Jelly Roll speaks about Eminem influence

Ryan, Channing and Fred have recently visit Jelly Roll at his Tennessee farm for a conversation rooted in friendship and acceptance as Jelly shared a message of hope, redemption and healing just as the lyrics of his music resonate with so many, especially those facing hardship. The singer also talked about Eminem.

“What he knows now, cause I got to tell him this in person but I’m glad to tell the world too, is that his story inspired me from the beginning. I related him in my soul. A trailer park kid from Detroit that’s trying to find his way out through hip-hop, it immediately sat on my as a kid who grew up in and out apartments and trailer parks his whole life. And then he has kid named Hailie and then later in life I have a kid named Bailey and I didn’t name her Bailey, I was in jail, I didn’t get the vote. I love he name but I had nothing to do with it. I definitely had mother who struggled in my childhood. I just related all these elements like he was my voice.” said Jelly Roll.

Then he continued: “I’ve seen a meme one time, I think summed it up so good, they said ‘Eminem raised me through my childhood, Jelly Roll is getting me through my adulthood.’ That’s deep. That makes sense because that’s how I feel and I think that’s how Marshall felt. When we got to hang, he just immediately poured in my like ‘hey man, I love you, I went through this and this.’ He told me all about his struggles. How many times it took him to get clean. He was so vulnerable. He had changed my life before I met him. Now for him to turn around and put me on the record that ends up to be a platinum record is, he changed my life twice! He’s one of the few cases…I met a few heroes that let me down. I’ve had idols become rivals. I could not believe that ended up being a real thing but its true. He was the polar ops. It’s like ‘don’t meet your hero unless its Eminem.'”
