Ab-Soul stopped by for an episode of Sound Check on UPPROXX where he listened to some of his favorite songs and made some difficult decisions. Jeremy Hecht has to guess what his lifetime anthem is by the end of the show based on his music taste.
Soulo talks about Eminem being his first CD, Kendrick “playing the fool” in the studio, Lupe Fiasco being a mentor and listed his Top 5.
At one point, Ab-Soul was asked to choose between Eminem’s “Stan” and Lupe Fiasco’s “Kick, Push”, on which, he replied: “Sorry Lupe, I love you, but c’mon. Lupe is actually a mentor of mine too but, c’mon, Stan, c’mon. Eminem was the first CD that I bought. It’s interesting because I grew up in a record shop so I had everything but my mama always give me the clean version. So I kinda remember it was The Slim Shady LP or The Marshall Mathers LP that I bought but I know its Eminem. I snuck and bought the explicit eversion.”
“My Top 5 is steady. I got Jay-Z, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne and Lupe Fiasco. So, Eminem would be sixth for sure.” – Ab-Soul added.
