Today, 27 years ago, Snoop Dogg released “Doggystyle”
On this day, exactly 27 years ago, Snoop Dogg released his debut album Doggystyle under Death Row Records and Interscope Records, executive produced by Dr. Dre and Suge Knight. Guest appearances include: The D.O.C., Nate Dogg, Warren G, Kurupt and more.
The album debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, selling 806,858 copies in its first week of release in the United States, which was the record for a debuting artist and the fastest-selling hip-hop album ever, by that time. The album has sold over 7 million copies to date in the United States and more than 11 million worldwide.
Doggystyle was included on various magazines’ Greatest Albums of All Time lists, including Rolling Stone and The Source. It earned recognition from many music critics as one of the most significant albums of the 1990s, as well as one of the most important hip-hop/rap albums ever released.
