Kurupt says Dr. Dre gave 2Pac his heart by giving “California Love” beat

There was a rumor that Dr. Dre had so much special love for his “California Love” beat that he had the problem with giving it to 2Pac, but it seems they are all lies and the legendary producer from Compton never had an issue about it, according to Kurupt.

During his recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, Kurupt reflected on the Death Row era and he was asked about Dr. Dre and 2Pac’s mega hit single “California Love.”

“Dr. Dre been had that beat, he had that beat for a while,” he said. “He even told me once, ‘Kurupt you like this beat? Yeah, I’ma see how you sound on it.’ And thought this was gonna be my chance. And then 2Pac came home… and the way we do it at Death Row, is whosever turn it is, everybody contributes. So, you know: your project freezes, everyone contributes towards the project that’s at hand.”

Then the Dogg Pound rapper continues: “Dr. Dre was working on that record for a while before 2Pac came home,” Kurupt continued. “I looked at that beat like Dr. Dre’s heart. Like he had a plan for it, like he was trying to figure out, ‘What am I gonna do with this beat?’ ’cause it was so gruesome and bangin’, but it was fun. 2Pac came home. So when he gave him ‘California Love,’ I looked at it like Dr. Dre gave 2Pac his heart. ‘Cause I used to go in there when he was working on it, and that was his baby.”

Hitmaka names top 3 greatest producers after shading Hit-Boy

Hitmaka has recently sat down with Jim Jones on Hot 97 with Jim Jones to promote their upcoming “Back In My Prime” joint album.

When Ebro Darden triggered Hitmaka by using his and Hit-Boy’s names in the same sentence, the Chicago, Illinois-born producer was quick to respond: “I’m on the radio. Hit-Boy is not on the radio. I love Hit-Boy. Hit-Boy is a legend. He’s a legendary producer. He has been doing way longer than me. He’s a great guy but I’m the radio for the last four-fivee years.”

Following the interview, TMZ caught Hitmaka in the streets and he was still booming with confidence , naming Dr. Dre as hip hop’s best producer of all-time but adding, at the current moment, he is number one.

“Oh man, damn. Hip-hop producer for me, personally from my own personal taste, I’m from Chicago, so I gotta go with Kanye. Just on a bigger scale, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz. I’m younger guy and I always show love to the OGs. But as far as now, I’m number one [laughs].” he said.

Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg’s ‘The Wash’ film being turned into TV series

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s “The Wash” movie receives TV series reboot!

“It all comes out in ‘The Wash,’” DJ Pooh, the film’s writer and director, tweeted on Friday (March 3, 2023). The 53-year-old producer, who has recently stared in GTA Online: The Contract with Dr. Dre, promoted the forthcoming series on social media with a photo of an orange bucket and car freshener that both had The Wash logo stamped on them.

Few months ago, DJ Pooh posted a picture from original movie with the caption: “Mr Washington, Face & Slim – #TheWash. The Wash Series Coming Soon!” The release date for the television series is yet to be announced.

“The Wash” film was originally released back in 2001 and told the story of Sean (Dr. Dre) and Dee Loc (Snoop Dogg) working as car wash employees looking to make enough money so they can avoid being evicted. The film featured a star-studded cameos from Eminem, Xzibit, Ludacris, Shaquille O’Neal, Kurupt, George Wallace and DJ Pooh himself. A few of the movie’s actors contributed to its original soundtrack album along with Busta Rhymes, D12 and Bubba Sparxxx.

Though it is unclear if “The Wash” TV series will premiere in 2023, Snoop and Dre have recently confirmed that their joint album Missionary will be coming out this year. The mega project is set to be released this summer.

Eminem & Dr. Dre get writing credit on J. Cole’s song for “Creed III” soundtrack

Today, Creed III movie was premiered in the theaters. The 3rd part in the Creed series and the overall 9th installment in the Rocky franchise was accompanied by two soundtrack albums. One is titled Creed III: The Soundtrack, featuring original songs executive produced by J. Cole’s Dreamville, and Creed III: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, featuring an original score composed by Joseph Shirley. Both were released today, March 3, 2023.

The original soundtrack includes contributions from Dreamville artists, J. Cole, Bas, Cozz, Omen, Lute, Ari Lennox, JID, and EarthGang. In the song called “Adonis Interlude (The Montage),” Cole interpolates the lyrics and the beat of Dr. Dre‘s “The Watcher,” featuring Eminem, a song that was written by Slim Shady himself.

Eminem is the sole credited writer on “The Watcher” and sings on its hook. The D.O.C. has stated it was Eminem’s work, and the lyrics use typical tropes of Eminem’s writing in 1999 – the sarcastic tone and use of vowel modulation to form impossible rhymes. The beat is produced by Dr. Dre.

In the song, “Adonis Interlude (The Montage),” Cole kicks his verse with “Things ain’t the same for young Jermaine” just like Dre’s opening line on “The Watcher,”: “Things just ain’t the same for gangstas…” For that reason, Eminem and Dr. Dre are credited as writers of the song and Dre as a producer.

Dr. Dre joins Snoop Dogg on his Australian tour

The wait is over for Snoop Dogg fans. Kicking off in Perth at RAC Arena on 27 February 2023 today, Snoop will then head to Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena for two huge shows before performing two shows at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, a massive show at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre before wrapping up the tour with a brand new show in Adelaide on March 08, 2023.

The Californian Hip-Hop icon, who hasn’t performed in Australia since 2014 when he headlined the Big Day Out, will returns to the country shores for his ‘I WANNA THANK ME’ tour, which will see the West Coast rap legend celebrate the release of his 17th album ‘I Wanna Thank Me’, and documentary of the same name, released in 2019.

While the ‘I Wanna Thank Me’ documentary celebrates 25 years of Snoop Dogg – a career that has seen the Doggfather cement his undisputed influence on music with chart-topping, multi-platinum records, while also solidifying his importance as a cultural icon, actor and businessman – the upcoming Australian tour will be all about the music!

Special guest include D12 (Swifty McVay, Kuniva and Bizarre), Obie Trice, Tha Dogg Pound, and Irish crew Versatile. It was reported that Detroit’s own Obie Trice was denied entry into the country for misbehavior. As it seems, Dr. Dre will join Snoop on stage as a surprise guest as the legendary duo has just checked in Perth, Australia. In his Instagram post, Snoop wrote: “Life story.”

Comedian Bobby Lee talks meeting Dr. Dre & Eminem on “We Made You” video shoot

Comedian Bobby Lee has recently chatted with Joe Rogan Red Ban on Joe Rogan Experience where he talked about first time meeting Eminem and Dr. Dre.

“I did one of his music videos [We Made You]. I got a call saying ‘come down now cause they need you.’ I came down and I did three sketches. I played Sulu, then I played an Eskimo. He is nice. I had not met him before and I got to meet Dr. Dre which is great. He has huge black hand that takes my little hand it surrounds my hand and it’s so dry and perfect. [Everyone laughs]. And he is so gentle, like a giant gentle. He’s huge. He is a kind guy. I grew up on NWA. So it was great.” says Bobby Lee.

Back in 2009, Eminem released music video of “We Made You” from Relapse album which featured cameos from 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Oxen, Lisa Ann and Bobby Lee among others.

Couple of years ago, in an interview with Steve-O’s Wild Ride Bobby spoke on how he ended up on Eminem’s music video: “One time I was in a Korean restaurant with my girlfriend and this Korean guy comes up to me and he was like ‘hey dude, I like your comedy, I’m director, you wanna do music videos?!’ and I don’t know what it was but I gave my number. So a week later, that dude texted me: ‘tomorrow, music video, Eminem and Dr. Dre!’, I was like, WHAT?!”

“He gave me an address, I show up and next thing I know I’m in a f–kin van with Dr. Dre and Marshall, Eminem! And I’m doing one of their music videos. It’s called ‘We Made You.’ This guy was a f**king director of Eminem’s music video.” Bobby added.

Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Ice Cube send birthday wishes to Dr. Dre

Yesterday, the hip-hop world celebrated the birth of one of the most influential artists in the rap game. The living legend is described as none other than one and only Dr. Dre. Not only was Dre the first rap billionaire, but he was also an instrumental part in the creation of a new sub-genre of hip-hop, known as G-Funk.

The life and career of Dr. Dre have been able to make Rap and Hip-Hop what they are today. Without him, who knows where Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game and Kendrick Lamar would be today. From everyone at Southpawers, Happy Birthday, DRE. May you have many more successes-filled years.

An icon from Compton received birthday wishes from hip-hop community. Eminem, who rarely posts on social media, shared a throwback picture from 2022 Super Bowl Halftime show. In the caption, Em used a line from “What’s The Difference” single: “You better show some respect whenever the doc’s brought up.. happy bday @drdre.”

Busta Rhymes also shared a throwback picture with Dr. Dre from the studio session with the caption:  “Happy Born Day to the Good Doctor @drdre Thank you for everything you’ve given us King. Enjoy it to the fullest family. More Life King!!”

Another hip-hop and Hollywood icon Ice Cube also sent birthday wishes to Dre along with throwback picture: “Happy Birthday to the one and only ⁦@drdre” – he tweeted.

Dee Barnes slams Grammys for honoring Dr. Dre

American rapper and former Fox television personality Dee Barnes has slammed the Grammys for honoring legendary producer Dr. Dre at the 2023 Grammy Awards, after claiming that the Compton rapper abused her back in 1991.

During the exclusive interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Barnes talked about Grammys’s decision to award Dre with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. As Barnes revealed, iconic hip-hop artist assaulted her at a record release party in Hollywood back in January 1991 after she hosted one of the episodes of Pump It Up!

“Everybody wants to separate the art from the artist, and sometimes that’s just not possible. Most people without a knowledge of [Dr. Dre’s] history are going to say, ‘Oh, he must deserve that. He must be such a great person for them to put an award in his name.’ But they named this award after an abuser,. It wasn’t just a one or two-time thing; these are choices. The first time, it’s maybe a mistake. The second time, okay. The third time, it’s a choice. I’m not saying he is the same person now, though. I don’t know. I’m not around him anymore. I haven’t talked to him. But to name an award after someone with that type of history in the music industry, you might as well call it the ‘Ike Turner Award.'” – Barnes said.

Then she continues: “He said it himself in the documentary The Defiant Ones: I’m a ‘blemish’ on who he is as a man. Well, what do you do with a blemish? There’s a whole industry created—skincare lines and vitamins and rituals—to get rid of blemishes,” she continued. “And, in a sense, there’s a whole network to keep me hidden.”

50 Cent is working on new album with Dr. Dre & Eminem

50 Cent has recently covered Billboard magazine’s latest issue where the New York legend revealed that he’s working on new album with Dr. Dre and Eminem.

Fifty has recently partnered with WeTV to launch the investigative series Hip-Hop Homicides. Hosted by Van Lathan, the show examines the shocking deaths of rising stars in the genre like XXXTentacion and King Von. Fifty also inked a three-project partnership with Lusid Media for an unscripted crime series slated to debut later this year on Peacock. Additionally, he and Eminem are working on a TV adaptation of the latter’s 2002 semi-autobiographical film, 8 Mile.

As Billboard reports, 8 years after selling his radio income stream to Kobalt Music Group in 2015 (worth $6 million), Fif is now working on a studio album with Dr. Dre and Eminem has sent him new songs to collaborate on, and Nas has tapped him for a feature on his forthcoming King’s Disease 4 album. [Video of this part of the interview is not available yet]. And after a string of one-off shows and a subsequent international run last year, 50 is also planning to tour in the United States for the first time in 13 years. He is already set to perform at Las Vegas’ Lovers & Friends Festival in May, 2023.

In the interview, 50 Cent also praised Eminem: “Em’s not going to say the s–t the way I say it because it just is what it is. There’s his humble nature — he’d call me and ask to do him a favor and rap with him on a song. Like, “You know I am on your label, right? Yeah, whatever you need me to do.” He would always ask me, “Could you do me a favor? I always thought it would be dope if we did this together.” I’m like, “All right.”

50 Cent refers himself, Dr. Dre & Eminem “The 3 Headed Monster”

50 Cent has recently reflected on his relationship with his longtime friends and collaborators, Eminem and Dr. Dre, on Instagram to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of his classic debut album Get Rich Or Die Tryin’.  The iconic New York rapper shared a clip of all three of them doing an interview on MTV from the early 2000s, before the release of his album.

In the caption, Fif wrote: “When you have a team like this it is hard to lose. I am so blessed to have worked with the best ever. You can re-write a book, you can re -write a song but you can not re-write a history. The 3 headed monster EM, DRE and 50 cent. Boom!”

In the rare footage that 50 Cent shared on Instagram, Dr. Dre says: “50’s album, in my opinion, is going to compete with all the classic Hip-Hop records that have come out over the last 10 years — Illmatic, The Chronic, Ready to Die, The Marshall Mathers LP — it’s right up there. And that’s no bulls–t … It’s hot!.”

One of the most interesting things about the caption is the term “3 Headed Monster”. If you remember, “three headed monster” was a name Eminem, 50 Cent and Dr. Dre used to refer themselves to around the golden Shady/Aftermath/G-Unit era.

Dr. Dre shouts out Eminem at the 2023 Grammy Awards event

Ahead of the 2023 Grammy Awards, the Black Music Collective celebrates the organization’s mission of advancing Black music with a concert-style event honoring Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre, and Sylvia Rhone. Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes were among the performers at the show.

During his acceptance speech, Dre said: “My musical journey started with me wanting to find something that I could be good at simply so I could earn enough money to buy a decent pair of shoes just to be able to wear to school. I was in junior high school the first time I had ever heard hip-hop for the first time. I heard mixing and scratching, and I couldn’t get enough of that sound. And once I got my hands on the turntables, I knew I had found my wings and I was determined to learn how to fly.”

Then he continued: “I fell in love with the idea of manipulating sound and taking those different sounds and putting them together like a puzzle to make a song. I studied engineering for years and years and years, and from there I realized that I could take or hear a snippet of a sound and use that to create something entirely new. And then boom — I became a producer.”

The 7-time Grammy-winning producer also gave a shout out to his protegee, long-time collaborator and friend, Eminem, who is 15-times Grammy winner himself: “Eminem brought hip-hop to middle America and offered kids who looked like him the way to connect to it.”

Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” album is back on streaming

The solo debut album from legendary producer Dr. Dre, The Chronic returns to every streaming services after nearly a year away from its original distributor Interscope Records.

“I am thrilled to bring The Chronic home to its original distribution partner, Interscope Records,” Dr. Dre noted in a press release.

“Dr. Dre is without a doubt one of the most iconic and groundbreaking artists in the modern era. He has also used his platform to fuel some very impactful philanthropic efforts that will ensure his legacy is felt for generations to come. Dre’s solo career all started with the The Chronic, one of the most celebrated recordings of all time. To have this album at Interscope once again where we work with Dre and his amazing team at Aftermath day in and day out is incredibly gratifying for me personally and all of us at Interscope.” – said Steve Berman, vice chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M.

The Chronic was released back in December 15, 1992,  under Death Row Records/Interscope and it peaked at No. 3 on The US Billboard 200 and has spent 97 weeks on the chart since its release. The album also spawned three top 40 hits on the Hot 100, including top 10 records with “Nuthin’ But a “G” Thang” (No. 2) featuring Snoop Dogg. Rolling Stone placed The Chronic on its 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time List, noting the album “redefined the West Coast Hip Hop sound.”
