Like they say, true to theme, the Detroit legend Eminem has a surprise in store for this Friday the 13th. Slim Shady has just announced that he will be releasing the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of his latest 12th solo studio album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” later this week, teasing the reloaded project with a trailer posted to his social media accounts.
In the clip announcing the new release, Em walks into a convenience store and pulls a carton of milk out of the refrigerator. Only, he drops it onto the ground, revealing a missing ad on the side of the box featuring his alter ego Slim Shady. As he exits the store, his longtime friend and tour DJ, The Alchemist hops out from behind the store counter and tells him to never come back.
It’s unclear what will end up on the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of the album, though one can surmise it will feature new tracks — perhaps produced by Alchemist. Fans are also expecting features from 50 Cent, Dr. Dre and Royce Da 5’9″, which was teased right before the release of The Death Of Slim Shady. It might also include the original album bonus tracks: DJ Premier-produced “Kyrie & Luka,” featuring 2 Chainz and “Like My S–t,” featuring FIFTEENAFTER.
“The Death of Slim Shady” marked the end of a chapter for Slim Shady, presented as a concept album that let his bawdy and crass alter ego out of the cage for one last hurrah. Shady has been a perennial figure in Eminem‘s music from the start, with his more salacious material attributed to his evil counterpart.
With Eminem releasing the expanded edition of The Death Of Slim Shady album and dropping physical copies on the same day, opening the MTV Video Music Awards a day before and dropping music video with LL Cool J, it all may boost the album sales so much that it might be back at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts next week.
