

Mark Batson reminisces studio times with Eminem & Dr. Dre with iconic picture

Legendary Mark Batson, who has previously worked with Eminem, 50 Cent and Dr. Dre on many occasions, contributing to some of the most iconic records which have sold more than millions of copies worldwide, has recently hit twitter to remember the golden times in the studio with Eminem and Dr. Dre.

“Once upon a time, many years ago, there were three musicians who loved this powerful art form called: Hip Hop.” – The super-producer tweeted couple of hours ago, along the picture of himself, Eminem and Dr. Dre being in the studio, probably recording something for Relapse album.

Mark was heavily involved in my favorite Eminem album of all time, Relapse and Relapse: Refill. Some of his biggest Slim Shady hits include: “A– Like That,” “Crack A Bottle,” “Just Lose It,” “Kill For You,” with Skylar Grey, “Mosh,” “Nowhere Fast,” with Kehlani, “We Made You,” and the most recent work on Music To Be Murdered By album “Premonition.”

When we made Relapse with Eminem, it was not well received at the moment but now it is considered to be a classic. That’s how it goes… The most important thing is to keep being creative and offer the people things you think they will need. From the calls, I have been getting today, and the album already being #1 on the iTunes’ New Age charts, I think that people are letting their voices be known that something like this album is essential.” said Mark Batson in an interview with HipHop24x7 back in 2021.
