2024 Emmy Awards: Carson Daly says he wants to co-host TRL with Eminem

Television host, radio personality, producer, and television personality Carson Daly, who was a VJ on MTV’s Total Request Live (TRL) from 1998 to 2003 and a DJ for the Southern California-based radio station 106.7 KROQ-FM, was stopped by Billboard’s Tetris Kelly on the red carpet of the 2024 Emmy Awards. During the short conversation, Tetris asked the Santa Monica, California-born media legend if he had the chance to do TRL again, who he’d like to be his co-host.

“I have to say Marshall,” he said. “Because Em was there from the beginning and I saw him just the other night at the VMAs, I had been at the VMAs for years, I don’t think he’d been in a while and seeing him with all the Slim Shadys that really brought me back and we have great history and being such a fan of his beginning of the career, how it all happened at MTV, if I was to go back and do the show, it wouldn’t be right without having him there.”

Actor Mekhi Phifer, who played Future in Eminem’s 8 Mile movie, also talked about Slim Shady during his interview on the red carpet. “I worked with Eminem. When I worked with Eminem on 8 Mile, he was extremally serious and I appreciate that about him.”

Westside Boogie & GRIP thank Eminem for “Fuel” (Shady Edition)

WESTSIDE BOOGIE and GRIP are two names on Eminem‘s Shady Records that have shown their great lyrical abilities and they are on full display on “Fuel – Shady Edition” song from the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of Em’s “The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)” album. If you heard the original version of the song on the album, you would remember that Eminem and JID shared the song of the same name. Overall, it’s one of the biggest highlights, if not the biggest, from the project.

WESTSIDE BOOGIE and GRIP make the most of their time on this tweaked track, rapping with elite proficiency about being counted out but never out for the count. Of course, sticking to “Fuel” “tradition”, Em’s got more bars for Diddy. We are also messing with the slightly darker and more low-key production switch-up too. In the end, we need some more listens, but the “Shady Edition” is giving the original a run for its money.

After the release of the album, both artists thanked Eminem on social media. “WOW man I’m really on an @eminem album ..Thank u @shadyrecords ..S–t wild.” he said on Instagram. “Thanks @eminem Never woulda thought.” said GRIP on Instagram. Check their posts below:

Big Daddy Kane reacts to Eminem paying homage to him in LL Cool J’s “Murdergram Deux” video

“Murdergram Deux” marks LL Cool J and Eminem’s highly anticipated first collaboration and the fourth single from LL Cool J’s long-awaited upcoming album, The FORCE. With LL’s nostalgic bravado and Eminem’s signature speedy flow and subtle wordplay, the song sees the pair boasting about their raw “unapologetic” style and credibility in the rap game. The track – a sequel to LL’s original “Murdergram” – is produced by LL’s fellow Queens rap legend and former member of A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip, with additional production by Eminem. Tip also produced the entire new LL album.

LL Cool J and Eminem took fans back in time as they recreated some memorable moments for their “Murdergram Deux” music video, which was released on Wednesday (Sept. 11, 2024). LL and Em traveled to Detroit to pack on the nostalgia for the JakeTheShooter-directed clip. The New York legend steps back into 1987 to remake the Bigger and Deffer (BAD) album cover art nearly four decades later.

LL puts a modern twist on his “Going Back to Cali” visual while stepping into the black-and-white fishbowl scene with his signature bucket hat. But it’s Eminem who gets the emperor treatment as he pays homage to Big Daddy Kane ’s “Long Live the Kane” album cover. The pair also salutes Death Row’s legendary VIBE cover from 1996.

Big Daddy Kane responded to Eminem on Instagram post with the caption: “AYEEE!!! Thank you @eminem for the love. This new @llcoolj project is PHENOMENAL! All my drinkers, let’s talk about that Em line ‘Crack a bottle cause this is E&J, I’m talking Me & James.'” Rapper Grafh commented: “Crazy.” Tony Yayo and legendary Chuck D commented fire emojis. Jelly Roll & his team react to Eminem’s MTV VMAs performance

Eminem made his grand return to the MTV VMAs in dramatic fashion on September 11, 2024 as the night’s ceremony opener.

The show started with a quick-cut montage of people dressed up like the Detroit icon, a sea of Slim Shady clones in black crew neck T-shirts, white sneakers, dog tags, and blonde wigs. The video quickly burst into real life, as Eminem himself led the dupes through a door into the audience, and proceeded to rush the stage.

It was a reference to Marshall Mathers’ iconic performance at the 2000 VMAs, in which he led a battalion of Slim Shady clones in white T-shirts and blue jeans from the streets onto the stage. Toward the end of the first song in 2024 show’s medley, the Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) lead single “Houdini,” a spitting-image Slim Shady twin, dressed as if he’d walked back in time from the 2000 performance, joined him on stage.

The raucous energy of the ‘Houdini’ performance saw the likes of Taylor Swift and Camilla Cabello shoot to their feet and dance. But the mood grew somber and contemplative as “Houdini” transitioned into the next single from The Death of Slim Shady, “Somebody Save Me.”

Jelly Roll, who could not appear in person, was projected over the VMAs crowd onto a hanging black sphere that made him look, appropriately, like the man in moon. “Somebody save me from myself,” he sang, as Eminem paced the stage. “Me from myself. I’ve spent so long livin’ in hell.” The second half of Eminem’s opener saw him commanding the stage with the same confidence he’s always possessed, but with a new, more measured sense of security. He rapped to fans at the left and right flanks of the stage about his children, Hailie, Alaina, and Stevie.

Then actual home movies and photos began to play in a slideshow above the stage. As Jelly Roll began to croon the crescendo of the song, Eminem retired to an armchair placed next to the slideshow, as if stewing in his private feelings in a makeshift living room.

Jelly Roll watched the entire Eminem show with his teams and the reactions was shared to the public on social media. Jelly can be seeing watching the performance, saying “This is f–king crazy!” before reciting the lyrics of Eminem’s verse on “Somebody Save Me.” You can watch the entire video below:

Joyner Lucas’ mom sings along Eminem at 2024 MTV VMAs

Eminem recreated his iconic 2001 MTV VMAs performance in 2024 as the Detroit legend opened the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony with his new hit single “Houdini,” followed by “Somebody Save Me,” featuring Jelly Roll, from his latest 12th solo studio album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace). Just like he did in 2000, the Detroit legend led a massive crew of similarly-clad Eminems — complete with black tees and bleached hair — for a rendition of “Houdini,” which is a reference to his 2003 single “Without Me,” providing yet another meta callback to his earlier work.

Eminem also won two awards at the 2024 MTV VMAs: “Best Hip-Hop” and “Best Visual Effects” for “Houdini,” becoming the most decorated male artist in the history of the program.

Em’s performance comes a day before he released the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of his latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce),” which arrived today with bonus tracks and additional remix of “Fuel” with Westside Boogie and GRIP. A lot of people enjoyed Eminem’s show, including Taylor Swift, LL Cool J and Post Malone who gave a standing ovation to Slim Shady.

Joyner Lucas and his mother were also attending the show. Joyner posted a video of his mom singing along Jelly Roll’s part of “Somebody Save Me,” the third single from his The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace) album. You can watch the video below:

New Music Video: LL Cool J – “Murdergram Deux” ft. Eminem

Two iconic rappers have come together for a song. At the end of the August, LL Cool J finally released his collaboration with Eminem, “Murdergram Deux,” ahead of the release of his new album, titled The FORCE, which dropped last Friday.

“Unapologetic and we’re gonna cause a headache. Me and L about to set it, we about to murdergram it/Anyone of y’all can get it,” raps Eminem on the bridge before LL Cool J comes in: “So you might as well forget it/Either way you will regret it, cemetery’s where you’re headed.”

While this marks LL Cool J and Eminem’s first ever collaboration on a song together, they performed “Going Back To Cali” and “Rock The Bells” at the Rock Hall of Fame ceremony back in 2021. It turns out “Murdergram Deux” is the forth single of the album and the music video is out now.

“World premiere of the video. Tomorrow. PS. The Murdergram Deux F/ @Eminem video which premieres tomorrow; has a hidden plate of meatballs in it.” LL made the public service announcement just hours before the release of the video. You can watch it below and tell us if you find ‘hidden plate of meatballs.’

Eminem announces expanded edition of “The Death of Slim Shady”

Like they say, true to theme, the Detroit legend Eminem has a surprise in store for this Friday the 13th. Slim Shady has just announced that he will be releasing the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of his latest 12th solo studio album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” later this week, teasing the reloaded project with a trailer posted to his social media accounts.

In the clip announcing the new release, Em walks into a convenience store and pulls a carton of milk out of the refrigerator. Only, he drops it onto the ground, revealing a missing ad on the side of the box featuring his alter ego Slim Shady. As he exits the store, his longtime friend and tour DJ, The Alchemist hops out from behind the store counter and tells him to never come back.

It’s unclear what will end up on the Expanded Mourner’s Edition of the album, though one can surmise it will feature new tracks — perhaps produced by Alchemist. Fans are also expecting features from 50 Cent, Dr. Dre and Royce Da 5’9″, which was teased right before the release of The Death Of Slim Shady. It might also include the original album bonus tracks: DJ Premier-produced “Kyrie & Luka,” featuring 2 Chainz and “Like My S–t,” featuring FIFTEENAFTER.

“The Death of Slim Shady” marked the end of a chapter for Slim Shady, presented as a concept album that let his bawdy and crass alter ego out of the cage for one last hurrah. Shady has been a perennial figure in Eminem‘s music from the start, with his more salacious material attributed to his evil counterpart.

With Eminem releasing the expanded edition of The Death Of Slim Shady album and dropping physical copies on the same day, opening the MTV Video Music Awards a day before and dropping music video with LL Cool J, it all may boost the album sales so much that it might be back at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts next week. Check out the trailer of the expanded edition below:

Angry Nicki Minaj shows love to Eminem following NFL & JAY-Z snubbing Lil Wayne over Kendrick Lamar

Couple of days ago, Kendrick Lamar was announced as the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show headliner (Sunday, September 8, 2024), and part of the hip-hop world spoke up about Lil Wayne being overlooked with the 2025 big game being in his hometown of New Orleans.

Considering the year K. Dot has had with the massive success of his Drake diss track, “Not Like Us,” the decision wasn’t necessarily a surprising one. However, according to some hip-hop artists, Weezy should have been chosen to headline the show—especially since it’s in Wayne’s hometown.

Wayne’s longtime collaborator Nicki Minaj has also expressed her disappointment in NFL and lashed out on JAY-Z (who is adviser on selecting artists for major NFL performances) on X (formerly twitter. She also showed love to Eminem for not doing 2022 Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show without 50 Cent: “Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!!!! THE GOAT?!!!!!!!!!!! Nola what’s good?!!!!!! Eminem stood firm on having 50Cent come out. A white man. S–t sad. House NI-GER TINGZ. but it’s GOOD FI DEM!!!!!!! No loyalty ? Welp. then ni-gaz will keep son’ing you!!!!! #DTLR #GagCityDC LMFAOOOOOOOOOO GOODAZ FI DEL GAL U AH GOODAZ FI DEM.” she tweeted.

Nicki appreciates the fact that a white man (Eminem) is helping his black friend (50 Cent) but a black man (JAY-Z) is not doing the same for a black man (Lil Waye). As you might know, Eminem refused to perform at the 2022 Super Bowl without 50 Cent.

Then she continued in the next tweet: “And btw, you don’t know the half of what lil Wayne has done for me & others. Wayne had drake & I on his tour w/no papers signed. He was on all of my mixtapes w/no papers signed. This man has literally changed the FACE of hip hop. The hair too. IYKYK. He inspired so many to tat their faces & get locks. Inspired your faves to wanna be a great MC. he never was in this for the money. It’s always been for the love of music. #GagCityDC TONIGHT #DTLR.” Check the tweets below.

Flavor Flav and ICE-T give shout out to Eminem

With the MTV Video Music Awards just couple of days away, the details are finally falling into place. Detroit icon Eminem will have an opening performance and founding member of Public Enemy, legendary Flavor Flav will be one of the presenters for the program.

After MTV made announcement about Eminem, Flavor Flav showed love to him on social media, saying: “Eminem is my favorite rapper,,, and he’s opening the VMAs,!!! We STAN on Wednesday,!!” Check out the tweet below.

This is not the first time Flav gave Eminem a shout out. Roosevelt, New York-born hip-hop artist has previously crowned Slim Shady as “the best rapper alive” and “The GOAT of hip-hop.” Earlier this year, during the interview with DJ Whoo Kid on Shade 45 radio, Flav said: “Eminem is my favorite rapper. Word up. And not only that, he still shouts Flavor Flav out in his records. Yeah boy! You know what? Check this out. I don’t care how they trying to color my man it don’t stop him from being number one. That’s all I got to say. And being number one don’t have no color. Word up man. Yeah, Eminem man! he’s the best rapper alive right now man! Can’t nobody beat him out. When you can’t be beat, that means you are the best. Let me tell you something. Back in the day, when Eminem, Snoop, Dre, they had this group together and this is when the first time Eminem seen me and when he seen me, he went ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. I didn’t know who he was at that time. I gave him mad love man. He went crazy over me and I gave mad love. Lets say like this, because a lot of those guys [Redman, LL Cool , Nas] are like mentors to Em. But then Em is like a mentor to them too. It’s all a mutual respect thing. That’s one thing I could say about Eminem. He has mad, mad respect from all of the legends in the rap game but he’s a legend himself. For real.”

Another rap legend who recently gave shout out to Eminem is ICE-T. During one of his shows in early 2010s, Eminem wore the t-shirt that had printed back cover of Ice-T’s second studio album, POWER. Ice shared the picture on Twitter with the caption: “Yep, the legendary Back cover.. RESPECT to Eminem.” Like Flav, the respect between Em and Ice is mutual and the two have given lots of shout outs to each other over the years. Check out the tweet below:
