SZA covers “Lose Yourself,” Eminem reacts

Today (May 31, 2024), SZA took to social media to share a clip of herself singing Eminem’s magnum opus 2002 hit song from the 8 Mile soundtracks album, “Lose Yourself,” recorded on her mobile phone. The cover, backed by mellow piano keys and a bass guitar sees SZA singing the first verse, chorus and a portion of the song’s second verse before it cuts off.

Captioning the post, Top Dawg Entertainment singer and songwriter clarified that the cover was recorded to help her mental health, and will not be part of any upcoming projects: “U ever just cover Eminem on some tender s–t for feels? Not on a project Just for mental health.” she said.

Under the comments section of the post, Eminem commented “Flushed Face” emoji. Questlove also commented the double exclamation mark. MTV’s official page also replied with: “this healed me.” Camila Cabello also commented: “holy s–t.” Denaun Porter also responded: “Love it” with fire emojis.

The cover was uploaded onto SZA ‘s Instagram page about an hour before Eminem released his new single, ‘Houdini’. Packaged with an accompanying music video in which the Detroit legend recreated scenes from his 2002 music video ‘Without Me’, the clip also featured cameos from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Paul Rosenberg, Jimmy Iovine, Hailie Jade and more. ‘Houdini’ serves as the first single for the rapper’s upcoming album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’, which has yet to receive a release date but is expected to arrive sometime this Summer.
