Shannon Sharpe sits down with the legendary Warren G, the West Coast icon who helped define the sound of 90’s hip hop and saved Def Jam from $20 million in debt with his timeless hit “Regulate.” In this unfiltered conversation, Warren opens up about his journey from Compton to global fame, the brotherhood behind the G-Funk era, and the lessons learned along the way.
At one point of the interview, the two talked about Eminem: “I have not got a chance to work with Eminem and 50 Cent. I would love to do a record with Em or 50, produce a track for either one of them. Just get around and play some tracks.” said Warren G.
Then he continued: “When we first heard Em, we were like, who is this white motherf–ker up in the studio? Cause this was our s–t. That mothef–er was busting! He was hard as f–k. He ended up being incredible. He’s definitely a top. One of heavy hitters. Definitely in the top 15.” said Warren G.
“Eminem is an MC, straight hip-hop. He was battling MC and could tell a story at the same time. The stuff he writes for Dre, I was like, this motherf–er right here, he can write this and then turn around and make us laugh. ‘The things ain’t the same for gangsters’, Eminem wrote that! That’s one of my favorite songs on that album. I was like, this mothef–ker is dope!’ That’s still one of my favorite songs to this day.” Warren G added.
