Ice Cube jokes about Dr. Dre’s absence when N.W.A accepts Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award

Yesterday, The Recording Academy (The Grammys) presented the Special Merit Awards to Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award honorees Laurie Anderson, the Clark Sisters, Gladys Knight, N.W.A, Donna Summer, and Tammy Wynette. During an acceptance speech of N.W.A, Dr. Dre was absent and Ice Cube could not stop himself to throw a little joke.

Dr. Dre was a notable omission from the group of N.W.A members who were present in Los Angeles on Saturday (Feb. 4, 2024) to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Grammys. However, Ice Cube explained the icon’s absence by cracking a little joke. “My man, Dr. Dre, is not here. He wanted to make sure I let you know he’s not hating. He a billionaire. He got sh-t to do…[Laughs] We would not be here without him. We are grateful for him and his brilliance and his talent. His leadership.” said Cube.

The award was received by Ice Cube, The DOC, MC Ren, DJ Yella, Lil Eazy E and Eazy-E’s mother Kathie Wright. The CEO of Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr. also revealed the message Dr. Dre sent him before the ceremony: “I did just get a text message from Dr. Dre and I wanna share it with y’all cause I think you’ll appreciate it. It’s very short. As expected. ‘I’m honored to receive this award with my N.W.A brothers. We’ve been together for a long time so I regret not being there and being able to celebrate with you all. This ceremony falls on my daughter’s birthday and as much as I want to be with you all and all the guys, I could not break her heart. And I definitely didn’t want anyone to think that I’m on some funny style sh–t.’ Thank you everybody. Thank you N.W.A.”

Snoop Dogg calls out Grammys for snubbing his entire career

Some of the biggest names in hip-hop have previously expressed that they do not care much about being recognized by the Grammys but some of them feel quit opposite. The latest hip-hop artist to speak out and express his frustrations is Snoop Dogg. Maybe the iconic rapper does not really care about it but he still raised an eyebrow on social media.

Snoop took to his Instagram to vent about the Recording Academy having never awarded him with a Gramophone throughout his impressive three decades career.

In the post, Uncle Snoop screenshotted a tweet that is listing the rappers with the most Grammy wins, which included JAY-Z and Kanye West with 24 each, Kendrick Lamar with 17 who has recently surpassed Eminem’s 15 wins and Pharrell with 13.

In the caption, Snoop Dogg reminded everyone that he has yet to join that winners list: “Snoop Dogg. 20 nominations. Zero wins,” he wrote along with a sarcastic emojis. You can check the post below:

Snoop Dogg has been nominated in several Grammys categories including Best Rap Song, Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. He has also earned two nods in the Album of the Year category thanks to his contributions to Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed album To Pimp a Butterfly and Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, while his Reincarnated LP was up for Best Reggae Album in 2014.

Meanwhile, his long-time friend and collaborator Dr. Dre, who is 7-time Grammy winner himself, was awarded with the Global Impact Award at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

Eminem snubbed by The Grammys or did he even submit his music?

Was Eminem snubbed by the Grammys? Yesterday, The Recording Academy revealed the nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards and Royce Da 5’9″ got the Best Rap Album nomination, which is up against Nas’ “Kings Disease” D’Smoke’s “Black Habits”, Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist’s “Alfredo” and Jay Electronica’s “A Written Testimony.”

As soon as the nominations were announced, Stans flood the internet, shaming the Grammys staff for snubbing Music To Be Murdered By in Best Rap Album category and “Godzilla,” featuring Juice WRLD in Best Rap Song or Best Rap Performance categories.

Eminem had No. 1 album in the United States this year. Music To Be Murdered By arrived in January as another surprise project, like Kamikaze album. The project shifted 280,000 total album equivalent units in its first week of release and debuted at No.1 on US Billboard 200, propelled by the chart topping single “Godzilla” featuring the late Juice WRLD and one of the biggest storytelling single in last decade, “Darkness.”

The Detroit legend became the first artist in history to have 10 consecutive albums land at No. 1, beating tied record with Kanye West and one of six artists to have released at least 10 No. 1 albums. Eminem was also one of the top streaming artist this year. Despite all this accolades, the Recording Academy did not find the album worthy of a nod, which was not missed by his Stans.

But the main question is… Did Eminem even send his music for submission? Slim Shady and the Grammys are not friends anymore and if Eminem didn’t send his music to the Grammys staff, then it’s logical why Music To Be Murdered By didn’t get any nomination.
