New Song: Lyrical Lemonade & Eminem – “Doomsday Pt. 2”

“Doomsday Pt. 2” by Eminem from Cole Bennett and Lyrical Lemonade compilation album, All Is Yellow, is out now! The song is produced by Daniyel and John Nocito with the original “Role Model” production coming from Eminem, Luis Resto, Mel-Man and Dr. Dre.

In the song, Eminem makes fun of Benzino, who has been dissing Slim Shady in the last few years. “Now I got a riddle, one condition, you mustn’t laugh, what is the opposite of Benzino? A giraffe, “Go at his neck,” how the f–k is that? How can I go at somethin’ he doesn’t have?” Eminem raps in the song.

Eminem employs a riddle to draw a comparison between his old rival, Benzino, and a giraffe, an animal known for its distinctively long neck. This riddle cleverly references a moment back in 2010 when Eminem, during the filming of “Not Afraid” behind the scenes, was ironically asked what he feared, to which he humorously responded with “Giraffes.”

By posing the riddle and asserting that the opposite of Benzino is a giraffe, Eminem is essentially saying that Benzino is not, and has never been, a source of fear for him. This is reinforced by the punchline that Benzino has no neck—a playful exaggeration suggesting there’s nothing there for Eminem to attack, both literally and metaphorically.

The line “Go at his neck,” a common phrase in rap that typically means to verbally attack someone fiercely, is turned on its head with Eminem’s retort, “How can I go at somethin’ he doesn’t have.” Here, Eminem is not just making a physical joke at Benzino’s expense but also implying that Benzino is not a worthy opponent in a rap battle. The joke about Benzino’s lack of a neck is used to underscore the point that Eminem feels there’s nothing to attack because Benzino poses no real threat or challenge to him.

The giraffe metaphor serves a dual purpose: it recalls a personal joke from Eminem’s past, thus connecting it to his larger narrative, and it functions as a tool to diminish Benzino’s reputation in the rap community. Eminem’s use of this comparison to a giraffe, which is known for its long neck, to claim that Benzino has none, is a classic example of his complex lyricism and sharp wit. This is a testament to Eminem’s skill in integrating personal anecdotes, and humor and dissing his rivals within his music. (via Genius).

Em continues bashing Benzino and mentions his daughter Coi Leray: “Arm so short he can’t even touch his hands / When they’re up above his head doin’ jumpin’ jacks (Wow) / Sorry, I don’t mean (What?) to upset you, Ben’ (Yeah) / When I talk about (What?) all the debt you in (Uh) / I hear that you been (What?) creepin’ on the low / In them cheap hotels (Yeah), that they catch you in (What?) / Jesus Christ, dawg (Damn), when you said two-ten (What?) / Never guessed you meant (Damn) at the Red Roof Inn (Shit) / In a room with one single bed, two men (What?) / Shady, man, you can’t—, yes, you can / Well, I guess then I regret to inform you, hate to spoil the day (What?) / But this doesn’t bring me no joy to say (Huh?) / Guess that Coi Leray feat’s in the toilet, ayy?

Red Roof Inn is an American economy hotel chain in the United States with over 600 properties globally, primarily in the Midwest, Southern, and Eastern United States. Benzino has been reportedly kicked out of the hotel and allegedly sleeping with another man. Several rumours have been spread that Benzino is gay after he has reportedly “told the LGBTQ+ community to stop flirting with him.”

At the end of the verse, Eminem also shouts out J. Cole and Dr. Dre’s label Aftermath: “I’m back with Cole Bennett, And I been at the level J. Cole been at, It’s Aftermath that I ride for ’til I die.” Em has previously mentioned and praised J. Cole’s skills in the numerous interviews and Cole has named Eminem as one of his biggest influences. Even though there is much mutual respect between the two rappers, they have never released a song together.

Em also reminded everyone who had the best verse on Drake’s 2009 single, “Forever,” which also features Lil Wayne and Kanye West: “I’m not tryna be controversial, I’d rather, Talk about s–t with the purpose that matters, Like who had second best verse on “Forever”?” It’s popular consensus that Eminem laid the best verse on “Forever,”. Em is suggesting people to discuss who had the second best verse on a song, because you know who belongs the best title. Kanye West also previously revealed that when he first heard Em’s verse, it made him cancel appointments to rewrite his verse.

New Song: Read The PDF – “The Time”

Super producers Mr. Porter, Focus… and Dem Jointz have come together to form a brand new supergroup by the name of “Read The PDF.” The group’s name may sound odd, but it is made up of their initials and is descriptive of their informative music. Music with substance like Brooklyn-based duo Run The Jewels.

Last summer, the group released their first single called “By”, along with a music video on YouTube. We have reviewed the track, which you can check out on this link.

Read The PDF are now back with the brand new single “The Time,” from their upcoming project, titled “BY THE TIME YOU LOOK UP N.C. WHAT WE DOIN'”, and the graphical music video came with it.

“The Time’ is more than a song, it’s a journey. Join us on YouTube to watch the full video and don’t forget to subscribe!” Denaun Porter announced on Instagram yesterday.

In the song, Mr. Porter references Eminem and Paul Rosenberg while addressing music industry executive and entrepreneur, Lyor Cohen: “Get Lyor on the phone, maybe we shout sit with him / f–k it, I’ll call Rosenberg, he know how to get us Em’s (Ms).

New Song: Lazarus & Mr. Porter – “Scalpel”

Detroit rapper Lazarus drops new single titled “Scalpel,” produced by Detroit’s own super-producer Denaun Porter. The song showcases the art of lyricism bring it to new heights as Lazarus delivers multi-syllable rhymes and flow schemes with the sharpness of a surgical scalpel.

I recently had the opportunity to listen to an advanced copy of the latest single by Lazarus. I must say, I was really excited to see him collaborating with Mr. Porter Of D12 this time. This isn’t a duo I thought I’d ever see, but I’m always happy when different players in the game link up. You never know what might result in accidental magic.

There’s definitely no shortage of clever bars and tricky flows. Front to back the track aiming directly at barheads. Still, after countless listens, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t struggle to understand what this track’s actually about. There’s many obvious attempts to tie things together by working in a lot of lyrics that reference scalpels in some way. Some of it is actually really clever, but a lot of it feels just a little forced.  If you zoom out and look at the entire track, it comes off pretty unfocused lyrically. One minute, we’re referencing every trendy news story, next Lazarus just goes off on some vaguely braggy bars about himself.  On paper, the track is very impressive if we’re just talking about wordplay and how sharp his pen is. When you line-up the track against everything else already available in hip-hop though, it’s really tough to find a reason to choose this first.

The lyricism is 100% here, there’s no denying that. Unfortunately there’s some trade-offs. One of them would be a be a lack of a strong hook. Instead of capturing the main vibe, the chorus feels more like a commercial break that I wish had a skip button for. Lazarus just repeats the same 5, non rhyming words a few times over as we wait for next verse. The hook is just flat-out boring and forgettable. It’s especially weird coming from me, because I usually don’t care about hooks as long as the verses “wow” me for whatever reason. Heck, some of my all time favorite tracks don’t even have hooks. I’ll use this analogy: If a tooth is causing you pain, either fix the tooth or remove it. Give me a 3 minute track with back to back verses if you can’t give me a compelling hook.

Like the song title suggests, this is a sharp track designed for a specific task. “Scalpel” doesn’t present itself as a versatile cut designed to be the massive hit that captures every type of listener. At the end of the day, it’s a track I wouldn’t mind throwing into a larger playlist and hearing it it comes up once in a while. Otherwise, I’m likely not going to remember this track or find myself going out of my way to look for it in the future.

New Song: Juice WRLD, Eminem & benny blanco – “Lace It”

This was so unexpected! Out of nowhere, Juice WRLD and Eminem are teaming up once again! This time, Benny Blanco is also featured.

Till this day, “Godzilla,” from Eminem’s Music To Be Murdered By album was the only song the two had together.  Juice previously listed Em as one of his biggest influences and has frequently referenced his music, most notably on his May 2018 track, “Lean Wit Me.” In October 2018, Juice joined Tim Westwood TV, where he freestyled close to an hour over different Eminem beats.

“Godzilla” also serves as Juice WRLD’s first posthumous release since his passing on December 8, 2019—six days after his 21st birthday. Juice reportedly recorded the chorus for the track before his untimely death, although he was unable to complete his actual verse for the song in time. Later in January 2020, a picture surfaced on XXL that depicted Juice WRLD and his friends after he recorded the chorus.

“Lace It” is a collaboration with Eminem and Benny Blanco and is the first official single for Juice’s upcoming album The Party Never Ends. Juice WRLD and Eminem both reflect on substance abuse on the track.

The song’s existence was originally revealed on December 7, 2023, when the cover art to the single leaked online. Juice WRLD’s manager, Lil Bibby, responded to the cover art leak tweeting “Not real”.

On December 15, 2023, it was stated by a member of Juice WRLD’s team that a single was meant to have dropped that night but did not due to issues with benny blanco. Later that day, Lil Bibby posted the official cover art stating the song would be releasing tomorrow and proving the song’s existence despite originally calling it fake.

The song is now officially out! You can bump it below!

New Song: Nicki Minaj – “Beep Beep,” ft. 50 Cent

50 Cent and Nicki Minaj have connected for the first time ever on their new single, titled “Beep Beep.”

The track was featured on Nicki’s most recent album, titled Pink Friday 2, but without 50’s verse. The new version featuring 50 dropped on Monday is now available on streaming services. Last week, Nicki promised to release a new track every day this week until Friday.

“Next week #GagCity welcomes a new edition every day beginning Monday or Tuesday,” Nicki Minaj tweeted. “Every day until Friday, you’ll get an [additional] song that completes my fave body of work to date. 4 more songs.”

Pink Friday 2 stands at 22-tracks and the album features appearances from Lil Wayne, J. Cole, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Drake, and more. This is her first solo release since 2018’s Queen, and it’s already broken records. Chart Data notes the album’s estimated 41 million streams from the weekend has set the record for the biggest debut for a female Hip-Hop album in Spotify’s history.  HITS Daily Double projects a No. 1 Billboard 200 debut for the album with the sales of approximately 200,000 album equivalent units in its first week of release.

Marsha Ambrosius even flexes her rapping skills, spitting a few bars in the third verse: “This’ll be me saying, ‘What’s up?’/ Bossed up, bringing the pain before the glow up/ Done growed up, but I never changed, I am evolving/ Claim it, who the greatest? Mama, I made it.”

New Song: Ez Mil – “Realest,” ft. Eminem

Ez Mil has released his first single under Shady Records, titled “Realest,” featuring Eminem, produced by Ez Mil and Slim Shady himself, off DU4LI7Y: REDUX (Deluxe) album.

In the song, Eminem finally responds to Melle Mel, who recently claimed that Eminem is considered top 5 rapper of all time only because he is white:

“Guess I’ve really no right to complain much (Nah)
Hip-hop has been good to me, huh? (Well)
But when they say that I’m only top five
‘Cause I’m white, why would I be stunned? (Huh)
My skin color still workin’ against me (What?)
‘Cause second I should be to none (Ha)
Being white ain’t why they put me at five (Nope)
It’s why they can’t put me at one (Woo)”

“Shout to the Furious Five and Grandmaster Flash, but, boy (Whaddup, though?)
This someone who really is furious, stay out his path, his wrath, avoid
And I’ll be the last to toy with, this juice-head, his brain is like half destroyed
Like a meteor hit it
Well, there went Melle Mel, we lost his a– to ‘roids (Damn)”

Ez Mil also references Eminem twice in his second verse.

“I done got hit on the head, barely survived that shit (Okay)
Minus a nine from ten, Eminem‘s spot still sits
But f-ck a position, I’m tunin’ him in
Let all you rock out with it, I ain’t ever gonna be an opt-out mission
Get the Glock out with it, get to poppin’, dip out and smoke
With the homies we mobbin’, while I’m cleanin’ the stash of my calibers
Some of them might got ya’ name on ’em
Wanna brag about shit that could happen
I am the reason that they got a chain on ’em
When I rap, they consider me a Gatling
Fillin’ up mags, I’m finna go clapping
Get in that bag with a gold B rabbit, I know they hate this flow”

You can listen to the song below (It’s only available in the selected countries yet).

New Song: Nas – “Office Hours” ft. 50 Cent

Legendary Nas is back with his latest project, titled Magic 2 — the sequel to his 2021 release, Magic.

The 11-track album clocks in at 30 minutes and is executive produced by Hit-Boy and Nas himself, with 50 Cent and 21 Savage appearing on the tracks “Office Hours” and “One Mic, One Gun,” respectively.

Magic 2 picks up where 2022’s King’s Disease — its direct predecessor — left off, and hears Nas and Hit-Boy’s partnership at an elevated level. The rapper’s recent three-year run is a testament to his legacy and power, and Crown Heights, New York-born rapper has proven that he is one of the few that have aged like fine wine.

New Song: Read The PDF – “By”

Mr. Porter, Focus… and Dem Jointz have come together to form a brand new supergroup by the name of “Read The PDF.” The group’s name may sound odd, but it is made up of their initials and is descriptive of their informative music. Music with substance like Run The Jewels.

The group recently released their first single called “By” earlier this week on June 26th , along with a music video on YouTube.

The track opens up with an angelic vocal sample accompanied by a fittingly church choir-esque production. There’s even some subtle grand piano keys being mixed into the instrumental, but not as to bury the lead. Dem Jointz steps up first with a gritty intro and a verse. Heavy drums and hi-hats arrive moments later to help introduce Dem as well as remind the listener that they’re listening to a hip-hop track. His verse is designed to throw some shade towards posers who fake their way into fame. The verse also directs the same message to women who’ve been unfaithful to him through various situations and relationships. To put it simply, Dem is saying “Don’t talk the talk if you can’t walk the walk.”

After Dem’s verse, we take a little break via an interlude sung by Focus…. We dip back into that similar gospel sound we heard, just for a moment. We go straight back to laid back, bass-clap, boom-bap when Focus… brings out the bars. With 3 producers on the track, it’s not surprising how often the beat switches during and between verses. Focus…’s verse stays tight to the theme set by Dem’s verse. Focus… talks about the strong relationships he’s built with his closest friends. I get the impression that he’s been burned many times before, but he’s always able to brush it off as long as he maintains a small, trusted circle. The secondary message in his verse is about staying true to yourself. “I ain’t gotta hide the ME on me/ fortified cuz’ I ain’t ready to D-I-E… I do not benchwarm/ I am not J.V./ we will not stand by/ we the MVPs”

Once again, the beat switches as Denaun Porter opens up his own verse with harmonic intro. For some reason, the first bar is sung in reverse, then repeated the correct way 4 times. “T’nac tsuj I ,t’nac tsuj I ,t’nac tsuj I”.  Porter jumps in headfirst as the beat switches to a powerfully electrical buzzing instrumental. These are the sounds you’d hear if Thor, The God Of Thunder,  needed a beat for a diss track. I love Denaun’s super confident flow that snaps every time the beat pauses. The production fits the vocals like a glove the way the bars seemingly control the music. Making sure to stay cohesive with the rest of the track, Denaun pays tribute to a few trusted allies as well. “My big brother Em, my little brother Royce / Product of the Doc s–t, I ain’t got a choice”

I love the way he calls out other, lesser producers for sounding the same and still wind up stealing from each other. He even claims he has to rap on beats he created himself so artists he produces for know how to rap on them. Denaun sounds frustrated, but through a smile, so as not to sound too cynical. There’s some obvious exaggerations here, but I think he’s coming mostly from a place of truth. Man, it’s just so nice to hear Porter in this semi-serious, cheeky mood. It almost brings me back to the days of D12 when they’d bring their A-Game to the booth and still have fun doing it.

Overall, this is a really cool track. With the constantly changing but consistent sound, it’s anything but boring. Every artist tells their perspective on the main theme of the track well maintaining cohesiveness front to back. It comes off as a very braggadocious lead single for the group without sounding cocky or unlikable. In a rap game that’s arguably dying from lack of creativity, Read The PDF has formed a sonically pleasing supergroup to put a dent in quenching that craving.
