Fans think Kendrick Lamar did to Drake what Eminem did to MGK after hearing new Drake verse

Drake has contributed a verse to “Wah Gwan Delilah,” a new Toronto-themed remix of “Hey There Delilah” by rapper who goes by the name of Snowd4y.

Arriving on the tails of Drake’s highly-publicized rap feud with Kendrick Lamar, his “Wah Gwan Delilah” verse sees him cheekily re-imagine the lyrics of the Plain White T’s classic with Toronto lingo and a healthy layer of auto-tune, though in all honesty, the feature sounds like it could really go either way on being AI or not.

For his part, Snowd4y — who provides most of the vocals for the remix — has been teasing Drake’s involvement on social media for weeks, sharing videos of him revealing the feature to friends. Drake’s recent feud with Lamar had been simmering for some time, but came to a head this past April when the two artists began releasing back-and-forth diss tracks, culminating with Lamar’s “Not Like Us” reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Drake followed up with the non-charting “The Heart Part 6.”

Fans are disappointed by Drake’s new singing verse and some of them now claim Kendrick Lamar made Drake to change the genre like Eminem did to Machine Gun Kelly with “Killshot” back in 2018. Check out some reactions below:

Eminem to executive produce “Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central”

Eminem and Paul Rosenberg are set to executive produce the “Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central.” It could be one for the ages: A blockbuster, all-star celebration of Detroit music will bring Diana Ross, Jack White, Big Sean and a host of other top names to the restored Michigan Central train station as the historic site launches its grand reopening for a global audience. The concert is spearheaded by Ford Motor Co., which spent nearly $1 billion to renovate the site and unveiled the artist roster Monday morning after weeks of buildup.

Branded as “Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central,” the event will stream live on Peacock, then air Sunday on NBC as a prime-time special. The 90-minute, genre-spanning concert — whose lineup includes hip-hop duo Slum Village, gospel stars Kierra Sheard and the Clark Sisters, techno-house DJ Theo Parrish and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra — will mark the biggest convergence of hometown star power on one Detroit stage in decades. The show will also feature visiting artists such as Jelly Roll, Fantasia, Common and Melissa Etheridge performing tributes to the city’s rich music heritage. Additional acts are being booked for the event, sources have told the Detroit Free Press. Monday’s official announcement says the concert will include “surprise special guests.” Presenters will include Detroit Lions stars and veterans such as Barry Sanders, Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown, along with comedian Mike Epps and actress Sophia Bush.

The concert can be watched live at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Peacock, the streaming service operated by NBC Universal, and will be repurposed for a one-hour NBC special airing nationally at 7 p.m. Sunday. Six weeks after the NFL Draft downtown, the Michigan Central concert is poised to give Detroit another high-profile starring role amid the city’s ongoing renewal. Details were revealed Monday by Ford and Michigan Central after weeks of growing buzz and intrigue about the free event, which will accommodate 15,000 people at Corktown’s Roosevelt Park in front of the restored train station. Tickets have already been distributed. The concert is a marquee moment for Ford as it unveils the resurrected Michigan Central following a six-year, $950 million rehabilitation of the 13-story depot and its surrounding 30-acre campus just west of downtown Detroit.

“We wanted to celebrate the reopening of Michigan Central Station in style and make it a night to remember for Detroiters and people watching around the world,” Bill Ford, executive chair of Ford, said in a statement Monday. “I am honored and grateful that so many of Detroit’s musical legends, sports heroes, artists and innovators are joining us to celebrate the city we all love and the bright future we are creating together.” The streaming and TV production is being led by Jesse Collins Entertainment, a Los Angeles company that has overseen Super Bowl halftime shows, Emmy Awards, BET Honors and other events.

Homegrown hit rapper Big Sean, who kicked off April’s NFL Draft with a live set, figured prominently in Ford’s 2018 public festivities when the automaker bought the train station property. Those artists and the others announced Monday make up the most notable concentration of name-brand Detroit talent to share a bill in many years — likely going back to the 1960s and the Motortown Revues that assembled chart-topping Motown acts at venues such as the Fox Theatre. If Eminem were to perform, it would be the rapper’s first hometown show in nearly a decade, not counting his onstage cameos with touring acts such as Ed Sheeran and 50 Cent. Eminem ‘s last headlining stand in Detroit was an August 2014 Comerica Park doubleheader with Rihanna. For more details, visit DETROIT FREE PRESS and bump Eminem ‘s new single “Houdini” below:

Rich Lee shares quick story of Eminem’s “Houdini” music video

Few days ago, Eminem released “Houdini” single with a music video, directed by long-running collaborator Rich Lee (“Not Afraid,” “Rap God,” “Phenomenal,” “Walk On Water,” “The Monster,” “Venom,” “My Life”). The innovative “Houdini” video freely calls back to classic Eminem videos such as Joseph Khan’s “Without Me” and Phillip Atwell’s “Real Slim Shady”. “Houdini” is packed with cameos including Dr. Dre, Pete Davidson, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Jimmy Iovine, Grip, Westside Boogie, Denaun Porter, Royce 5’ 9”, Paul Rosenberg, The Alchemist, EZ Mil, Ryan Keely, Samantha Mack, and comedian Shane Gillis. The generative AI used in the video was created by Metaphysic, with Jo Plaete and Chris Ume supervising production.

Rich Lee spoke on the video more by mentioning “What if Shady from the 2000s got teleported into the modern day and we got his take on what the world has become…and what if “Rap Boy” was the only person who could stop him? But, 20+ years have passed so theres a little less stamina and some bad knees. The crazy combination of new tech that made this music video possible. We are in such an awesome time now for filmmaking, and we were able to leverage so much of the great tech we have at hand.”

After the release of the music video, the director hit Instagram to share a quick beautiful story behind “Houdini”: “Our new Eminem video is out! Quick story! I moved to Los Angeles in 1999 and I was working as a sculptor and fabricator for Walt Disney Imagineering. I remember walking through the shop one day and some of the carpenters had the radio blasting (as that rowdy bunch usually does!) and the track that was playing was Eminem’s “My Name Is”. I remember that moment so vividly. I remember the faces of who was around, where I was standing, the smell of the workshop and Em’s voice echoing through it. I had no idea who he was at the time but it sounded so different than anything else. I literally stopped in my tracks and just stared at the radio, listening to this unhinged yet so precise voice assaulting my eardrums. I was mesmerized. I could never have predicted that 10 years later I’d be directing my first music video for him…or 20+ years later doing over a dozen projects with him. Wild.” said Rich Lee.

Then he continued: Looking at the comments on social media, the controversy, the love, the hate, etc., one thing that I’m seeing a lot of is a lot of people of my gen feeling a great sense of nostalgia for that early 2000s feeling. We obviously were leaning on some of his early iconography from that time, in a way it’s sort of a sequel to some of those videos (Are we rebooting music videos now?!). It was a lot to live up to and while challenging, it was a lot of fun to put this together.

“Anyways, I’m super lucky to be able to do this kind of work and collaborate with icons like Em. Dude is def the GOAT and totally ridiculous and fun to collaborate with! Quick thank you to the awesome team that helped get this across the finish line!” Rich Lee added.

The director also shared the ‘Eminem kids’ scene from the music video on his Instagram story with the caption: “By the way, it was crazy to shoot Eminem but to be honest it was surreal to have Hailie on our set too. Such a huge part of Eminem lore.” You can check the screenshot below:

Hip-hop artists react to Eminem’s “Houdini”

Eminem returns with “Houdini,” a hard-hitting new single accompanied by a fitting video. Em teased the drop earlier this week in a FaceTime with David Blaine — the clip ended with the magician eating a wine glass, and the rapper declaring, “Well, for my last trick, I’m gonna make my career disappear.” “Houdini” gives fans the first taste of Eminem’s 12th album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), due out this summer.

“Houdini” is produced by Eminem himself and – continuing the theme- features a sample and interpolation of Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit, “Abracadabra.” The accompanying clip imagines Eminem’s antagonist character Slim Shady emerging in the present day via a “portal” — and finds himself confused and unsettled by what he sees in 2024. Determined to mold the modern era into a place more suited to his unique worldview, he sets off on a mission to do exactly that. Only current day Eminem’s alter-alter ego “Rap Boy” can save the world from Shady, along with his long time mentor- the legendary Dr. Dre. In an effort to neutralize these nefarious actions things go sideways and an unholy hybrid version of Eminem is created. Dr. Dre is less than thrilled with the results and hastily leaves the hybrid Shady to continue on his own… until a wandering stranger joins in and takes the wheel. Guess who’s back, indeed.

Directed by long-running collaborator Rich Lee (“Not Afraid,” “The Monster,” “Venom,” etc.), the innovative “Houdini” video freely calls back to classic Eminem videos such as Joseph Khan’s “Without Me” and Phillip Atwell’s “Real Slim Shady”.

Rich Lee speaks on the video more by mentioning “What if Shady from the 2000s got teleported into the modern day and we got his take on what the world has become…and what if “Rap Boy” was the only person who could stop him? But, 20+ years have passed so theres a little less stamina and some bad knees. The crazy combination of new tech that made this music video possible. We are in such an awesome time now for filmmaking, and we were able to leverage so much of the great tech we have at hand.”

The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) will be Eminem’s first album since 2020’s Music to Be Murdered By, which not only topped the Billboard 200, but also was the artist’s 10th to do so. That set was packed with a generation and genre-spanning guest list, ranging from Dr. Dre to Ed Sheeran to Juice Wrld. Not much has yet been revealed about the forthcoming full-length, but fans have been searching for clues in a special episode of Detroit Murder Files, and a mysterious obituary published in the Detroit Free Press. Dr. Dre has confirmed his involvement.

We have compiled reactions to “Houdini” from hip-hop artists and it includes B-Real, Big Daddy Kane, Ice T, Big Sean, Mickey Factz, Math Hoffa, DJ Hed, Punch TDE, Obie Trice and many others. Check them below.

“I was on the tour lately and I randomly got a text from Eminem and apparently he had heard  the song that I did with Mr. Criminal. We did a song recently and somehow that’s the one Eminem heard. He hit me up and he’s like ‘dude! the bar work on Mr. Criminal song…’ and he starts quoting the bars. I was like ‘hey man, coming from you that means a lot cause I respect the hell out of my bro. To me, he’s top 3 all day. No one could shake that foundation, ever! Don’t try to throw other MCs in front of the names that I choose as my three. It’s my three and Eminem’s on my top 3.” – said B-Real.

Then he continued: “He was giving me feedback on some stuff cause I sent him the Real Psycho album and we had like two-three day conversation and he’s like ‘man, I’m listening to this s–t and your bars on this and that…’ It surprised me. I only gave it to him for an opinion cause I respect him as an MC and writer. He was kinda giving me feedback on all of it and I was like ‘thank you bro, it’s much love all day.’ And then, when I heard the new joint ‘Houdini’ the other day I had to hit him back like ‘bro! your pocket is still just ridiculous!’ Every bar flipped. It’s like an old Eminem s–t. Like, got bars and its funny. He has brought the shock humor cynical bars back. The video is also hilarious. I don’t care what anybody says, that s–t was hilarious to me. That’s him singing the chorus and he killed that. And I said to him ‘that Steve Miller s–t you put on the chorus was f–king hard son. There’s gonna be a lot of people scrutinizing my dude but hate if you want, we are not. We f–k with it. If you hate it’s just because you got a problem. Art is subjective, some people are going to get down with it and some ain’t but I’m just saying I get down with it cause he came back with a smasher right there and the video just backs it up cause its hilarious and just as funny as the first one, if not more funny. That was gold. I can’t wait what the album sounds like.”

Logic shouts out Eminem in a new song, teases another song with Slim Shady

Logic has been working on Ultra 85 album “for years and years and years.” That was based on an interview with The Greatest Creators With Guy Raz in early 2024. His fans definitely know that, as a lot of people have been on the edge of their seats waiting a long time for this to come to fruition. That hopelessness should be coming to end at some point this year.

A few days after that announcement, the Maryland hip-hop artist would go on to drop the dance-inspired “Fear”. Then, the more straightforward banger, “44ever”, would follow in April, which brings us to “Deja Vu.” As soon as you spin this single, your ears may catch on to the familiar flows, lyrics, and instrumental. This certainly makes sense, especially due to the name of the record.

In the first verse (It’s actually the only verse on the song), Logic shouts out Eminem and probably teases another song with Slim Shady. “Who you know go toe-to-toe with Em? “Homicide,” might have to go again. Student of the game, I studied him JAY-Z, Nasir, and Rakim.” – Logic raps.

Possibly one of the most known songs from Logic’s discography, “Homicide,” featuring Eminem was the third single from Logic’s 2019 album, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which received and garnered a positive reception. Logic talks about that feature with Eminem, saying that if he would ever have another Eminem feature, he will make it an effort to be on par with Eminem’s lyricism and delivery. He also said that he learned rapping techniques from Slim Shady, JAY-Z, Nas and Rakim. You listen to the new song below:

Eminem earns his biggest ever streaming debut on global Spotify with “Houdini”

Last night Eminem dropped the first single “Houdini” off of his forthcoming new album titled The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) on steaming services. The song is produced by Eminem himself and – continuing the theme- features a sample and interpolation of Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit, “Abracadabra.” The accompanying clip imagines Eminem’s antagonist character Slim Shady emerging in the present day via a “portal” — and finds himself confused and unsettled by what he sees in 2024.

“Houdini” debuted at No. 3 on Global Spotify by earning 7,850,400 streams in its first day of release. That makes “Houdini” Marshall’s biggest ever streaming debut on the charts, surpassing 2020’s “Godzilla,” featuring Juice WORLD, from Music To Be Murdered By, which accumulated 5,773,657 streams globally on its first day. The song is also the third biggest opening debut of the year so far.

The song also debuted at No. 4 in the United States Spotify charts with almost 3 million streams. No. 2 in the United Kingdom with 815k streams and No. 2 in Canada with 600k streams. It also hit No. 6 in Germany with 503k plays. “Houdini” also had a huge success on iTunes. It reached No.1 in Worldwide iTunes Chart and No.1 in 17 Countries. It also was the most watched music video in the last 24 on YouTube with 13.5 million views.

Directed by long-running collaborator Rich Lee (“Not Afraid,” “The Monster,” “Venom,” etc.), the innovative “Houdini” video freely calls back to classic Eminem videos such as Joseph Khan’s “Without Me” and Phillip Atwell’s “Real Slim Shady.” Because of so much references to his old classic song, “Without Me” was the biggest gainer on Top Songs Global charts.

Mr. Porter hints at Eminem performance at Michigan Central Station

Guess what is back? Michigan Central Station is finally back. It has been 36 years since the last train left the station, but next week, Ford Motor Co. will reopen the long-empty building to the public once again. When the station reopens, it’ll be the first time in a generation that visitors will be invited in to see the historic space, now reinvented for new uses.

As the Detroit newspapers report, hosted by Ford and Michigan Central, Michigan Central OPEN welcomes the public to share in this major milestone with an opening night concert outside the station featuring a lineup of legendary Detroit performers produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment, an Emmy-winning production company, that has played an integral role in producing many of television’s most memorable moments in music entertainment, including multiple Super Bowl Halftime Shows. Jesse Collins Entertainment’s Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay will executive produce the show. Emmy award-winning production companies Diversified Production Services and Killian + Company are also producing the special event. The outdoor concert will also be available via livestream.

“There’s no place like Detroit, and we couldn’t be more excited to showcase the city through its own incredible artists. We’re going to create an unforgettable welcome party for Michigan Central with this new chapter in Detroit history that celebrates the visions of these unique performers who are bound together by a shared love of their city.” said Executive Producer Jesse Collins, founder and CEO Jesse Collins Entertainment.

On June 6, festivities kick off with Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central, a 90-minute outdoor spectacular in front of The Station headlined by some of  Detroit’s biggest stars. The standing room only show will feature short films, appearances by local leaders, and creators telling stories of innovation and culture from around the city and the region. Gates will open at 6 p.m., and the show will begin at 8:30 p.m.

Even though the list of performers has not been announced yet, Eminem is highly possible to be one of the musical acts to hold the convert at the event as he has just released new single “Houdini,” from upcoming The Death Of Slim Shady album. Fans’ prediction has been strengthened by Denaun Porter on Instagram. “Spited,” which is a rhyme scheme platform, posted a video of Eminem’s rhyme scheme on the second verse of “Houdini.” Under the comment section, Denaun commented: “Please do the rest of the song. I gotta learn this by Monday. Way easier to follow.” As you know, Mr. Porter is Eminem’s hypeman during concerts and live events. By “I gotta learn this by Monday” and “Way easier to follow” are somethings that a hypeman would say.

Steve Miller pens heartfelt letter to Eminem

Today, Eminem released “Houdini,” the first single from his upcoming 12th solo studio album Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). The song is produced by Eminem himself and Luis Resto and it samples and interpolates 1982 song “Abracadabra” by Steve Miller Band.

Steven Miller is the founder and only remaining original member of the Steve Miller Band, which he founded in 1966, and is the principal songwriter, lead singer, harmonicist, keyboardist, and one of the guitarists. He began his career in blues and blues rock and evolved to a more pop-oriented arena rock genre during the mid-1970s through the early 1980s, releasing popular singles and albums. Miller was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

After Eminem dropped “Houdini,” the iconic singer penned a heartful letter to Detroit legend on X (Formerly Twitter): “Hey EM. There is a long chain of stories, poetry, lyrics, and musical roots that have crossed cultures and generations inspiring the whole world for hundreds of years and in all those lines of thought, music, and rhythm there are special artists who take it all in and create new original ideas from their own feelings and experiences. You are one of those timeless originators building something new on a long musical legacy of original artists. For me it’s Les Paul, T-Bone Walker, Bill Doggett, Johnny Guitar Watson, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, the Beatles, Chuck Berry, Willy Dixon, Leiber & Stoller, Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane & Miles Davis.” said Steven Miller.

Then he continued: “I have always tried to credit, honor, and respect the major influencers in my life and to always credit, honor royalties and share knowledge of their work through my own work. I didn’t know it would be this way when I was a kid trying to make a living playing music and making records, I only knew I had to respect the art that came before me and fight for it too among all the crooks, thieves, and imposters.”

“There aren’t many artists who take the time or make the effort to stand up for themselves and credit and respect their influencers at the same time. Marshall Mathers you are an exception and on my short list of people who respect the art. To be included in your process feels good while I’m still singing and playing the music I love. I’m Honored. Thank you.” Steven Miller added. You can check the tweet below:

LeBron James shows massive love to Eminem’s new song

Eminem has just gave us the first taste of his upcoming 12th solo studio album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” dropping somewhere this summer, with the release of its first single, titled “Houdini.” The new single got fans excited, including celebrities like Big Sean and LeBron James.

The song begins with a classic Eminem trope, enlisting his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg to share his distaste of the album that’s to come. “Hey Em, it’s Paul. I was listening to the album… Good f–king luck, you’re on your own,” says Rosenberg.

“Houdini” is somewhat of a callback to his 2002 single “Without Me,” beginning with the singsong rhymes, “Guess who’s back, back again / Shady’s back, tell a friend.” The song, produced by Eminem and his longtime collaborator Luis Resto, cites Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra” on the chorus, and references Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez shooting incident on one of the lines. “If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me / Would I really have a shot at a feat? I don’t know, but I’m glad to be, back,” he raps.

The music video for the song is a direct homage to “Without Me,” as Eminem steps into a portal back to the year when the song came out. The clip, shot in a comic strip style like the video for “Without Me,” features guest appearances from 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, GRIP, Westside Boogie, Ez Mil, Royce 5’9″, Denaun Porter and Alchemist, among many others, and sees two Eminems — one from 2002 and another from the current day — rapping along to “Houdini.”

LeBron James is the latest celebrity who showed love to Slim Shady’s new single. “And just like that, HE’S BACK bruh! @eminem Houdini is too good!” Check the tweet from NBA legend below:

In classic Eminem form, he stokes controversial flames, referencing transgender individuals, RuPaul and referring to his own children as “brats.” “Cancel me, what? Okay, that’s it, go ahead Paul, quit / Snake a-s prick, you male cross dresser, fake a-s b–ch / And I’ll probably get s–t for that (watch) / But you can all suck my d–k, in fact, f–k them/ F–k Dre, f–k Jimmy, f–k me, f–k you / F–k my own kids, they’re brats (f–k ’em) / They can screw off, them and you all (yeah) / You too, Paul, got two balls, big as RuPaul’s.”

SZA covers “Lose Yourself,” Eminem reacts

Today (May 31, 2024), SZA took to social media to share a clip of herself singing Eminem’s magnum opus 2002 hit song from the 8 Mile soundtracks album, “Lose Yourself,” recorded on her mobile phone. The cover, backed by mellow piano keys and a bass guitar sees SZA singing the first verse, chorus and a portion of the song’s second verse before it cuts off.

Captioning the post, Top Dawg Entertainment singer and songwriter clarified that the cover was recorded to help her mental health, and will not be part of any upcoming projects: “U ever just cover Eminem on some tender s–t for feels? Not on a project Just for mental health.” she said.

Under the comments section of the post, Eminem commented “Flushed Face” emoji. Questlove also commented the double exclamation mark. MTV’s official page also replied with: “this healed me.” Camila Cabello also commented: “holy s–t.” Denaun Porter also responded: “Love it” with fire emojis.

The cover was uploaded onto SZA ‘s Instagram page about an hour before Eminem released his new single, ‘Houdini’. Packaged with an accompanying music video in which the Detroit legend recreated scenes from his 2002 music video ‘Without Me’, the clip also featured cameos from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Paul Rosenberg, Jimmy Iovine, Hailie Jade and more. ‘Houdini’ serves as the first single for the rapper’s upcoming album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’, which has yet to receive a release date but is expected to arrive sometime this Summer.

Eminem announces “The Death of Slim Shady” limited edition pre-order with bonus track

Eminem ‘s new single “Houdini” has just arrived, and with it a music video that’s chock full of celebrity cameos from Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, comedians Shane Gillis and Pete Davidson, his Shady Records artists GRIP, Westside Boogie, Ez Mil, Denaun Porter, Royce 5’9″ among others.

The music video, like the song, is a throwback to Eminem’s 2002 hit “Without Me,” the first single released off of his blockbuster album “The Eminem Show.” The song reprises the “guess who’s back” intro to the song, and the video features Eminem and Dr. Dre returning to their superhero characters from the video.

“Houdini” is based on a playful interpolation of Steve Miller Band’s 1982 hit “Abracadabra” and finds Eminem returning to his celeb-skewering Slim Shady roots. (Megan Thee Stallion and R. Kelly both are mentioned.) He also dissed his mentor Dr. Dre, his manager Paul Rosenberg, the CEO of Inerscope Jimmy Iovine and even went after his own kids, including Hailie Jade.

“Houdini” is the first single off of Eminem’s new album, called “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Right after the single dropped, Eminem’s team update his website withlimited edition pre-order with bonus track. It now reads: June 7, 2024, FOR ONE WEEK ONLY PRE-ORDER THE LIMITED EDITION DIGITAL ALBUM WITH AN EXCLUSIVE BONUS TRACK ONLY AVAILABLE ON EMINEM.COM
