Lil Wayne‘s long-awaited Tha Carter VI album is officially here.
Tunechi’s sixth installment of his classic Tha Carter series of albums – which he kicked off in 2004 – Tha Carter VI arrives almost seven years after its predecessor. The album’s rollout remained rather lowkey, equipped with only one pre-release single, “The Days,” which premiered in an NBA Finals campaign less than 24 hours ago.
The tracklist spans 19 songs and comes complete with contributions from BigXThaPlug, Jay Jones, Jelly Roll, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Andrea Bocelli, Wyclef Jean, Mannie Fresh, Lil Novi, Machine Gun Kelly, Kodak Black and his son Kameron Carter.
Tha Carter VI marks the Weezy’s first longform solo release since the album’s prelude mixtape, Tha Fix Before Tha VI, which dropped in September of 2023. Wayne and 2 Chainz linked for their Welcome 2 Collegrove joint album in November of 2023.
In the song titled “Cotton Candy,” featuring 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne mentions Eminem with the following line: “Nosedive, then swim, baby / More white, girl, than Slim Shady.”
In the song called “Written History,” Wayne raps: “They know I’m the greatest of all time, n-gga / I’m like what MJ is to LeBron, n-gga / Brady in his prime, n-gga / I’m like Tom Brady at forty-five, n-gga / I ain’t even debatin’ on retirin’, n-gga / You could get the Shady forty-five, n-gga.”
