The former president of G-Unit Records and producer for 50 Cent, Sha Money XL, recently sat down with the Diverse Mentality podcast, where he talked about how the ‘Don’t Push Me’ record came together.
“Don’t Push Me was recorded in the smallest room. Em had two rooms. Now, I’m in Detroit, thinking this Eminem’s studios be like Dre’s big and polished. His studio was cold. I used to be hungry a lot. It was little ghetto man. And this other room that he had, the smaller room, oh s–t, it was like hooded studio but it had a good sound with boards and everything, so we cut that record in the other room while Em was probably mixing something here.” said Sha Money XL.
Then he continued: “And Banks was on that. And Banks cut his vocals that day and when Em heard that, Em fell in love with Banks after that record. And they ended up doing records together. Don’t Push Me was one of those records where Em was playing beats and we recorded that in Detroit. I never recorded that. Never went back to Queens with that. That was all in Detroit. Probably the only record we cut like that.
“Banks went in there. Then Fif and Em. We came back and walked in the room. Holy s–t! Banks went it. Everybody out of here! Record done! Two beats with Em. We were like ‘we got it! we done!’ That record was strong. Banks kept up with Em on that record. That’s where Em got his respect for Banks off of that record.” Sha Money XL added.
